SB, I've never played Fire Emblem, but from the description, it does sound similar. It has been compared to HOMM, turned based and strategic battles. I've never played anything like it and and was confused in the tutorial, but once I got on to it, I loved it. Gamersgate is having a sale right now--$2.49 for Legend.
I'm in the middle of Brothers now. The controls are hard to get used to, but I love the idea - and the visuals are beautiful. It has a great idyllic fairy tale look.
Next on my list: Killer is Dead. I have quite a few games to finish before Dark Souls 2 comes out in March.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
I'm playing Riven, which I got from GOG and is kinda fun. I've been dredging my desktop icons for something and found SpaceChem as well. Also looking at this online RNA building project. http://arstechnica.com/science.....gning-rna/ I quite disliked the online protein folding game, but this one seems better designed and more rewarding in that blingy sorta flashy reward cup sort of way.

It'd be perfect if it weren't for all the clicking.. Played a bit back in the day, it's nice to not have all the disk swapping. Visual quality isn't what it seemed to be, either. I remember those funny bent water areas being the height of visual technology.

The artwork is gorgeous, especially on a handheld. I haven't played a turn-based combat game in ages I'd forgotten how "calm" it can be. It's got your basic JRPG clichés - one survivor of a destroyed village vows revenge; someone with amnesia (not the main character oddly enough!); girl with a temper; girl who's on the run from crazy people. The voice acting isn't the best, but who cares?
I wasn't sure I'd like it so I grabbed the demo first. The demo explains nothing and throws you into middle of the pool to sink or swim. Also, the demo is a completely different area/adventure from the full game... but you do get goodies for playing the demo. Once I understood the mechanic of Default vs Brave things fell into place and I started enjoying it. It still took me a couple of hours to figure out jobs and abilities once I got the full game!
I've only been playing the full game since Tuesday, so it's still fresh and new. We'll see how/if I still like it when it hits the "grindy" phase.
