You were poisoned, Yap.
There is a one type of scorpion, the little orange ones, that injects poison when they hit you. You need the venom resistance medicine (the Doc gives you one or you can steal it off his shelf, can't remember which) or enough HP to wait it out or enough stimpacks to keep fighting the venom till it wears off. The killer wasps work the same way but much, much faster. You need to back away fast via the S key and keep shooting but don't let them get within striking range.
Finished up in Primm and made Slim Primm the sheriff. Couldn't get him to tell me about the submachine gun. I could have used it in Nipton when I ran into a bunch of dogs in the assembly building. The Legion is EVIL! I hope I can come back and wipe them out. Not much I can do here, so on to Novac. My brass knuckles are worn out, so I switched to the lead pipe—even more destructive. Later on, I got a submachine gun at the outpost.
One thing I'd forgotten - which is important - is that you can use parts from like items to repair your stuff without the need for outrageously expensive repair kits. Thus it behooves you to carry around a couple sets of brass knuckles if you use them, and you can repair in the field.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
I haven't been able to locate another set of brass knuckles, but I am holding these till I do so I can repair. I am in Novac and next to the workbench in the garage are all sorts of items that can be used to make repair kits. How much will my karma be damaged if I steal some of these? How does bad karma affect the game and where can I find what mine is?
There's at least one brass knuckle set in the prison the Powders took over. That's also where I got the pointy version, which brass knuckles will repair.
I killed all the Legion guys in Primm by liberal application of explosives and luck. Fearing my hard drive was filling with quest dust as half the game became unseeable I reloaded and let Wolfskirt stomp away. I'm a weenie and a quest whore. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Pokey, I can't remember if you're playing on PC or console. I don't know if New Vegas allows the same console commands as F3, but here's what you do in F3 to see your karma number:
Press the tilde key (~) then when a cursor shows up in the lower left hand corner of your screen, type in player.getav karma then hit the return key. Then when you are done viewing your "Savior of the Wastelands" karma rating, you just hit the tilde key again to exit the console. There is a space between the player.getav and the word karma.

I don't think karma is such a big deal in this game. Obsidian has odd ideas when it comes to punishing you for looting people who you just killed in self defense. As far as I can tell karma in this game is pretty meaningless. It is completely seperated from reputation which seems to be what actually affects gameplay. Reputation hinges on actions and quests and not looting. I finally just started ignoring karma. Not sure if it's broken or what but it seems to be meaningless. I say just loot away. I did sort of come up with a code of who to loot and who not to loot but the red font had nothing to do with it.
Thanks, Scout. I'll just loot away then. Spike, I did what you suggested and got 290. Problem is, I don't know what that means.
I have a problem with the Nightkin in the basement. I killed the jailer and got his key and opened every door. Lots of nice ingredients for the workbench and ED-E, but I can't find any more Nightkin. Are there any after the jailer? I must have missed one someplace, but I searched everywhere and the quest still says find Nightkin.
I couldn't find the brass knuckles in the prison the Powder Gangers took over.
In F3 the karma scale went from -1000 to +1000 with "0" being neutral, -1000 being the scum of the earth (or something like that) and 1000 being as good as you can get, an angel, in other words (can't recall if they called it messiah or savior, or some such). In F3 karma affected interactions with some characters - conversation threads and stuff like that. It could sometimes make a difference as to what choices you had available to you. But maybe as Scout says, karma isn't a big deal in this game. I won't know until I play it, and I think that is 4-6 months away. I wait for more patches and DLC with bated breath.

I seem to remember a couple of characters giving me odd remarks which might have been my karma but I never did see it quantified and like I said, I ignored it with no visible results. Maybe it affects Luck? I seem to remember reading somewhere that the reason the game gave you bad karma for looting foes was that apparently until the end is near there is often a mathematical possibility to change your reputation status with a faction and that would mean you were stealing instead of looting. Not sure if that is true or not though. Like I stole everything from the Doc at the beginning without any karma hits at all. Maybe the game wants you to load up early???? It's weird for sure and I may be totally wrong with my speculations.
Like with the Legion, there seems to be a certain set of dialogue checks and quest choices that finally make or break your reputation with them and that at that point I believe the karma system changes with regards to looting them. I actually ran a few quests for the Legion just because I wanted to get to talk to the big dog. There IS a major pivot point in the game that depends a lot on your reactions to the Legion. I think if you cozy up to them too much and raise your rep with them too high, it changes things drastically with the other factions. Also I did things with other factions that I was sure would damage my rep with them but found I was able to still deal with them as friends. Things just aren't black and white in this game. But over all reputation seems to be the indicator to watch. And my dealings with the Powder Gangers never did make sense. I tried to get on their good side just to see if I could do it but could never even get them to talk to me. I guess I really got them mad at me early on and I also think reputation with them is a buggy mess.
I started again a few days ago with another character in hardcore mode but haven's gotten too far yet. I'm interested in how playable the game will be with the drastically changed healing mode. In hardcore mode stimpacks don't instantly heal you which changes how you approach combat quite a bit. Ammo also has weight and you have to eat, sleep and drink or you lose health. I suspect it'll get old fast as it will limit how much combat I can undertake. Might just be a lot of running. Also you can't fast travel with low health if you will die before arriving at your destination, meaning I would have to run and find a place to heal up…ala System Shock 2 I guess. And of course companions die permanently. So much more sneaking and talking I'm thinking. And running…lots of running. And more reloading.
I am in Vegas on the Strip. I have talked to Mr House. I have as my companions Boone and E-DE.
Ir has taken me a long time to get here. Day by day I have to clean up this place: Goodspring, Primm, Novack and other stuff.
Now we move on.
I am still really enjoying this. Kasy
Imagine life with no hypothetical situations.
After Boulder City I detoured to the NCR Forlorn camp. During the running around to finish their radio code quest I stumbled over Dead Wind Cavern. Opened the door and four deathclaws charged. Blood smear. Tried again with Boone set to melee so he'd run ahead and annoy them while I chucked grenades into the mess. Success! Clearing the rest took a goodly number of stimpacks and one reload but wasn't too bad.
Until
Legendary
Deathclaw
Five attempts to kill him. No dice. Ah well, back to Novac for my big weapons. Annabelle, plasma rifle, and grenade rifle.
Ten attempts to kill him. No dice. He took five rockets in the face and was still at three quarter health.
Gave in and looked him up. Turns out he's the toughest monster in the game. (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/....._deathclaw) Oops. Not an appropriate foe for a level sixteen.
