Toger, I've held off on Enhanced, even at $5. Having finished Standard I don't expect to play it again. (Helmut's potion spreadsheet was a godsend) I've put that $5 towards Witcher II (preordered on GOG.com).
I'm safe on Steam today. Waiting until Holiday 2011 for an even lower price on Dead Rising 2. [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]
Scout, Gamersgate has Mass Effect 2 for $7.98 (digital download).

Outcast….I have installed the disk version, searched for ancient patches, tweaked wonky sound files* more times than I can count. Subsequently, I have advanced no further than the tutorial every single time. [Image Can Not Be Found] Hate the controls, can't do timed tasks, sadly disappointed & supremely angry every single time. Uninstall in frustration every single time.
So, what am I suggesting? If you really want to play Outcast – and thems that have love it to bits (ask Pokey, believe she is a lover)– then buy the GOG version. I was sorely tempted but based on my history, figured I would still get stuck on the tutorial…no matter the version.
* MUSIC WAY LOUD, voices distant whispers….now I know to use + and – keys, I ask you, what games use those keys for sound?!?!?!
I've played Outcast. I think it was an RPG, not sure cause it was like 10 years ago that I played it. God, but it was ugly. Fun though. A big open world, run-around game set in a desert world. I remember liking it a lot at the time. I didn't have an particular problem with it but I don't remember much about it.
Too late Yapette. I bought ME2 last week. Played some of it last night. Looks great. I managed to get my character from the first game transfered over so I'm happy.
Toger:
Enhanced Witcher. If you have the game already, the Enhanced version is a FREE download. Or was when I wrote that little peice about it.
Yapette, it has been a long time since I played Outcast, but I loved it at the time. There were a lot of complaints on the tutorial and people quit because they found it hard. I didn't have much of a problem. There is one part that is especially tricky (sneaking?). If you do a search, you might find some tips on getting by it. I've heard that if you try many times, he will give you a pass.
Youtube has a four part tutorial. Maybe it will help.

Pokey, you are soo correct. Now I remember, it was the sneaking. Caught every time.
I have known myself to pursue an objective that I keep failing (except JUMPING) out of pure cussedness. Maybe I will take my own advice & buy the GOG version. If only to remove Outcast's nasty memories & cease dragging these damnable disks from house to house.
And if you try long enough, he will let you pass.

Pokey, your link cost me $4.19 ! [Image Can Not Be Found] Thanks for finding that reference. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Yes, I bought the game again via GOG. That is, after looking at my pages of notes starting with an install on win98 ~ year 2000, latest on XP in 2010. Never again. This time: single .exe.
Oh, and I made a mistake about keys - it's even worse than I remembered. In case anyone googles & finds this thread:
R - volume up
E - volume down
D - balance up (I think that means balance between voice/music)
F - balance down
wtf? The most unintuitive control keys ever.
Sent them an email. Don't expect a response too soon. As far as I can tell reading all the forums and Steam help stuff, the only option is for them to give the gifts to someone else. Not exactly what I was looking for.
I'm gonna have a real hard time telling them they just blew about $40 on digital waste…
Edit: This is some frustrating shit. I went to the forums to see if I can find help there. Couldn't find a post with a similar problem so tried to create my own post. They told me I need to log in... with a completely new account. Can't use my regular steam account. Made a new account, tried to start a new thread, and found out that despite having made an account just to use the forum, I'm not allowed any access to the forum (aside from reading it) until a moderator opens up my forum account access. I can't see any sense in this at all..
Picked up the re-vamped Monkey Island: LeChuck's Revenge along with Blue Toad Murder Files. AdventureGamers liked it well enough, but they've led me astray before (Memento Mori - reviewer gave it 3.5 stars. That game was so horrible I'm still trying to figure out what game he was playing 'cause I'm pretty sure our games weren't the same).

Ditto on LeChuck's Revenge. I've played all the Monkey Island games but somehow missed this one, apparenly the best in many people's estimation. I like that I can switch back and forth from the new look and the old look too. I have the floppies still installed on an old 486 out in deep storage in the garage attic…where it will most likely remain in perpetuity. Maybe the mice are playing it.
