Kay, sure. I just found it myself.

It is at Camp McCarran in one of the tents out front. It is one of the larger tents with several people inside and there are bunk beds over to the left. The sniper rifle is on the top bunk and is free to take.

I've heard that there is one or more in vault 34, near New Vegas, but this one at Camp McCarran is much easier to get.

There is a dandy sniper rifle in a deserted sniper's nest up above the Cove on the river near the south end of the map. That's all I'm gonna say. It's locked up tight though and you need 100 percent lockpick to get it so there is that to deal with.  I found my first one where Pokey mentions in the spoiler tags. Later I found a couple more around but couldn't say where really. I *think* I took one off a Legion guy but can't remember.

I'm doing some quests in outer Vegas – help Cranston, look for missing refugees, that sort of thing – then I'm heading back out to the wasteland to do a bounty or two and find one of those sniper rifles. My hunting rifle is nice, but it needs a little more stopping power.

It's funny, I complained about the Oblivion main quest because it was, like... "if I deviate from the main quest not only am I ignoring the instructions of Captain Picard, but the world will end." Here in New Vegas I feel like it makes perfect sense to avoid someone who shot me in the face.

Scout, you mentioned outfitting Boone, Veronica, and Cass. Does this mean you can have more than two allies? Is it based on Charisma or something? A perk? We're a jolly band, me and Veronica and ED-E. I'd like to add one more, though not that sourpuss Boone.

I have seen literally only a fraction of what Wild Wasteland actually adds to the game, but Scout, I can confirm that when you see the Fallout/Pip-Boy head looking swirly, with the "..." underneath it, and the weird music plays that it means something around you is cooky, or you're in the process of witnessing something added by the perk.

For an example of this, click to reveal the spoiler below. Note that if you like finding secrets for yourself then this would be a pretty deflating spoiler; but if you're purely curious then click on...

If you stroll out of Goodsprings in a general SE direction, following the road out to the I 15 (or 95? I forget), with the Wild Wasteland perk on you might happen to see a refrigerator lying at the side of the road. If you take a closer look you'll notice some human remains and a Suave Gambler Hat. That's the type of stuff that the perk adds. Probably a combination of bizarro-ness and pop culture mining.

I did see that very early in the game xtal. I guess I was expecting more stuff like the mysterious stranger perk. Something more obvious.  Doesn't matter, cause the game was pretty great. I kept hoping to stumble onto the Alien Blaster as I found it in Fallout 3 but never did see it. It's the weapon of choice against Deathclaws though there is hardly any ammo for it.

No, Steerpike, I kept all my companions in the Lucky 38 presidential suite and mixed and matched as the mood struck me. But I was never able to add two people to the party at the same time. I just happened to have lots of extra power armor lying around and once I got my repair high enough to use metal armor to repair power armor I experimented with handing them out. I did read that if you sent Veronica back to where you originally found her after a certain quest and then looked her up while you had a full party she would still agree to join. I tried it though and it didn't work. She wouldn't join if Boone or Cass was with me.  I imagine there is a mod for it  by now but I don't know. If there is it seems like it would be a game breaker. I would have loved a little more companion to companion interaction though like they did in Dragon Age.

Vault 3 is a wonderful place to restock. [Image Can Not Be Found]Tons of medpacks and other drugs plus bobbypins and once/if you start killing fiends near infinite magnums, 10mm guns and light armor. A few melee weapons to repair the unique golf club if you have that plus a scattering of flamers and shotguns and ammo for everything. There are a couple catches:

When you open the door there's a 65 speech check to go forward without the entire place becoming hostile. Once in as a friendly everything can be safely looted. Also, the Fiends are either broken or idiots. Set your companions to passive and kill everything from stealth. It won't aggro the other Fiends even if two feet away which makes the quests inside much easier.

There are two rooms at the bottom which can not be reached without a way to breathe underwater. Don't have that so no idea what loot is there.

My new absolutely must-have will never play Fallout without mod is: Inventory Sorter. Saving my sanity.

