I picked up the latest 2 games in the Pendulo pack: Next Big Thing and... Twist of Fate (I think) when they were a daily deal. I meant to grab original Witcher for $2.49, but forgot (never mind the fact that I already own it in disc form [Image Can Not Be Found]). It may cycle back around during the sale.

By the way: If anyone is looking to pick up Book of Unwritten Tales (not on Steam), The Adventure Shop has it listed at 20% off; however, they're also offering a Facebook fans discount code (L5P2G1I41I) of 30% on any game which brings the price down to $16 and change. I've been wanting that one for a while, but didn't want to pay $30 for a digital-only version.

Skyrim is on steamsale today for 40.00 USD down from it's usual 60.00 USD so that's something at least.

Steam presented Saints Row 3 to me at a pretty measly 33% off (£22.50) so I did some digging elsewhere and found it for 50% off with pre-order bonuses and a season pass on all DLC over at the THQ site for £15. Bargain, so I snapped it up and registered it all on Steam. I think that might be everything that I'm willing to buy because there's little else I'm really wanting now on PC aside from DX:HR, but I can hang on for that while I play other stuff.

Zerodogg is threatening to buy me a game as a holiday gift but my computer is borked and I can't play much of anything. Trying to convince the goofball appreciate the offer and that he should instead buy something for his long suffering girlfriend.

Anyone else having sporadic connectivity problems with Steam this week? I haven't googled, but I'm trying to figure out if it's them or me. I suspect their servers might be pretty busy this time of year.

It'll be them, loads have people have been twittering about the connection errors, timeouts and general slowness. I was saying to Armand how the sale interface has been a pain in the ass for me this year because on the main store front there's just a series of thumbnails and no title to show what games they correspond to (a lot of games look very similar as thumbnails). To see what a game is you have to click on it so that it sends you through to a nice big image which takes a fair while to load for me. In some cases, where the discount is for an entire series, you have to click again to see a list of the games and their prices.

Scrolling through all those large images with my slow connection and Steam's connectivity issues has made browsing the sale pretty cumbersome this year. What happened to the store front being a convenient one stop where all the key info is right there and not buried beneath thumbnails and big scrolling images? The smaller scrolling bar (yesterday's deals) beneath the deals of the day is excellent because its economical, showing you pretty much everything you need to know at the click of a button.

I blew my wad last December on the Steam sale, enough so that I officially won the Tap Repeatedly contest of shame

I still am shamed because I probably installed maybe 20-25% of all the games I bought in 2011 [Image Can Not Be Found]

So this year I insisted on not going crazy, just picked up a few that were deeply discounted.  The only game I splurged on was L.A. Noire Complete at a price of $12 today.  So I feel good that my spending was well below budget this year.

I didn't buy much in the sale this year, just topped up my existing backlog with some key purchases of games I've wanted to play anyway.

I've been saying to myself for a while that I'm going to try not to buy any games between January and the summer sale. I bought way too much stuff in the Summer '11 sale and have close to 100 games installed on Steam now, the majority of which lay in my "Unplayed" or "Started" category. I laugh and joke about Steam sales and backlogs and "wheeeeey too many gaaaames!" but.. yeah.. that has to fucking stop and I need to play some of them. Especially as some of them are games I do actually REALLY want to play, and one of them is Skyrim. So for the time being and pending a possible collapse of my strength of character, I'm not buying anything until I've made some inroads into my Steam list.

In this sale I ended up buying Saints Row The Third, Assassins Creed II, Bastion, Sonic Generations, Hard Reset, Lego Batman and Psychonauts.  I've also got the Humble Indie Bundle 4 to chip away at (which released just before Christmas) and acquired X-Com: UFO Defense from trading an item with someone on NeoGAF. I also earned vouchers for 25% off a Valve title, 50% off GRiD, 50% off Strangers Wrath and 50% off Shadowgrounds through the Gift Pile thing, which I may or may not redeem. Pretty pleased with my purchases this year.. they're all things I've either wanted or been meaning to buy for ages.

SR3, Bastion, Psychonauts and X-COM get a big thumbs up from me Mat! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Let me know when you intend on taking a look at X-COM Mat, there are a few things you can install to make things a little easier for yourself (bug and balance fixes). It's an unflinchingly punishing game but man, 1994! It's still one of the most elegantly layered gaming experiences I've ever played (and I played it for the first time... what? six years ago, tops) everything just feeds into each other so well. Granted the interface is a clunky son of a bitch but other than that, it's aged remarkably well in my opinion.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is 66% off on Steam right now ($10.19) for anyone who hasn't noticed and was planning to buy it! I'm not sure if it's a weekend sale which may be ending soon ...

EDIT: Yeah just confirmed this was a weekend sale, so it's done at 10 AM PST today. 2.5 hours left, then. Get it while it's hot: http://store.steampowered.com/app/28050/

It's madness! SO many sales! Ack!! DXHR needs to stop being on sale. I keep telling myself I'm saving it for the consoles so I can couch my way through it.

Dammit, Steam! We have children/significant others/parents to feed! Do you care not for our plight? WELL?!

Forget that, Bulletstorm is only $9.99! Steam should open a fair trade window, one child/significant other/parent traded one-for-one with any game in the sale! That'd solve both your problems Xtal.

Let me know when you're wanting to start DXHR xtal because I'm yet to get hold of it. It'd be nice to play it alongside somebody.

The purchasing has begun. Bring out the log of shame.

I can't pass up some brilliant games and soundtracks to boot for $6. Ugh! Maybe I'll play them in 2026?

I know, I'm in the same boat. We've had good times these recent weekends! I almost took the plunge yesterday, but I held myself back. Maybe the price will go lower still...
