The Log might be a little later than scheduled this month, but The Log is here nonetheless. And he’s here to count your gaming misery. March was a pretty brutal month for The Log, and some of those minus figures are really starting to toll up.
For many of us, however, April may have offered a chance for relief. The deluge of games has instead been replaced by a deluge of rain and wind, so what better opportunity to take advantage of rubbish weather and a slow month for release to catch up on those games? Lord knows we need to, because May is looking particularly hot on the horizon.
As always, you can find the original rules here. For those who may have forgot their previous log scores, you may want to check out March’s tallies in the comments here. In a couple of months or so, The Log may wish to cause further embarrassment by compiling a league table at the half way stage for all entrants so far, so if you could ensure your numbers are up to date thus far, The Log would be rather appreciative.
Happy logging, Log Tappers!

[starts to add up some numbers and stuff]
…I don’t wanna talk about it.
I got impatient (I must be overly fond of shame), and posted this to March just a little while ago.
Dark Souls is in the mail! -1
And darn GoG sale! Like I’m ever going to finish Freespace 2: -1
YTD Total: -4
I was on a roll for a while there. I was a game-finishing machine. But I just glanced back at my latest score (-4), and there’s been no movement at all.
I was expecting a lot from Tiger Style’s Waking Mars, the new iOS game from design god Randy Smith of Thief fame, but unlike their previous outing Spider, this one is…
…well, I’ll not be marrying it, people, let’s put it that way. Who’d have thought that a game with no spoken dialogue – all text – could somehow have bad acting?
I’m about halfway through Defender’s Quest but now the Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition is upon me. And for some reason I was compelled to reinstall Pathologic and give that another go.
I need to spend the next month powering through games because come late May, all hell breaks loose again.
-4
Start a Dark Souls thread in Bollocks, Botch! I’ve been itching to dispense some wisdoms.
Also: I like this log. The other one seemed… sinister.
Ok, um.
I bought Fez, but also FINISHED IT: take THAT, log of Shame. So I’m still at, um, -3. :/
1 broken (RIGHT!) wrist + titanium plate = no bought games.
Out of desperation I learned to mouse lefty but not RMB or combat, heaven forbid the need to (rapidly) left-mouse steer (looking at the ground! up at the sky! damn, caught in a corner!). I gave up “real” gaming in disgust when a newly created hunter (WoW rez scroll free 7 days) died 3x in a row at lvl 7.
What has saved my sanity is my first apple device (ipad 3) and cruising the app market. As my price point is somewhere between free & 99 cents I’m not going to count anything I bought 🙂 (think maybe I’ve spent $5). I do have a price-drop watch list which included Waking Mars so I’m sorry, Steerpike, it doesn’t live up.
So, my cast was removed yesterday & words cannot describe the ick-factor of my puckered & purple two inch scar complete with black thread stitches. On the other hand, the good news is one look at the wrist should answer the inevitable questions when my arm sets off every security scan between Texas and Kuala Lumpur which is where I fly tomorrow.
See you in two weeks when I will yay! take up gaming yay! once again*!
* oh make no mistake, I’ve been gaming but refuse to count obsessively breeding dragons in Dragonvale
Yap! Have a fun trip! What is wrong with you! Why do you go to such unpleasantly warm places! My use of exclamations is meant to highlight this! Kuala Lumpur! Seriously! Why! Consider instead the planet Mercury! Or hell!
If I didn’t know what misery you went through with that broken wrist, I’d think you’d done it to avoid our trip to Svalbard.
Kuala Lumpur: pix or it didn’t happen.
Have a great trip – and so glad you’re free of the cast. 🙂
Legend of Grimlock: -1
Total War: -2
IL-2 Sturmovik: -1
Silent Hunter 3: -1
———————
Total since xmas: -5
I should have known better than to buy those Total War games. In fact everything I snagged at the xmas sales has be mo’ fail.
Oh crap on a cracker! I’d forgotten about the iOS games I’d purchased :/
Previous score: -6
Adventure Bar: -1
Swordingo: -1
Tales of Graces f: -1
Kingdoms of Amalur: +1
Witcher 2: -1
——————-
Tally to date: -9
I’ll second Toger.
I might take Atom Zombie Smasher out of my backlog because I’m not convinced I’ll be returning to it in a hurry… we’ll see. I bought Sword and Sworcery the other day and earlier in the month I bought Minerva’s Den but I’m convinced that’s never going to work so my score is -8. If Minerva’s Den happens to start working then that’ll be -9.
March score: -5
Games acquired since: None! (whew! Willpower baby!)
Games finished: Journey
Year-to-date score: -4
If I have finished Journey 10 times can I change my score to +5? Because I have 🙂
Also, I am about 5 minutes away from walking out my door to pick up Witcher 2, so I’l be at -5 again shortly. Please hold . . .
Previous score 0
Games acquired: Dark Souls -1
Journey -1
Grimrock -1
Game finished Journey +1
Score: -2
And I picked up Witcher 2. Back to -5 🙁
Finished Gears of War 3 campaign (couch coop). I don’t play the multiplayer so I consider this finished. Shooter gameplay is as satisfying as ever, but overall I’d say this is my least favorite of the three. Story was wrapped up, but somewhat unsatisfying: +1
I forget, do trades (e.g. Goozex) count? Acquired Killzone 2 for some reason: -1
Total: -4
Provided you’re wanting to play it, any acquisition counts 😉
Finished Stacking! Terrific game but a chapter too long for mine and my girlfriend’s liking. It was charming throughout, we just started to flag towards the end when the stacking mechanic had lost its lustre. Nonetheless, well worth a look. I bet it looks even lovelier on PC.
Very, VERY excited to finally be starting Rayman Origins with my better half. Squee!
Total score so far: -7
Yee gads.
Finished:
Sword and Sworcery EP +1
Acquired:
The Stars Are Left DLC for Magicka -1
Dear Esther -1
Gratuitous Tank Battles -1 (Gifted to me)
Delve Deeper -1 (Gifted to me)
EEK. -10
