Something strange just happened. I was summoned to fight Iron Golem four times in the last hour. The first time I fell, but the next three we won. I had 74,000 souls after the second win and then 134,000 after the third. That's 60,000 for one battle. Is there a bonus for three in a row? grin

Now I have plenty to finish upgrading my flame to +5 ascended. It is pretty powerful at +3.

Pokey, you were probably summoned to someone's NG+ without realizing it. Iron Golem gives 120,000 souls in NG+. Halve that for being a summons, and there's your answer. smile

I'm off to Anor Londo with my new character. Level 60 ... trying medium weight and sorcery rather than miracles this time. With pyromancy as well, of course, since it's just mad not to have it!

xtal, that makes sense. I've been seeing some amazing weapons used by phantoms. One of the last ones was using Dragon's Breath. I never saw it before.

I am in the  Tomb of the Giants, overlooking the final area before the boss. I have no idea where to start. I guess I'll have a go at him myself once I find him, since I am here, and see how it goes. Am I likely to get help from a phantom at the last bonfire or is there a better spot?

This area is hard. I had so much trouble with the Knight on the narrow ledge that I finally used the fog ring and sneaked past him.

I made it to Anor Londo. Iron Golem was no problem with help. Amazing view. I don't get the sense of oppression that's so prevalent in other areas. Makes me wary of letting my guard down. The (first?) bonfire was easy to find as well and it actually has a living, speaking keeper.  It's all a bit disorienting.

I'm waiting at the second bonfire in the Tomb of the Giants, hoping to get some help with the boss. I've been invaded five times in about 30 minutes. I defeated two, one ran away and and I was killed twice. I also died at the boss fog door when I was attacked while in my inventory and barely had time to react. I saw one summons sign but it failed. Anor Londo sounds good right now.

I have my first Lord's Soul. Gravelord Nito is dead. I got tired of being invaded while waiting for help and did it myself. So glad to be out of that place and back at Firelink.

Way to go, Pokey. I couldn't leave the Tomb of Giants fast enough. Too damn dark. The people breathing dragon breath/fire receive that item from joining a covenant. I tried it myself, personally I don't fancy it because you permanently take that dragon head form until you die. If you're in human form it usually leads to an unfortunate suicide and waste of humanity. I've been lurking on the wikispaces forum much lately and it sounds like an exploit with the dragon had has recently been discovered where people somehow trick the game into shooting items out of the dragon head, instead of the fire breath. Everything from prism stones to throwing knives... it sounds unfortunate. I wonder if FromSoft will release another patch this year ... perhaps they'll wait until DLC arrives in the winter.

I had a great run through Anor Londo with SB this evening. He summoned me probably a total of six or seven times, and his world must have been invaded by nearly a dozen people.

We are now both pros at typing messages on the PS3. It's awful.

I just started a new character because Dragon's Dogma is giving me fits. This time around I'm a zippy female thief with red hair and a mean Bandit's Knife +5. Small round shields and daggers make the parry/riposte move and backstabbing much easier!

Taurus Demon's down, I'm camped in the Parish, and I'm going to try and take all the advice about spending souls on equipment over levels. Congrats to all the rest of you on your progress!

With the various experimenting I've done I've learned one thing: it's just silly not to take the master key as your starting gift. Unless you specifically want to do some sort of "challenge run" it's not worth it to take anything else. Firebombs are common and I almost never find an appropriate time to use them. Humanities, single or twin, meh, Divine Blessing... again, when would you ever use this? It's so rare I've always been afraid to. The rings are worthless. The only other option is the Pendant, simply because it seems to be the biggest mystery among the Dark Souls community. But even still, it has no discovered use.

With the master key you have so much more lenience. Particularly skipping most of Blighttown. I've run through the whole place maybe 3 times in total now, and there's not much that's worth getting versus the torment you go through in getting it. Plus it's still confusing as fuck. The Eagle Shield is solid, and of course the small detour for the Fire Keeper's Soul is worth it ... but that's about it. Master key for the win, I say. If you start a faith build you can grab Astora's Straight Sword at the very start of the game, which is pretty good.

I'm in Duke's Archives. It is certainly a much nicer place than the Tomb of the Giants, except for the creatures trying to kill me. No big problem until I met up with the boss. He killed me but I guess that is supposed to happen. I'm sitting in a cell now, gearing up to move onward. Big Hat Logan is supposed to be somewhere around here, at least I hope so.

Big Hat Logan was not in the cell where he was supposed to be. Wonder what happened to him?