Creeping realization that I don't like post-Atomic Wastelands. Wandering ruins & rubble makes me sad. Every sight is depressing. Even with Fellout & Greener Grass (mods). I crave fireballs & swords. [Image Can Not Be Found]Robes & non-human (*not* inhumane [Image Can Not Be Found]) NPCs.

Two Worlds II is callllling meeeee so strongly from where it sits on my desk not 12 inches away.

Later today: I figured it out. Realized what is happening. I have been to the Wasteland. Same burned out, broken & brutal. Same washed out browns & dust. What's missing in the Fallout games is the smell of rotting garbage & burning rubber.

Not India. One of India's saving graces is brilliant, vibrant color on people, on buildings, on everything....even in the worst of circumstances.

Might be a front page article in my thoughts and experiences vs. Fallout. What's holding me back is my photos are 35mm. And no one needs to know.

Thank you Yap; that'll be my second mod.

I'd very much like to see the India compare/contrast. The visuals of Fallout games don't bother me in the sense I find them oppressive or even boring, so much as a taken so far they're a little silly. Everyone lives in shacks with trash on the floor--the same trash, natch. It is a game of many plungers (good) and few brooms (bad). The first thing people do given the smallest breather is decorate a little for their own psychic survival.

Waking up in Fallout and hearing rain, a rare random event, seeing a few hours or days of the transformative wildflowers, would be a great contrast. (One heck of a sloppy clause train there [Image Can Not Be Found]) Anyone who's seen the US desert after a rain knows what I mean.

Wasteland, the ur-Fallout, was far more colorful by necessity of technical limitations.

Thanks Pokey,  I now have a Sniper rifle.  I had been in that tent before.  Bad me that I don't look around enough.

Scout, thank for the idea of just gathering followers and keeping them someplace (like the suites I now have in the Tops and Lucky 38) and using them as needed.   I will consider that more.   Right now I feel happy with Boone and E2 but it would be smart to gather others.

Who knows.  I am not a very strategic game player.  I don't plan well.

If I like a game,  I just keep playing it.

Fink, as far as I know there is only one way to achieve underwater breathing in New Vegas. Follow the "Volare!" quest line (given by Boomers). This knowledge, plus a boatload of Rad-x/RadAway really would have helped in Vault 34.

Vault 22 was a great place to cure you of the Wasteland Sepia/Brown/Green/Yellow Blues; though must say, the Mojave wasteland looks a helluva lot prettier than the Capital wasteland.

Also: went back to Fallout 3 for the first time since I had finished it two years ago: what the hell were they thinking with the green text/HUD? It was impossible to read! I can probably blame FO3 for my seeing difficulties developed of late. The yellow interface, default in NV, is so much easier to look at (it is selectable in FO3, just not default... switch now if you're still playing that game!).

I've been doing Veronica's quest. Vault 22 was a surprise. I expected to have to fight my way through, but only had find my way after getting lost a lot. We gained a lot of power armor after she made her decision about BOS. At that point she had me worried when she said something like "I'll accompany you only in spirit" and then didn't follow, but when I fast traveled, she showed up. I talked to Mr House and then decided to go elsewhere and do some other quests, maybe the Thorn, as suggested since I don't want to do any vaults twice. I need to finish up Hidden Valley too. We've been able to kill several of the Deathclaws in the quarry. Maybe try Cass as a companion, since I haven't found any others I like.

I'm traveling with Veronica but haven't been able to activate her quest yet - any idea how to do it. Mostly I've been focusing on the New Vegas Bounties mod, killing people for money. It's a top-flight mod with voices and quite a bit of new content.

Can Weapon Repair Kits be used to repair armor? Silly question, but paying for armor repairs is crazy expensive and I never seem to find matching sets to do my own repairs.

Steerpike, she mentioned it while in Cottonwood Cove. We had been at Camp McCarran and Vault 3 before that. If you visit enough places, it should be triggered eventually. I didn't realize it at the time.

About Armor, what're you guys wearing? I'm still in Leather at 6 whateverit'scalled. I want the better NCR stuff but not ready to be marked as one of them.

There is a mod on Armand's list (I think?) that removes the factor-attribute. If I don't find something better than Leather I'm sorely tempted to mod (cheat) my way into better protection.

