I apologize for the long silences around the Tap-Repeatedly bonfire of late. We were never a multiple-article-a-day type of place, but over the past year or so it’s really slowed down, partly because we’ve had fewer contributors shouldering more of the workload, and partly because I haven’t been pulling my own weight. But despite how it may seem, I have no plans to call it a day.
It’s been quite a while since I posted anything on Tap but my good friend Joel Goodwin over at Electron Dance has just launched our new 15 episode local multiplayer video series ‘Side by Side‘. I say our, it’s more his because Joel has done all the hard work, I just hosted the sessions, giggled a lot, spoke with him about our experiences and fed him cheese and ham sandwiches.
Anyway, I’m incredibly happy with the first episode which covers Jan Willem Nijman’s fantastic TENNNES and very much starts the series as it means to go on. Side by Side has its own YouTube channel so feel free to subscribe, like, share and all that other social media jazz. If you know anyone who enjoys a spot of local multiplayer then point them our way: we’ve got lots in store.
You can watch the video after the jump, on Electron Dance or over on the Tube of You.
Sincere apologies for the lengthy outage over the past week, fellow Tappers. A whole bunch of problems happened at the same time, and we’re still working with our wonderful hosting service to identify exactly what’s going on and why. The site may be down again intermittently over the coming days, but hopefully this will be no more than a minor inconvenience. Some details of larger inconveniences below…
Zeke Iddon is a good friend of Tap-Repeatedly, and of gaming in general. He penned a hilarious Celebrity Guest Editorial (with equally hilarious video) on Tale of Tales’ Bientôt l’été – that’s Flemish for wander pointlessly on a beach – and now his long-running comedy gaming blog Iron Man Mode is coming to a close. To make sure it goes out in a fiery orange boom of screams and death, Zeke has declared that starting May 23, at 9:00pm GMT, he will-
You know, I better let him speak for himself. He speaks good.
Deep in the Tap-Repeatedly missile silo headquarters, it has come to our attention that kids these days use something called “social media” to communicate. Apparently “The Faces Book” is the most popular of all the social medias, and we are determined to be among the first to use it.
Tap-Repeatedly is a website, it has no face. It is made of electrons. Still, some form of Face is now in this Book, and you can… you can visit? Look at? The Face is available here. It is still under construction and stuff, but early adopters like us are always on the bleeding edge. Bear with the dust and what have you.
Once you’re at our Face you have the option to Thumb us, apparently a compliment among the youth, and leave pithy messages on our “wall,” which is like graffiti but less damaging to property. I guess. It’s digital? I’m not sure what that means.
UPDATE: The server work is complete and our path to world domination is clear. Thanks for the patience!
Speaking of big happenings in crowdsourcing, Schell Games’s Puzzle Clubhouse, an ambitious experiment in, well, most every way, really, has launched its first game. You should go play it. (Yes, those links go to the same place.)
Hello all, we seem to be having some kind of problem with the system that tests to see if you’re human when you post to the forums and comments. Either many of you have recently stopped being human or the technology has failed us (maybe it’s jealous that it’s not human, I don’t know). In any case, legions of eager Tap-Repeatedly interns are burrowing through miles of code even now to find and eliminate the problem. If you continue to have issues, please PM Steerpike or send him an email. Thanks!
UPDATE: the problem may or may not be fixed. Please stay tuned.
Humans and other sentient beings who visit Tap-Repeatedly: the site will be down for a few hours on Monday, February 20. We anticipate this outage will take place late afternoon/early evening GMT, which is like next Thursday or something in Australia and around 10:00am Eastern US. During the period of the outage, your lives may seem empty and/or meaningless. DO NOT DESPAIR. Not only will Tap be back in what will seem like an eternity to you but in actuality will only be a couple of hours, the benefit of this downtime will be things that none of you will ever notice but will stop people yelling at Steerpike. Thanks for your patience!
UPDATE: All is well and the site is back! We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
As you can see, we’re making some front- and back-end changes to Tap-Repeatedly, to better serve your repeated tapping needs. Visuals and functionality will be intermittent and weird on and off for the next few days. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, and we hope to continuously improve your Taperience. If you have any questions, please write them in English longhand on a standard 3×5″ card and place them in one of the many Tap-Repeatedly Suggestion Boxes our operatives have scattered liberally around all seven continents. Your business is important to us. If you have a history of impatience, do not use Tap-Repeatedly. Erections lasting longer than four hours can indicate a serious medical problem. A penny saved is a penny earned. Do not let the bed bugs bite.
Seriously, though, if you have any problems email steerpike@tap-repeatedly.com.
Fellow Tappers, how time flies! Turkeys do not fly. Like chickens and ostriches they are flightless birds. And they will be slaughtered, engorged with bread and spices, overcooked, and consumed en masse this Thursday, as Americans celebrate “Thanksgiving,” which when you think about it doesn’t make sense as a word. Before we continue, I feel compelled to announce that Steerpike – whoever that guy is – might take advantage of the slow week to make …
Apologies to all visitors who arrived at Casa de Tap only to find the doors barred in the past couple of weeks. Our host is experiencing an intermittent and mysterious problem, but promises to work it out. Downtimes should be transient. In the interim, if you see anything weird about the site, or it’s down for a long time, please don’t hesitate to email steerpike@tap-repeatedly.com. It’s probably his fault anyway.
RIFT seems to be doing well of late and it just goes to show that producing and releasing a polished product, especially within online universes, goes a long way in pleasing a prospective player base. It’s no surprise then, that Trion Worlds have today announced two new programs designed to give gamers a free taste of the popular MMOG. The first is a 7-day Free Trial which lets players experience the game for a full week at no cost, and …
As you may have noticed (or not, we’re still not sure what’s happening) Tap-Repeatedly is experiencing a crisis of aesthetics. Please be patient while we freak out over a private email thread and on the Staff forum. Regular transmissions will resume in the fullness of time. If you have a particular issue or concern, or if you have broken our site and would like to issue your demands, please email steerpike@tap-repeatedly.com. UPDATE: the problem may …
Today’s Important Announcement from the World of Fiction: a new book. My brother Marcus, as many of you know, is a successful novelist. Seriously. You can find his books in bookstores and everything.
