Yeah he's good; found him and that vageta guy both through ENB. I played a bit yesterday after a one-and-a-half week break. I decided to take one of my favourite characters up from 120 to 170.
[right here would be a moving gif of a very bold/happy looking person; and below my caption would read:]"That feeling when you level your character in Dark Souls from 120 to 121 and you know there's no going back."
Aside: In recent...times (I don't know if months is accurate...maybe a couple years) I've had things said to me by technically inept people such as my wife, her sisters, or other friends which go something like this: "Oh my god, have you seen that GIF of.. oh wait, have you heard of a GIF? It's like a moving picture taken from a video cli--" (<-- that's me cutting them off)
It's very funny to me how "GIF" has only recently entered the common vernacular slowly over the past couple years, and now especially in 2013 largely thanks to Buzzfeed ... when to us computer folk (uh oh, I'm an elitist!) it's been around as an image's file extension since what, Windows 95?
But what the hell, since we're talking about ridiculous internet things in general, here's my favourite (non-moving) GIF ever, made immediately after the silly theme of the Mass Effect 3 ending was discovered: here. Okay, I know the "yo dawg" guy is pretty old at this point...but I still love it.

If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
Has anyone (and by that I suppose I mean Xtal) been playing Dark Souls at all? I haven't in quite a while. Just felt the need to move on to some other games.
I've pretty much decided to do something I absolutely never do: preorder a game. Specifically Dark Souls 2 of course. I may live to regret it, but I want to be playing this game in the early stages, when people are still figuring out all the mysteries.
Rule #2: Double-tap
I haven't played it in quite a while. The last time was when I checked to see that the Hydra was going to show up in NG+ so I could play Artorias of the Abyss. I haven't done anything with it yet but have been thinking about starting it soon. I am nearing the end of Dishonored, which I love, and it may be next. I admit that I feel a bit nervous about it. Games that allow saves are so much easier, but that is what makes it special.
Not me, I want to lose as much of my already-limited skill as possible before Dark Souls 2 comes along. With luck I'll be just as bumbling as I was when I first started Dark Souls (something I'm convinced aided my enjoyment of/obsession with the game). On the other hand, I still might do the Dark Souls Prepare to Die-aries if I find time... mostly I want to go into the next one without confidence in my "skills." That sense of dread is important to the early stages.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
What a sassy bitch. Ban him, Steerpike.
To answer the question: no, sir. I have not played too recently. Probably a month ago, or slightly more? As usual, it's not because I've tired of the game (I haven't) or that I've made a conscious effort to move on (I haven't) ... I've just been trying to play some other stuff over the summer. I think about Dark Souls regularly; no lie: during moments of frustration playing other games (Read: Closure) I often envision myself inserting the Dark Souls blu-ray disc into my PS3 and it calms my spirit.
No kidding, always having Dark Souls there, and having the option to play it (even without having done so for a while) is maybe something like having one last cigarette in the pack that a smoker saves, just in case.
Whenever IGN talks about Dark Souls 2 I see smarmy comments (mostly of "fanboys" or trolls) saying this or that, the latest of which was pepople arguing over whether DKS2 was being primarily developed for the PC, or if all 3 systems were being developed in parallel, or if the PC version will be a port ... and it makes me yearn, just a bit, to be part of the Demon's Souls community in 2009. Because what we know is that 100% of Demon's Souls players were all together, on the same servers. Isn't that thought...inviting? Hooray for inclusiveness and diversity and all, but a selfish part of me wishes that Souls series remained exclusive to PS3 (or just one system, doesn't matter) so that there would be only one community. Does that thought make sense?
But I agree, Botch, I definitely want to be there in the formative days of Dark Souls 2, even if it can't be truly as pioneering as the first game, or even less so as Demon's was. Nonetheless ... I look forward to some truly wonderful times. I hope summoning is simplified so we can hop into Steerpike's world just as effortlessly as he puts notches on his death card.

ZING!
No ban for you, Botch, tempting though it is. First: I don't know how. Second: it'll be a much worse punishment for you to fester and stew in guilt over that remark for the REST OF YOUR DAYS.
I'm sure I've said this at least once before in this thread, but my biggest... what's the word... my biggest "sadness" with the upcoming Dark Souls 2 is that even though all the content will be totally new, the experience won't be new in the way Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were. I am old hat even if I bumble through them, and nothing will let me experience it quite the same way for the first time again. Gregg and I have discussed this issue at length when we talk about STALKER.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
I started Artorias of the Abyss and see it will take a while to get back into it. I got killed near the crystal golems when I didn't watch the Hydra. My problem now is that I can't seem to use the estus flask from the quick menu. The flask is showing and I hit the X (PS3) but nothing happens. I can use it from the inventory. I have forgotten so much.

Oops, found the answer.....square not the X.
Pokey, use the square button!
Steerpike, my (unreasonable?) hope is that Dark Souls 2 will be new and fresh enough to capture the thrill of the unknown again, at least partially. I felt it with Dark Souls. Granted, I played Demon's Souls much less and am not nearly as familiar with its mysteries. So going into Dark Souls felt different enough to make me feel uneasy and not like a veteran at the time.
Yeah, I admit it can never be quite the same. I'm still surprised at how powerfully Dark Souls consumed me. So much so that I don't even remember much about my time with Demon's Souls. I really only finished it once, and never played coop.
Rule #2: Double-tap
I am finally in the Sanctuary Garden after many deaths to the Hydra and crystal golems. It was great practice though, since I can now circle around the golems and attack without taking any damage. There was only one boar in the archives, which surprised me. Exiting the garden was quite a shock. I lasted about 5 seconds. The lightning halbard was a bad choice. I am going back in with my uchigatana and pyromancy. This may take a while. I wonder if I can summon help.
Later....one the third try I had him down to a tiny sliver of health and had cut off his tail, but died. Since then I haven't done too well. Will try to summon someone tonight.
"Quite a shock." Ha ha, I see what you did there.
I've always liked that Sanctuary Guardian fight. It's a great way to work on your timing and recognizing the AI "tells". That last skill is something I'm terrible at. Some people see into the AI, so to speak, and can always tell what it's going to do (and game its weaknesses). I just don't see it.
A Silver Knight shield helps too, if you can tolerate the weight.
I've had success summoning (and being summoned) at a wide range of levels for that fight. But I think the typical range is about 60-70.
Rule #2: Double-tap
Steerpike, I've been watching a lot of videos and absorbing all knowledge coming out about Dks2 since E3, and the consensus has, largely, been that most of the changes noted by everyone who got their hands on the playable demo is that the game is not simplified, many of the common exploits of the first game (cheap backstabs, insta-healing, circle-strafing around enemies and generally abusing the AI) have been addressed in ways that essentially bring balance and higher difficulty.
That's right: the general sentiment has been that Dark Souls 2 could be harder, not simplified as was feared early on. Obviously factoring into that is it's new to everyone, so that naturally removes the comfort level of even the most seasoned players. Still, things are looking promising more than worrisome.
The only change I've heard that I'm not in favour of is bonfire warping from the start of the game. Of course, I could change my mind depending upon learning the reasons behind the decision. Could the game be even more non-linear, not having any roadblocks like the bells of awakening, Sen's and Anor Londo? Who knows, but I'm excited to find out. I will probably take a couple days off work once I find out the release date; this will be best for my health and sanity.
