Can I buy Far Cry 2, play it with cheats, and get a temporary African Safari fix for $4.99?

Hells, I can't buy a zebra burger for that!

I'm going to stick my fingers in my ea-.. eyes, and pretend I didn't read the words Far Cry 2. I have an allergy to them, you see. And to the internet at large that lauds such a broken, sadistic mess as a masterpiece.

Update: Atom Zombie Smasher, £1.70/$?.?? - I just concluded in grand failure my first campaign, with 4800 points to Zed's 6000. It was tremendous fun, with fantastic music and a great sense of humour. For an hour of strategic fiddling and absurdist weirdness, buy it before it ceases to be so flavoursome in its pricing!

Far Cry 2 is certainly no masterpiece--or even a good game--but I think it got a bad rep. Tussled with Steer.

Yes, Yap, if your safari is moving across the continent as the love child of Shiva and Pandora. Everything you do makes the conflicts worse. It's effectively atmospheric for a chunk of the world games never visit.

It's also kinda broken.

If you limit expectations it is well worth the five bucks. I do recommend the cheats in this case; it's a hard game by design made more difficult, or at least frustrating, by the pesky broken.

Yap, I liked Far Cry 2 but I used the river boats or the bus to travel. Try to stay off the roads because the roadblocks can be annoying.

Thanks, I'm convinced. Coffee & a snack in the airport would be more than $4.99 and besides, connections between the US and the African continent are terrible.

I have no expectation of playing a good or even medium at best game. Rather, I want to bypass air fare, travel time, jet lag and wander around a faux digital Africa looking *at* game.

Even a couple of hours spent in the bush with unlimited health and ammo should be worth $4.99. Assuming I stay off the roads and travel by river & bus. [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]

As an excercise in digital tourism for that little money, go for it =) I'd rather explore the islands of the original Far Cry myself, though - or be wandering Vvardenfel again.. *wakes up, and immediately hauls his stinking carcass into Nuevos Aires to Atom Smash some Zombies*

Far Cry 2 is a crime against gaming! It is an elephantine violation of the moral obligation to not suck to which all things should cleave!

That said, I hear tell some others enjoyed it. I suppose, for $4.99, I can look the other way. *shudder*

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

Free day for me today. I was teased by the GTA IV pack for a short while (as I've still not play either of the expansions and hear they both improve on the main game - particularly Gay Tony) but I've stayed strong and resisted.

New deals incoming, hoping for some decent deals after going 2 days without a purchase now. Gabe just isn't troubling my last £9.81 at the minute.

Hah, today I break. Gone for Audiosurf, Sanctum and Lara Croft. Steam wallet is down to £3.94. Unless there's some exceptional deals tomorrow, I'll have successfully stayed within budget.

Was going to buy Red Alert 3. I do like me some strategy games and I always enjoyed previous C&C games (particularly Red Alert 2) but.. something stopped me. Can anyone recommend it? Or support my decision not to buy it?

I haven't bought anything the last couple days, but I did get Tomb Raider: Anniversary today. I've never played a Tomb Raider game. I own the first two but only started the first one, never got far. I figure with better graphics, I might enjoy it.

I'm hoping a couple of games in my wish list drop further in price before I snap them up this weekend. At the current sale pricing, I'll drop another $40 if I get everything in the list (9-10 games).

Today, I'm tempted by the pricing for Guardian of Light, but I prefer playing it on the 360 while sitting in my comfy chair.

I'd be tempted by the latest Tomb Raider game too. For the graphics alone. Except, "platforming" is another word for jumping, right?

Not that jumping is bad, just that Yap can't do it. Or rather, I can jump (hit spacebar...^UP^), but if Lara is expected to move from spot A to spot B via jumping, she surely can't do it with my help. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Leetle bit Yap. Jump from A to B to C to D. Miss and fall. And fail.

Not a fan of platforming.

Your list and your devotion to games is amazing.   Me, not so much.   I have bought:

Morrowind GOTY -- although I played it,  I want to give it a spin again when I am "whatever"  about what I am playing.

Portal 2

The two addons for Fallout New Vegas.

I am not sure I am through.

I have been sorely tempted by the two Max Payne games which I haven't played and Steerpike wrote about Max Payne two as an  unappreciated game.

There are other things that are also tempting but I will leave it at that.

I picked up Chaos Theory today even though I have already played it. It was the best of the Splinter Cell games and had some stealth, which I like.

F1 2010 broke my budget. However, that was the game I was most hoping for from this sale, so I'm happy to make the allowance for that. Unless anything utterly incredible pops up tomorrow, I'm finished for the summer.

Total list is:

Audiosurf
BioShock 2
BIT.TRIP.RUNNER
F1 2010
Fallout: New Vegas
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto II
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Just Cause 2
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Lead and Gold
Magicka
Mass Effect
PAM
Sanctum
Shatter
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Budget: £40
Total: £46.79

I budgeted myself the cost of one retail PS3 game and ended up with 19 games, only going just under £7 over budget. From a purely cost point of view it feels pretty painful right now but.. that's alot of games and alot of game time for what I'd normally spend on a single game a month anyway (at least).

To date: ($37.00)

  • Drakensang: River of Time
  • Drakensang: Philistine's Secret (DLC for above)
  • Magicka
  • Children of the Nile Pack

I still have about 10 things sitting in my wishlist that I hope will appear in the re-cap tomorrow.