ED-E's dialog option E is always in the way when I want to open a door E. Boone just joined us. Two long ranged fighters may not be my best back-up…unless they are indestructible. Took me forever to those Red Zaps across my screen belonged to the robot. Way to go, Eddie!

I'm wearing reinforced leather at 10. I also wear NCR armor 10 and it is accepted just about everywhere. It is good because there are a lot of free pieces available to repair it. I have some better stuff stored in my chest.  Lately, I haven't worried about armor because Veronica and ED-E take care of about everything I face. I have a lot of power armor but can't wear it yet. Veronica can use it but I don't put it on her much.

I've been reading all your post daily.  The idea of companions isn't too appealing to me since I tend to be a loner sort.  I didn't use Fawkes at all, having left him in the Museum of History to watch the snake oil salesman presentation.  I thought he'd do well with the ghouls.  I lost Dogmeat early on and decided not to rez him.

From what you are all saying, the many companions in NV are not only good for fighting, they are also the ONLY way to trigger certain quests.  Am I reading you right?  If so, I'm a gonna have to learn to play well with others.

Wasteland DC vs. deserts:  I always choose cities/urban areas over wilderness and/or desert.  While it was sad to see DC in ruins because it's a city I'm at least a bit familiar with, I think I'd choose that over Las Vegas - a city I've never had any hankering to visit.  To each his own.

Keep posting.  I'm enjoying.

Spike, there shouldn't be any problem playing without companions. I played nearly all of FO3 by myself and enjoyed finding a way to get by the enemies. The companions make it a lot easier and sometimes I miss solving it by my lonesome, but you can dismiss them at any time or make them wait. They are handy wandering the wasteland since they take care of the critters. If you don't want ED-E, don't do his quest. I don't think he is necessary to another quest. Veronica is an easy ticket into Hidden Valley, but there are other ways to enter.

Like Pokey says, you can play without a companion. There are quests that require you have a certain companion with you. None of them are required to finish the game but all have some goodies for you at the end of them.  If you want to do every single quest possible, I guess you'll need to spend time with all the possible companions. If not then you can just go it solo though a few of the fights will be pretty tough.

One of the things I loved so much about this game was the Mojave. I love large empty spaces and especially some of the endless, barren vistas around Las Vegas so I really like the wilderness in this game. New Vegas itself is not really that big unless you scour the fringes outside of the wall which sort of doubles the square footage but is in many ways the grimest part of the game. Parts are pitch black grim. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I was doing the BOS quest to get holotapes and went through a hole in the fence to get near Black Mountain. Got the tape and then decided to check out that area. We wiped out the opposition on top of the mountain, freed Raul and that made Tabitha rush out of her locked room. We had to kill her and the Crazy, Crazy Crazy quest was done very quickly. I had tried going up the road before with no success. Also completed the crashed B-29 quest.

Later, I reloaded and spared Tabitha and her robot for a happier ending.

Time to suck it up and go to Vegas. Level 21 and still wandering the desert with Sputnik and Boone. Those pesky location markers are difficult to ignore. I should also travel on the roads which it only slowly dawned on me go to almost all the markers. It'd be nice to get the triggered speech (with plot and warnings!) for a location upon entering and not upon exiting and already completed.

I wore leather armor for a long time.  Then the spacesuit from Helios until I bought combat armor reinforced mark 2 from the traitor vendor in the big NCR camp. It was expensive and a deathclaw will still two hit kill but it's served me well.

Repairs are easy because I tagged it at the start and pushed the skill to 90 early for the Jury Rig perk. Repair any medium armor with any other, repair any pistol with any other pistol, etc. Amazingly useful. Only the unique chainsaw given to Boone has been a pain to keep topped off. The high repair skill also allows cheap manufacture of repair kits--have twenty and only used one.

Pushed to 96 repair (found two books after reaching 90), 90 science, 90 locking (tagged) picking so I could open/scavenge/do anything with magazines. I get lost if I can't finish x area; don't remember to go back later.

Then pushed speech to 75 and now dropping points into energy weapons (tagged). The other skills are pitiful. Low double digits.
