It is a bit clumsy - there must be an effective brewing minigame if they worked at it enough - but I really learned to like it. The way the Witcher handles potions is so different than everything else ever made it feel really flavorful (like, a flavorful part of the game, I mean. The potions themselves would taste gross). It's a game with plenty of sudden action, yet the potions demand that you move carefully, engage on your terms, anticipate enemies, etc. Potion-drinking became almost like a part of the pre-dungeon rituation for me.

Well I'm certainly intrigued. Prepared and willing for a potion crafting system to win me over. My experience with most games is that you make/acquire large amounts of potions only to never use them.
But if The Worst Player Of Games Ever got along with it then maybe I can too!

An absolute must of a sale for anyone who missed one of these games, or just for anyone looking to solidify their digital collection:
Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics are FREE on gog.com! Free I say!

You might as well go there and click "Buy" simply to have a digital copy of two of the best role-playing turn based games ever and Tactics which I've never played and can't comment on.

Yeah I picked these up immediately. Go GOG!
I have a boxed copy of Fallout and never had any trouble running it... I think I just copied the disk over and ran if from my hard drive rather than going through the archaic installer. Not sure though.
One comment on RPS was very encouraging in light of my experience with the Fallout games. This person played the entire series for the first time within the last 5 years or so and said that the real dip in quality is Fallout 3 -- Fallout 1 & 2 and New Vegas were far superior in the story/characters/quests/writing department which is ultimately what made me drift away from 3. It just felt so... dull and lifeless. Maybe I should forget what Ian did to me in Fallout and give it another spin at some point. Tactics tickles my fancy as well as a tactical squad-based strategy game with light RPG elements. I think it was overlooked/criticised for not being a full blown RPG at the time.
Agreed that 1/2/NV > 3, but at the same time you've still got a lot of that Fallout quality there. Maybe it's #4 out of 4 but I still enjoy it more than most other games. Even if it's just Bethesda developing Fallout 4 (as if that's a terrible thing) I'm highly anticipating it.

I was lucky to pick up the Fallout bundle for free too - I've not played any of those, so it will be interesting to see Fallout in it's native (ie not Morrowind) format!
And another Steam sale so soon? Great

Not sale related, just news, but a Telltale employee subtly confirmed on their community forums this evening that the current Steam release date, for The Walking Dead S2E1, of "approximately 12 hours" (as I write this at 01:30 ET) is accurate and should be unlocked as advertised; you never know since sometimes Steam plays with these tentative dates in their system, and it seems like a release date has not been officially announced (surprisingly, at this point) because of a possible hold up with the PlayStation Network stateside - look for a 1 week delay there, barring a miracle; everyone else (PC, Xbox, PS3-EU) should be able to get the game no later than Wednesday this week.

Looks like it may have been a PSN EU hold up, rather. Tweet from TT:
Today. @steam_games worldwide, @PlayStation 3 North America. Tomorrow, @Xbox 360 ww, @AppStore this week. @PlayStationEU To be confirmed.

So I clicked the "read latest post" button but for some reason it catapulted me to the very beginning of this thread, so I had a look around. Highlights:
- The VERY FIRST Steam sale (we marvel at the prices)
- Earnest, unironic discussions of our doubts about Steam
- Lakerz mentioning GoGamer - how's that for a blast from the past
- Spike
That was 2009. We were young then, and innocent. I say: we all make a pact to meet again at the Steam Sale thread in 2017.

Gog has a spring insomnia sale on. They have introduced an annoying concept in the digital download age, a 'copies left' counter which can only be an attempt to motivate someone to buy. I'm sure that by now, we all have everything we want that they have on offer, but still, there it is.
I've noticed that Steam now has an annoying window that stays up showing the product key when launching a game. Grumpy today.

I'm curious, Helmut, since you might be on Steam more than I am.. have you noticed any kind of increase in prices since March? I'm pretty sure that $5 and $10 hike was all across Canada? (Assuming you haven't left your straw house for the beaches of So Cal?) Most new retail console games I'm seeing at $69.99 now. And peripherals are up by $5 too. So I've been wondering if the also sort-of-unofficially-standard PC price of ten dollars lower will now go by the wayside as well, and if we'll start seeing $59.99 on your average AA / AAA stuff, and then of course $69.99 on the mega-AAA stuff (CoD, BF).

I don't spend much time in the store, I rarely look when there's not a major sale, and I really don't tend to buy anything less than two years old so I can't comment. I think I've noticed the prices on GOG have gone way up. I think they're marketing newer games more now, but I see System Shock 2 for $9.99, and I'm pretty sure it was $5.99 for a long while. There's no value in Baldur's Gate at $9.99. None at all.
