Hahaha, no it isn't but it could have been! I saw it on Steam and thought it was the perfect representation of Dark Souls.

I'm currently playing FORCED, Guns of Icarus Online and Miasmata which is both relaxing and utterly terrifying all at the same time. I know a game's intense when I leave a fresh cup of tea to go cold right beside me. It's really quite special though and unique. Currently selling for £3 or £4 on Steam and well worth a look if you're into slow exploration and a kind of subtle creeping horror. It's beautiful too.

I am proud to say that that particular skeleton never kicked me off the ledge so decisively.  Not saying I never died there thought.  But yeah, not a bad Dark Souls summation.  Priceless.

I dabbled a bit in Gone Home.  I'm kind of fascinated by how it was able to engage me without any actual gameplay.

Dark Souls is (well, as of yesterday..maybe the sale's over though) even cheaper on Xbox Live right now: $4.99.

Just think about that for a second. Think of the VALUE.

That's averages out to something like...one cent for every fifteen hours of joy and despair (but wonderful despair)!

I played the Diablo 3 demo on PS3, and actually really liked it.  I had no interest in this game when it first came out, and the fact that Blizzard seems to have really upped the sleaze factor lately didn't help.  Obviously the real money auction house was a disaster.  Also, I thought I had lost interest in the loot hunt style of action RPG in general.  But I found myself quite enjoying the game.

I love the art style, with its hand-painted look and earthy, muted colors.  The combat is actually pretty fun too.  I only tried the Barbarian, and every one of his attacks - even the standard one - feel weighty and solid.  I actually thought it used rumble until I realized it was just the satisfying thunk in my headphones. (Side note: rumble really adds to the experience for me, and one thing that is really lacking in PC gaming)

This type of game seems perfectly suited to consoles, and I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much just clicking a mouse everywhere.  There was an excellent action RPG during the Xbox/PS2 generation called Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance which proved that these games didn't require a bunch of key mappings to work.  Admittedly it takes longer to switch out skills and such than I'm guessing it would on PC.

Speaking of skills, I like what they're doing with the steady progression of unlocked skills, with several modifiers (Runes?) for each.  The Souls games have sort of wearied me on the wall-o-skills type of game design.  Give me a basic, yet deep and rock solid combat system and I'm good.  But these skills didn't seem overwhelming, perhaps since they dole them out gradually at first.  Also, you don't actually have to choose as in a tree and wonder if you made the right choice since they all unlock eventually, by level.

Since the console versions lack the RMAH, I was spared that particular mess.  And by many accounts the console versions are superior for it.  I don't know if the fun would hold me for a whole game, but I certainly like what I experienced in the demo (which is surprisingly long).

Oh, I played far too much of the Dark Alliance games (and even the Everquest-branded one, Champions of Norrath, despite having never ever ever played an Everquest game before or since).  Those were good stuff.  I think I tend to like such games a bit better on consoles when I really think on it, because my experiences with games like that and similar titles like the X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games tend to stick out in my brain a bit more than my time with, say, Torchlight.

Though Diablo II will probably always have a special place in my heart.

I almost forgot about Champions of Norrath!  (It also had a sequel I believe which I never played).  That was a fun one too, although at the time I remember sneering slightly at how much more simplistic both Norrath and Dark Alliance were compared to Diablo.  PC master race dontcha know.  I tried X-Men Legends but never really liked it.  But that was more due to my dislike of comic book stuff than anything.

I only played a demo of Torchlight.  It didn't really click (no pun intended) with me for some reason.  There's definitely something to the console thing.  Dix, I spent a ridiculous number of hours with Diablo II but oddly enough I don't really see that happening again if it requires KB/M.  I'm at this odd crossroads between console and PC gaming, with the PC clearly in my future, but with a console flavoring (read: gamepad) that I doubt I'll ever ditch.

Yes, part of the appeal of Marvel's ARPGs is definitely the high amount of comic referential content.  I think they're still pretty good, but obviously if you aren't at least receptive to mainstream comics and such then they've got a little ground to make up.  I keep waiting for Ultimate Alliance 3, though it doesn't seem like it'll happen.

One unfortunate thing, for console players of Diablo 3, is that the Reaper of Souls expansion doesn't appear to have a release date. So it will probably come many months later or perhaps not at all (it is coming to PS4 though).

This expansion basically makes the base game suck less, so it's a paid expansion of what the game could have been at launch - but at least they've made these corrections such as no more auction house. I don't think I'd invest in it though; I didn't get a lot of mileage out of D3. Especially compared to D2 which I've possibly spent as much time playing in my life as I have breathing. I hunted for that Xbox Baldur's Gate game for so long but could never get a copy. I had X-Men Legends but had to play it alone for the most part, which was not fun.

I distinctly remember both Dark Alliance games never losing much of their resale value.  Perhaps it outsold expectations and the publisher didn't do subsequent print runs.  Sadly, I traded in my copy of the first one and never played the second.  I wouldn't be surprised if copies go for more than the release date price now (a quick Amazon search bears me out on this).

All of which reminds me that both Champions of Norrath and Dark Alliance were developed by Snowblind, who I suppose doesn't exist as such anymore.

