So much for the game being easy or feeling invulnerable. When I exit Brewer's Beer Bootlegging shack there are seven wasps at the door. Dead in seconds. This may be a game ender as my last non-quick save is real time days ago and it doesn't seem to be a survivable battle. Sleeping/waiting inside isn't making them go away.
[edit]Dropped difficulty, chugged every chem including Party Time--none of which I'd bothered using before--and burned the NCR radio summon the instant I opened the door. Only survived with a superstim, antivenom, and the Grim Reaper perk giving enough VAT to get a lucky crit on the last bug...on the fifth try after dropping the difficulty. Those wasps are unfriendly.
I'd thought the last moment win in L4D2 vs would be the most stressful gaming of the night. I was wrong.

Yeah, those wasps are the worst. Seven? Ouch. I just happened to have Boone and ED-E with me when I stumbled onto that shack and saw all those fast moving red dots. I hung back and manage to hunt down and knock most of them off with VATs from a distance but I when I exited the shack Boone was just gone though his marker showed him somewhere in that radioactive lake. I rested at a camp under a little ledge down the hill from the shack and he finally reappeared.
This was the first game in a long time where I kept forgetting to make regular saves. I can't count how many times I had to reload an hour or so back.
I'd always picked them off from a distance and wondered why you warned us about them. My near game ending mistake was quick saving when I entered the swarm and killed the first one, and the auto was the door. So it was the survive the swarm or go back twenty hours which I was unwilling to do to.
Christina Morales can mourn forever. Slooowly dragged her husband's corpse around forever and never did figure out how to get it to her. I. Hate. Camp. Massaman. That whole area. Trying to navigate all those walls with nothing helpful on the map is what so put me off entering Vegas. Tonight sucked it up and went to Freeside, mostly because
I wanted my uber zap gun--I weaponized Helios after cheating and looking at my options. feature=related

Well, I finally ventured into Vegas and met with Benny and Yes Man. I also broke the bank at Topps Casino (having a 9 Luck makes this surprisingly easy) so caps aren't a terrible problem for me any more. I haven't been to see Mr House yet... I think I'm going to wrap up this bounty I've got and then head across the river to see what this Caesar and his Legion are all about. All of a sudden everyone wants to talk to me.
You guys are still discussing places I've never been, but I sympathize with Fink on the wasps. Those things are deadly up close. You literally can't swallow antivenom fast enough.

The cazadores, right? Those and Deathclaws are the hardest shit to kill in this game. I don't remember Deathclaws being this murderous in Fallout 3, but that could be memory failure.
I'm glad super mutant behemoths didn't return for this one, though. They were tougher than surviving the first hour of Fallout 2.

Is there anything really expensive in the game? Got 50-60k caps and can self repair so knowing I could ignore loot would speed things up.
I'm starting to suspect the game isn't properly adjusting to my character being female. Is every man in Freeside gay? It's hard to tell which if any were intended so as the pronoun swaps are extremely inconsistent. Either Obsidian messed up or playing a female character can open a secret fag hag ending, the Glee season 2079 finale atop the Hoover Dam. I'm thinking a "More than a Feeling"/"Signed, Sealed, Delivered" medley would make a nice dance routine.
Got my

I'm feeling a bit poor with only 10K caps. I suppose I could sell some of the weapons and get more cash. I haven't seen too much to spend my caps on except ammo and armor repair. I finished up the BOS quests and got my power armor training. Also tried sniping deathclaws, but I think my gun skill is too low to damage them much. I've been to The Tops and have the chip and have a lot of places I need to visit.
I'm right there with Pokey. After I got thrown out of Topps for gambling too well I sulked out of Vegas and did another bounty, now I'm off to visit Caesar across the river. It's a long walk from Randall & Associates to Cottonwood Cove, though, and I keep getting sidetracked. Once I manage all that I hope to get Veronica's loyalty quest started, then we'll do some random exploring and assignments to clear out vaults. I'm not in the mood to meet Mr House yet.

Pokey, sometimes switching to Armor Piercing rounds helps. I took my beefed up first character to a location I had forgotten about, a cave full of Minelurks and got killed right away with that death ray thing they do... what? I'm invincible you stupid turtles! I switched to AP rounds on my sniper rifle and that did the trick. They were still tough to snipe for some reason. I even got to wondering if Obsidian had sneaked a Sniper Rifle nerf in lately without telling anyone. Ye Oldee Trustee Sniper Rifle seems not so powerful these days. I used to take out Deathclaws at the gravel pit from a 1/4 mile away. I'll have to test my theory later today.
Scout, I think you are right about using AP rounds. Seems that the deathclaws have armor. Must be their thick hide. I assumed the hollow point would do more damage and I did pretty well with them after I put another 15 points into guns. Cass is quite effective with her shotgun too. We downed about 5 in one go round. I'm going to try the AP rounds next. Heading out to see Caesar very soon.
Fink, the most expensive (and worthwhile) things I found to purchase were implants at the New Vegas Medical Clinic. Each one will run you somewhere from 8,000 to 12,000 caps, but once you're swimming in caps later on it's the best thing to spend them on. Become a wasteland JC Denton.
I also definitely noticed that a lot of NPCs will ignore your female character: I got a lot of "hey man" and "watch it, pal" through my travels. I know women do speak like this to each other but men usually don't call women "man" unless they're friendly; and I ain't friendly with nobody in the Mojave!
Most "major" or "important" NPCs though do address your sex correctly… so when it matters, ya know.
The first major benefit of role-playing a female in this game for me was the ease with which I seduced Benny; all I had to do to get rid of him was sleep with him; sure, no "real" woman would choose that horrible option, but hey, that's why it's called a "role playing" game!
I also had a go-round with Fisto, so I played a very unconventional woman, you see. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I've fallen behind and am likely to stay that way, since this evening I've got the IGDA chapter meeting when I should be gunning down bandits in the Vegas wasteland. Curses!
By Thorn quests do you mean the arena place? I couldn't get anything to work right down there. It was almost entirly broken on every playthrough.
Also, if you have "too many" caps, there is a doctor just outside New Vegas who will bost your stats for a steep price. That's where I burned off most my cash.
Armand, yes the Thorn quests were at the arena place. They were fun to do although hard to find. Are you playing on the PC? I haven't had any problem since the first few hours. I'm keeping the doctor in mind when I have too many caps. I better get my armor repaired first. It is more difficult finding armor to use in repair.
Man, so much to still do in the game. Maybe one of the more recent patches fixed this for me.
I've been so excited about Skyrim (have you seen pictures yet? It looks awesome!) that I've been on a Bethesda binge. Went from playing more NV, to Oblivion. Now downloading Morrowind mods and installed the game again, but not quite ready to jump in yet. Lot's of great looking mods though.
What to play!
