It took me 16 hours to download a 5 gig game. I usually get about 90 KB/s, (722 kb/s) but I was often at 25 and sometimes at 10. I started my download at the worst time according to this chart, but it really improved late in the evening and I was getting in the high 80s. The game is running fine now, so I am happy.

Pokey, in which neighborhood did you find your daughter's apartment? I'm a block off Dolores Beach... er... Park (the locals call it the Beach because when the weather's good it's wall to wall people sunning themselves or picnicking in various stages of undress. I've seen things that simply cannot be unseen. Ever. [Image Can Not Be Found])

Toger, we found a nice place on the corner of Balboa and 34th St. People say that's a good area and it seems quiet and has parking. It was built in 1927 and is well maintained by an old Irish landlord, hard to understand at times but very pleasant. We felt lucky to find the place.

Is Delores Park the park we see in movies? The one with all the Victorians surrounding it? Looks like a nice area.

I see Drakensang 2 doesn't have a manual. Maybe I'll remember a bit from the first one.

Edit...I did find an online manual for the first game, so that will help.

Oh, way out in the Richmond. She'll get nice sea breezes on the rare hot days. The park you always see in the movies is Alamo which is not too far from the GG Park panhandle. Dolores Park is in the Mission about 6 blocks from Mission Dolores. The Mission usually has the best weather in the City due to Twin Peaks holding back the fog most days.

Picked up Magicka, today.

I also picked up Magicka. That's another game I've been wanting to buy so, great for it to be so cheap. The complete pack is cheap as well although from what I can gather most of the extra stuff there is costumes and whatnot, only Vietnam is an actual mission expansion? I figure I'll just pick up Vietnam at the non-sale price of £3 when I'm ready for it.

Also got BioShock 2 today. I was going to buy both of them, but I've only finished the second one compared to the.. oh, I dunno, 8 or 9 times I've played the first one. Want both in my collection anyway but figure the first one is going to keep cropping up in future sales anyway.

Still on target for my £40 budget, 3 days in.

Yeah, I only grabbed basic Magicka along with the Nippon and Wizard's Survival Kit DLC, even though the rockin' soundtrack for the Vietnam trailer was sorely tempting. But, it's magic and the Vietnam war... um... no, there was just something inherently wrong with that combination. I just. couldn't.

I just bought Bioshock 2. I was going to pass on it, but at $5 I couldn't resist. I'm sure to get that much fun out of it.

It'd be darn touchy to make a game out of it, but those Burmese twins covered that in the real world. http://www.time.com/time/world.....,00.html

I'd heartily recommend BioShock 2 to anyone at the price it's at now. The story isn't as interesting as the first one and Rapture loses some of it's intrigue upon a second visit, but the combat is generally better and you're getting a pretty solid 10 hour campaign for just afew bucks. If you go into it knowing you're not going to get the same level of awe and amazement as the first game then you can't go wrong, really.

Weakest day of the sale for me today. Abit too much of major publishers taking the piss, and I'm not a Transformers fan in particular.

Weighing up Tropico 3, which is another game I've been looking at for a while, even before I bought my PC, and £3.74 looks a good price. Is it any good?

I just bought Assassin's Creed II. I know it is a great game and even though I haven't played the first game yet, I thought I ought to get it now. The strategy guide was only 89 cents, so got that too. Also got Joe's Adventures, DLC to Mafia 2. I do love the Mafia franchise. I'm done now. Not going to look any more today at least.

Mat - Tropico 3 is a lovely game. Approach it as a very laid back management game. It doesn't lack for challenge but it's very slow, very peaceful, and absolutely beautiful to just watch flow. I'd love to see Children of the Nile on that engine.

I've heard some good things about Tropico 3, it has to be said. I've just given the demo a blast. It's OK, easily worth a £3.74 investment, but I think I'm going to leave it. Something tells me that with more than half of this sale still to go I'll need that cash for something else, and I'm determined not to go over my budget.

I suspect Tropico 3 may be mine in the Christmas sale.. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I put two (only…as all the others I might want, I already own [Image Can Not Be Found]) games on my wish list: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Fable III. Both have gone on daily specials but for more than an impulse price. I have plenty of future Steam sales for the prices to drop further (they are newish games after). I do know Fable III is crap but the art work/world is what appeals, not the game play.

My plan is to pretend the three Assassin's Creed games are a vast history-based MMO with just me playing. [Image Can Not Be Found]

In prep, I bought both AC 1&2 strategy guides (including HUGE fold-out maps) and will get Brotherhood's also.

In my MMO learning to jump and run (using a 360 game pad, for sure), not to mention killing, is the barrier to doing what I really want: exploration. Interestingly, I think I've been to all the (for-real) cities in real life…yes, even Damascus.

Jakkar, thanks for your description of Tropico 3. That and its expansion were bought on Steam sales two years ago (?), still untouched. Taught me to be not only frugal, but wise in how many & what I might play before another Steam sale rolls around.

I missed a day on Saturday because of my in-laws visiting. So far I've only bought Bioshock 2. Arma II: Combined Arms is sat in my basket and Tropico 3 seems tempting now Mat C and Jakkar have picqued my interest. I must be strong.

I think Yap, it was me and you fighting jostling for bottom place in last year's contest of shame. You beat me by a few dollars. I'm the same though, I can't justify buying anything unless it's going to get played by the time the next sale swings around.

It’s times like this I’m glad I’m a Mac user, because frankly every time I boot up Steam at the moment there’s an absolute pile of games I’d probably buy if I had a gaming PC, and I really can’t afford that.

That was Mat C last year. Mat: you're a changed man.

i must say i am loving the steam sale. althought am concerned for the long term future of steam if they continue with these low prices.

that said i have the full intention of buying far more games than i will ever manage to play and just because i look at them and think "well thats cheap".

however no steam sale can compete with the generosity of Armand in purchasing a 4 pack of boarderlands goty

for myself, gregg and Mike.

Gregg when your new computer has got round to downloading it you can join us to play. i still cannot understand why you can't tell a new pc to hurry up when down loading. sounds like dodgy building to me!.

Fallout New Vegas DLC is on sale today. Any recommendations for either Dead Money or Honest Hearts? I'm inclined to get HH, since it looks to have more outdoor environments and possible exploration.