Kinda figured out how to play FTL and what it's all about - quite an enjoayble little game!  Just achieved my first two milestones this morning, and looking forward to seeing what spaceship I've unlocked and they can do!

I finished Bioshock 2 and Minerva's Den. The DLC was very good with an ending that was quite affecting. Bioshock2 was good except for the end when they threw everything but the kitchen sink at you to see if you could survive.  I'll probably play Bioshock Infinite sometime, but I need a break to play some other games.

On the first day of Christmas, Purolator gave to me: a 650 ti Boost.

I resumed Bulletstorm, and the first words I heard were Trishka's; "That's four more dicks down," and my heart was filled with joy.

Now my entire system power consumption only registers something in the range of 240W under full gaming load (down from 300), and my happy tanks are full to overflowing.

I'm currently just breaking into the good Dr's house in Dishonored

Minerva's Den is terrific. I actually had more trouble with Bioshock 2 at the beginning when resources were scarce (a bit like Deadspace). Once I reached a certain point though the rest of the game felt much easier, including that finale. I literally emptied everything I had which felt good given how much I'd stockpiled! I also loved that...

...Eleanor fights alongside you. That was a real surprise and for me eclipsed Elizabeth in Infinite because Lamb actually gets directly involved. I thought they did a great job of the endings; they were very well thought out with regards to the decisions you make and how Eleanor 'carries' you and your actions with her determining her outlook on life. Did you notice the statues of Subject Delta when you play as a Little Sister? I didn't notice them myself but they show how you dealt with Stanley, Holloway and Alexander. Pretty neat.

I am playing Far Cry 3 and am not happy with all the problems with the game. Having to go through Uplay to play the game is annoying, but not as bad as GFWL. The menus are not working as they are supposed to. The fast travel and the skills menu took me a while to figure a way to make them work. I just figured out how to sell items and equip a second weapon. Nothing is explained. Oh for the days of good manuals. I just got my first safehouse. I wish I had done a lot of hunting before that as the area is thick with pirates. You can't go anywhere but they show up. I do like the look of the game and exploring is fun when I can avoid the pirates.

Later...seems like I have solved any technical problems and the pirates are fewer in the outlying areas. Great fun exploring new areas, except for the occasional tiger or komodo dragon.

Of the games from this years Steam sale, Tomb Raider 2013 is my favorite by far. Despite the lack of, you know, tomb raiding, the game still manages to be playable hours at a time. I haven't played any of the others (other than demo's) so I still getting a guilty feeling jumping off too high ledges and my ribs often hurt in sympathy.

Tomb Raider 2013

I've not played any of the others - except the demo for Guardian of Light which did nothing for me - so my expectations were "Steerpike enjoyed this, maybe I will, too". It's fun... except the part where I'm swarmed by crazy Solarii bent on killing me. At first, I wasn't sure I liked the game because I'm a combat weenie and having to run n' gun/bow isn't in my DNA. According to the game, I'm at 60% and I've gotten tons better! I can actually move and fire head shots with the bow (preferred weapon). I wish there was more stealth as that's my preferred MO when having to kill something/one. Don't rush me!

I'm ever so slightly put off by Lara's graphic deaths when I'm not quite fast enough with a QTE (hate!) or the "log rides". I cannot tell you how many times Lara was impaled on something sharp when sluicing down the river into Shantytown. At one point, I just walked away and let the game recycle the wind-up and death while I walked to the kitchen and took bread out of the oven (I'm a renaissance girl - baking bread *and* killing cultists!). And I hate the blood splatter on the camera.

I like the way Lara is progressing from unsure, privileged young woman into a whatever-it-takes survivor. When she yelled at the Solarii "Run, you bastards! I'm coming for you!" I had to smile.

I can't wait to open up Tomb Raider. It seems to be receiving much more praise now that the year is through, as opposed to when it came out and people were all "it is kind of good."

I recently finished Infamous after it sat on my PS3 hard drive for 2.5 years - received it from Sony's 'sorry we broke for 2 months' apology - and it is ... a game, where you do some things. There is a lot of jumping off of things; "sticky parkour" I'd call it; too sticky actually. There is also about forty-nine million instances where you will click R1 to shoot lightning out of your hands. Far too much of that. I'd compare Infamous to Assassin's Creed 1: good premise (superhero, open-world, kill bad guys/do quests) but like AC1 once you do one or two missions you've essentially done them all, and the game lasts just way too long. It also didn't have the interesting revised history story that AC1 had going for it (if that's a thing you're into). So overall I'd say Infamous is equal to or less than the general experience of Assassin's Creed 1. In summary: don't play it.

I might give Infamous 2 a chance since that was free a while ago for PS+ members. Will probably play some more interesting stuff first; such as Tomb Raider '13!

Aw, I really like Infamous.  It suffers from some of the same problems that many open world games do, but I was a bit more compelled by its gameplay than, say, GTA.  Getting in big fights with your cooler powers is pretty entertaining.  I played it at release and enjoyed it a lot, but I can imagine it might not have aged as well as some titles.  I'd still rate it as much superior to the first Assassin's Creed, which literally had like three missions that you repeated.

Anywise, I don't feel like Infamous 2 did a lot to fundamentally fix what you didn't like about the first, so I wouldn't bother.
