Remember a few months ago where I talked about EVE Online and Dust 514 and how CCP intend to have a console exclusive title, that plays in the first person, effect the EVE universe? No? Ok. Read this first. Right, now we are all on the same page, CCP producer Thomas Farrer has partaken in a hefty three page interview with Gamasutra to discuss the marriage of EVE and Dust and how the two will co-exist, …
How did I miss this? It can’t possibly wait until my SW:TOR news round-up! Bioware have announced a new player versus player warzone called “Huttball” and who better to detail it than the legendary (and very wobbily headed) Dalas Dickinson! Hit the jump, hit the jump!
In the first of my news round-ups, I thought I’d start with the mighty Guild Wars 2. It has been a busy couple of weeks in the world of massively multiplayer games after Gamescom and PAX, so I wanted to link a good few news stories, videos and blog posts of Guild Wars 2 that might interest some of you who share my addiction, or for those that havn’t had your ear to the ground. In …
Still on the fence over whether to buy Bethesda and Splash Damage’s team based shooter Brink? If so, there’s no better time to get your SMART on and pay a well overdue visit to The Ark. Starting right now on Steam and for three days only, it will cost you zero of the currency of your choice to see what you think of Brink’s much hyped yet critically and commercially divisive multiplayer action. Like what …
You! Yes, you there! With the bowler hat and the suitcase leaning against a lamp post sipping a fine cup of delicious Yorkshire tea. Have you played VVVVVV yet? No? Why not? Because you’re a bad person? Yes, that must be it. In fact right here it says you’re a terrible person. And we weren’t even testing for that. If you’ve yet to play VVVVVV despite the lure of delicious indie gaming goodness and even a …
Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series are some of my favorite games of this generation, or ever. They are well-made, exciting, and have the sort of gripping storytelling and character development that so often eludes game developers entirely. Their cinematic nature makes the series seem like a shoe-in for film adaptation, but the director attached to the film, David O. Russell, seemed dead set on not drawing from the games. Like, at all. But with his recent …
Presumably Suda51 doesn’t. Nor does Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Or at least they don’t if June’s NPD numbers are anything to go by. As it turns out, Child of Eden seems to have tanked pretty hard. It’s currently only available on Xbox 360 with an impending PlayStation 3 release sure to give it a slight sales boost at worst, but even on a single format charting at number 83 on the back of 34,000 units shifted is …
One year ago Playdead Games‘ Limbo was announced as the lead-off title in Xbox Live’s “Summer of Arcade” for 2010. It wasn’t believed to be in development for any other systems until, little more than a week ago, a summer 2011 release for PS3 and Steam was announced. Today, Playdead have revealed those launch dates. Limbo will arrive on the PlayStation Network for North America and Europe on July 19 and 20, respectively, and worldwide on Steam, August …
Under normal circumstances the release of a patch is not a noteworthy event. However, the amount of bugs hiding in the crevices of Fallout: New Vegas at the time of its release would frighten even the most unflinching New York landlord. For that reason every patch implementation since last October has been met with dances around bonfires and such.
OK, the Steam Summer Sale is starting. Lewis B doesn’t believe me, but it’s happening. How do we know? Valve have just fired the first shots. Valve Collection 82% off? Rockstar Collection 71% off? It begins. I’m delirious with excitement. This is obviously my first Steam sale as a fully fledged member of the PC community, and I can’t wait to fill my library with games I can’t possibly find the time to play for …
I’ve not posted anything about Star Wars The Old Republic in a while. There is a reason for that and it’s mostly because it still doesn’t look any better. For a game that has reportedly had several hundred million spent on it, I would have thought Bioware would have been able to hire an animator of reasonable skill. As for the combat, well that still looks incredibly un-star-warsy. The coolest thing about the trailer …
Demonstrating that while they oppose women and most of the Bill of Rights, the Justices of the Supreme Court retain some margin of respect for the First Amendment, the highest court in the United States has upheld the Ninth District ruling in Schwarzenegger Brown vs. Entertainment Merchants Association. It is officially Not Constitutional to penalize retailers for erroneously selling age-inappropriate games to minors in the United States. Says the usually-evil Justice Scalia: This country has …
No one knows exactly when the United States Supreme Court will issue a ruling on Schwarzenegger vs. Entertainment Merchants Association, the first case on game censorship to reach the highest court in the U.S., but everyone is talking, and the talk is… Monday. A favorable ruling on this case will indicate – nationally – that punishing retailers for selling age-inappropriate games to minors is illegal. In English, a favorable ruling will mean that Best Buy is …
It has been a busy few hours over on the ArenaNet blog, as the first details of Guild Wars 2’s underwater combat have begun to surface (sorry), as well as some details of the game’s dungeons. Unlike other MMOGs, it seems ArenaNet want the underwater elements of Guild Wars 2 be as prominent as that above, so have introduced specific weapons that can only be used underwater, such as spears, tridents and harpoon guns, with …
Mario Marathon has become a delightful yearly event, and the fourth installment is running as I type! A team of generous friends will play Mario games all nonstop, all weekend, to raise donations for Child’s Play Charity, which collects cash and toy donations for children’s hospitals around the world. It’s most fun at, like, 3:20 a.m., when the guys are half-dead and completely lacking in the motor skills required to play Mario games, but you …
