We are now officially three months into 2012. Just where is the time going? I don’t know. But if you’re anything like me, not enough of it is being spent on gaming.
Which brings us neatly to this month’s Log of Shame. The release calendar is starting to warm up nicely, and I suspect the arrival of a certain Mass Effect 3 might result in more than a few -1 scores for this month. Not for me, mind. I have a Vita launch to be catching up with, finally a golden opportunity to play and finish some of the games I bought rather than buying more. In theory, anyway. Let’s see if it works out that way.
As always, you can recap on the rules in the original Log of Shame post here, and leave your updated monthly and year to date tallies in the comments below.

Finished: Dear Esther. +1. Total: -2.
Bought: Mass Effect the Third. -1. Total: -3.
Sigh.
Acquired: The Sims 3 (And all of the expansion packs, but I ain’t gonna count them, that is simply too much 🙁 )
Completed: Wolfenstein, Saints Row 3 Gangstas in Space, Osmos
Score for March: -18
Okay, lemme see…I’m gonna start again given that my maths for last month were erroneous.
Acquired: Like 5 portable games, Dear Esther, Star Trek Online (again), Warhammer 40K Dawn of War: Soulstorm
Total: -8
Finished: Dear Esther
Total: +1
NET: -7
I seem to have acquired a PSP. And some games. Two of them I already owned in other formats (Final Fantasy Tactics, Megaman X) so they don’t count per Log of Shame Rules. The other two are Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts BBS. I’m surprised to find I actually kind of like Crisis Core? Huh.
My total is now -2, because I was at +1, but we also got Mass Effect 3 for a total of -3 points yesterday. But I can stay on top of this.
Acquired: nada, unless you count Realistic Female First Person Shooter
Finished: And Yet It Moves (and RFFPS)
+1 for March
I actually found Crisis Core oddly addicting despite recognizing its blatant hack-and-slashyness.
Games Acquired: 8
Games Completed: 1
Score for February: -7
Year to Date Score: -13
Minus 13 for the year. Ugh. Since I last did my update in February, I bought a bunch more Vita games, plus a couple of PSP games from PSN.
I did complete Uncharted on Vita though. Actually managed to do that in about 3 sessions over two days so I had a really quick turnaround there for an easy +1. Don’t anticipate many of my other acquisitions being that easy.
Feb score: -2
Games acquired since: Mass Effect 3, Journey, MLB The Show 2012
Games finished: Nada
Year-to-date score: -5
Damn you Log-of-Shame!
The Log isn’t messing about this month. He’s taking names and whooping ass.
Anyone got an axe?
Journey? Wait, what? Is that out!? Dear Lord… I mean, er, Dear Log, give me strength.
It is out a week early if you are a PS+ member
Journey! Shit! I’m not a PS+ member but god dammit, I was so happy with my score. Oh well, I can enjoy it until Tuesday. Unless Steam has something interesting on sale.
ALREADY ON THE BOOKS
Amnesia (almost…finished!) -1
Assassin’s Creed 2 (neglected) -1
Spacechem (too hard!) -1
ACQUIRED
Uncharted 2 (yaaay) +1
Modern Warfare 2 (still grinding thru the challenges) -1

Finished in March: Skyrim

The Operative: No One Lives Forever -1
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time -1
Finished:
Vessel +1
Grand total: -9
Gregg B, I really liked Sands of Time. The only negative criticism I have is that the combat sometimes gets a bit tedious. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
Good purchases, Gregg! No One Lives Forever is one of the funniest games ever made, and Sands of Time is… well, it’s Sands of Time. I hope it holds up well, age-wise. Enjoy!
I can’t tell if I’m happy having enjoyed NOLF over the last decade or so, or jealous in not being able to enjoy it for the first time now. Sands of Time is the only CD game I’ve ever broken over my knee. Such epic frustration over the controls in a game I’ve not seen since, not even with Dead Space’s molasses cam.
I agree, Helmut – not about the Sands of Time part, that’s blasphemy and you’re banished to the lower levels of the silo – about NOLF. I would love so much to get some of that writing again for the first time.
Those two villains talking about beer… for like ten minutes… “NO, lager is more of a blonde, crisp-” “I thought that was ale.” “For God’s sake, man, have you ever tasted beer?” etc etc etc
I wish I remembered more of the clever dialogue from NOLF. I do remember it was a quality title. Another one of those games you just wouldn’t see made today. The sequel was kinda crappy though IIRC.
Yeah, the sequel was hugely disappointing. They missed everything that had made the original NOLF great.
Bought: Journey -1
Bought: Defender’s Quest -1
Bought: Waking Mars -1
Completed: Journey +1
Completed: Mass Effect 3 +1
Score: DAMMIT -4
Good month (or weekend) for me!
Completed:
Jamestown +1
Bulletstorm +1
So very nearly completed:
Stacking
Score: -7
Of all the shooters I’ve ever played I think Jamestown is one my favourites because it’s simple, accessible and flexible without compromising on challenge. It’s also got a great set of mechanics; the vaunt system adds a lot of nuance to play, the different characters/ships really mix things up and the revive system in multiplayer keeps things ticking over nicely. We’ve managed to finish all the levels apart from the last one on Divine difficulty which we’re really chuffed with but the final boss is kicking our collective butts. Still we persist.
Bulletstorm I was a bit uncertain about at first but it grew on me a lot, which is strange because shooters usually work the other way round ie. they get more and more tedious as they draw closer to the finish. Anyway, I’ll post up some thoughts in the forum because I think enough has been said about it on the front page!
Make that -8, Atom Zombie Smasher is now mine, and for full price too– what’s gotten into me?
Where’s April already? I’m ready to go further in the negative.
April addendum:
Dark Souls is in the mail! -1
And darn GoG sale! Like I’m ever going to finish Freespace 2: -1
Total: -4
