GamePolitics.com reports that Dennis McCauley, longtime overlord of that site and tireless fighter for free speech protection for the games industry, is stepping down as of today to pursue another opportunity. McCauley was also a freelance journalist for several more traditional outlets, but has indicated that he will be leaving the profession of journalism entirely.
GamePolitics is owned by the ECA and as such won’t be shuttered; we’re expecting the announcement of a new editor sometime today.
Former IGDA Executive Director Jason Della Rocca once noted that if you’re interested in the games industry, there’s really only one site that you need to visit every day: Dennis McCauley’s Gamepolitics.com. And for years, many gamers and industry folk, including myself, have made that a mantra – all the other sites can wait, but you’d better check GP before your coffee cools in the morning. While I’m sure the tradition of advocacy will continue with the new editor, I and others will surely miss Dennis McCauley’s strong voice and courageous reporting. Best of luck, Dennis!
