Xtal, I gave up at the fog door rather quickly but at least I wasn't invaded there. I did try the dungeon bonfire since I heard that that was the best place. I never saw any summon signs there and was constantly invaded. Then I tried the township bonfire. I never saw an sign there and the invasion was the worst. I think I may try Kalameet today. I did do some summons there and never saw any invaders, but that was before I defeated Artorias.
You shot Manus from outside the fog door? Am I reading that correctly? If so, that indeed sounds not fun. Manus is a fun boss, and typical for the DLC, i.e. very aggressive. And that fight actually provides a use for that crappy silver pendant.
Yes, that was a fun coop session, discounting my pathetic inability to leave the Painted World. Sorry I only had that half-finished mid-level character (deleted now, RIP). Almost all of mine are either very low level or over 100. I haven't come up with a mid-level build which appeals to me. I do have a SL 83 right now which I plan to level further. This one I really like. After all this time I'm finally realizing what weapons I enjoy the most (oh Iaito, my sweet), and building around that with variations on spell usage and such. I'm convinced that for new players, a Str/Dec type is the best, since it affords the ability to experiment with pretty much every weapon.

With the PC move I've more or less switched to the Prepare to Die edition, which is conveniently more or less exactly where I was on the PS3 one. This way I can capture video and screens, and use DSfix. But man, you weren't kidding when you said the online hasn't caught on on the PC. I'm high for Blighttown - SL 54 - but even so, it's maybe one summon every hour or so. I need Quelaag souls so I can clean out Mrs. Pyromancy!
Fortunately all that time waiting gives me plenty of opportunity to farm leeches.
Iaito? Humbug! Shotel fo life!

Even if you see a sign, successfully summoning someone is quite a feat. I hear there's a PC mod which allows friends to summon one another very easily. They both must have it installed.
I'll have to see what characters I have on PC. Maybe I can lend a hand. Despite how gorgeous it looks, PS3 is still my main platform for DkS so I don't have many characters built up.

Yeah, mine too. This whole move-the-PC-into-the-living-room project is one part learning experience, one part Steerpike Is A Giant Dork. I've been toying with building gaming/media center PC for this room, because I get home from work and don't feel like sitting in another office so my gaming has been suffering. Then it suddenly occurred to me that I could just try it out with my existing system. So far so good. I'm almost a convert. Almost!

I was just watching VaatiVidya's fifth installment of "10 things you didn't know about Dark Souls" and I have to say, there were a few things I actually never caught on to.
Here's the playlist of all 5 vids, hence 50 things we didn't know.
One of the neatest I didn't notice until the last video (and then I went to see for myself in the Duke's garden today) was that you can actually see Dusk and Sieglinde held inside the big upper crystal on the golden golems you free them from. Such an amazing touch that I can't believe I never noticed.
Also, I didn't know that button mashing actually worked to get you out of grabs (like from a mimic, or any other type I guess), but apparently it does.
We all knew about vagrants of course, but I'm not sure I knew there were 4 types.
Also: the sun thing in Anor Londo. I've never tried what he does, but I'm going to now!
Proudly, I came to the obvious conclusions of human- versus giant-sized things all over Anor Londo.
Binoculars / Crossbow trick is also pretty neat.
Curiously, I always thought the two things he mentions in the Valley of the Drakes were obvious.
I also didn't know you could exit the boss fog upon your first visit to Seath; tried it today, worked. So it's not off to prison for certain!
Reverse Drake is also really cool. And "dog/hamster wheel" is rofl-worthy.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
Every time something like this appears I'm further staggered by the level of detail in Dark Souls. Most of the time I'd call stuff like the ability to exit through the fog in Seath One a bug, but given that this developer actually took the time to create complete, detailed human models for characters you'll never see (you can peer into Siegmeyer's helmet and see his face too!), it seems more likely that Miyazaki & Co. are just that good. Which makes me really eager to find out what he's working on next. It also makes me wonder about the gulf between Demon's/Dark Souls and... most other From games. Steel Battalion this ain't.
I completely rewrote the second-to-last Diary entry before publishing it; the original draft spent a great deal of time talking about the size difference between characters. Ironically I changed it partly because there's a limit to even my use of profanity (and "oh FUCK ME" is the gentlest thing you'll come up with to say when you put two and two together on that subject), but mostly because I thought, "you know, you've gotten so much wrong, it might be best to leave out this one wild piece of speculation."
There but for the grace.

I've run into vagrants so rarely I forget they even exist. Once I was leisurely jogging through the Parish from the elevator shortcut on my way to visit Andre and got one-shot in the back by one who was standing about where you find the Fire Keeper Soul. Trolled by a vagrant!