Check off the second Lord's Soul. Dukes Archives wasn't very difficult but the Crystal Cave was a bit more so. The first time I tried the boss, I was not online and used arrows to mark the path on the invisible walkways. I nearly got him that time, but decided to get help because it is a chore getting to him. Being online, there were plenty of messages marking the path and he wasn't a problem. I rather liked this area of the game after being in the Tomb of the Giants. The Paladin armor I got there was very curse resistant, so I was glad I got it before the Archives.

Nice job, Pokey. If you ever need a large clump of souls-- say, to purchase some of Logan's spells-- the Archives are a great place to help others, as many people need some assistance with Seath, and between him and all the crystal golems each run should rake in a fair bit of souls.

Unfortunately, the Archives/Crystal Cave is the one lord soul that's in a semi-bearable atmosphere. You're done with the worst of them, the Tomb of Giants, but be prepared for New Londo and Lost Izalith. Both should have summons available to you if you've followed certain paths correctly.

Good luck!

I defeated Sif finally and then the Centipede Demon with Soltaire's help, though he didn't help all that much. Just stood around for a while and then used only his sword and died early. The Bed of Chaos is just ahead. I was invaded again while in my inventory. I had just removed my armor. That is the third time that has happened. Is there some way they know you are vulnerable?

Is there a good place to get some red titanite chunks that I need to upgrade my Fire Claymore? I think there may be some on the other side of the closed passage to Lost Izalith.

Later...I found the red titanite chunks. With my repeated running back to the Bed of Chaos, I got three from those big guys with the octopus feet. Need just one more and then a red titanite slab to finish my Fire Claymore. I've done the right and left sides of the boss but I miss every time I jump for the center root.

That center jump is tricky! You need to zig just a little to the left, I think, or else you'll miss it. I had a lot of trouble with the Bed of Chaos.

Pokey, after this it's just New Londo and then the endgame for you, right? Good luck!

I just have New Londo and the end game after I get by this boss. I have been busy farming red titanite chunks. I have nearly all I need plus one red titanite slab. I found my way to the backside of the shortcut door and was surprised when it opened. I can use that if I want to return here. There were a bunch of critters and a crystal lizard that gave more red titanite chunks. Solaire was there too, in bad shape. It was a sad end.

I made the jump and got my third Lord Soul. I still need a couple red titanite chunks to finish off my fire weapons. I'll farm here for a while and then off to the catacombs to upgrade and another try against Stray Demon. Then off to New Londo.

Xtal, I'll keep you in mind when I get to the Four Kings and see how it goes. I've never checked with Oswald to see if I have sins. With the NPCs I've been forced to kill, I wonder what my status is. I haven't had much luck with NPCs, Logan, Solaire and Siegmeyer, all dead or missing. I may recheck Sen's Fortress to see if Logan ever actually left, though he said he would find his way to Firelink and Griggs said he had arrived there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, Big Hat was where I suspected he might be, standing in his open cage at the Fortress. He is at Firelink now. I suppose I'll have to talk to him in his cell at Duke's archives even though I opened the door. Oswald said that I had sins and wanted 40,000 souls for absolution. I didn't pay up.

Big Hat went directly to his library location from Firelink.

The third bonfire in Duke's Archives is a great place to put down your summon sign. I'm getting summoned in about 2-3 minutes and accumulating a lot of souls to upgrade a second pyro glove to trade to Snuggly.

Definitely one of-- if not the best-- summon spots in the game, Pokey. As for New Londo, the only likely places are the large area right outside of the elevator from Firelink, and just before the boss fog gate. Lower New Londo is also the best place in the game to farm regular titanite chunks, but it's hell down there. (Though I'd take it over Blighttown!) How's everyone else doing? It was a weekend of visiting family, so no Souls for me!

I started a few new games to experiment with character builds, but in the end I think I'm going to go on a Souls-free period until the expansion comes out, then start all over again. Still undecided whether I'll go for Darkstalker Kaathe's storyline or stay with Frampt and just... not do what I did the first time around.

Activating Kaathe, my lord, to get through New Londo that early? I can't even imagine...

Pokey, you must have hit a bug of some sort with that Big Hat Logan problem. I think by default anyone who says they're "going back to Firelink" just sort of warp there the next time you rest at a bonfire that isn't Firelink - I don't think they walk or anything - though maybe he just got stuck on his cage door. Or maybe he decided he liked Sen's Fortress! Me, I couldn't get out of that place fast enough. He sells various sorceries once he reaches the Archive, but his prices are mad.

I myself never did defeat Stray Demon. I simply could not get hits on that guy. Which is funny, since Demon Firesage, Stray Demon, and Asylum Demon are all basically the same monster, and I had no problem with the other two.

What's your progress, Botch?
