I don’t think there could be a better email in the world on a rather grey Tuesday, than an invitation to take part in the Guild Wars 2 Beta. Though I can tell you very little (other than it begins this weekend and I’ve already packed off my entire family) rest assured I will be providing some in-depth coverage come Monday the 20th, so be sure to check back here.
If you have any suggestions on what you would like me to cover during my Beta experience, please do let me know by placing your suggestions in the comments below or by sending me an email. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to take part with big thanks going out to ArenaNet, but if I can also contribute something back to the Guild Wars community it will make the experience all more rewarding, so please don’t be shy!
Now, where is my video recording equipment…

Glad you are in!
i would love to see the Asura Starting Area and the City of Rata Sum!
Of course i am also interested in WvWvW, Guilds, Auction house, Bank, Crafting, Mesmer, new Traits and all the missing info.
Everything that is new will please me 😀
Grats man! 🙂 More underwater skills and combat info if possible would be nice.
Or is it just a PvP beta weekend event?
Obviously, get mesmer footage!(but you knew that already) If it is possible get WvW footage as well, but if not that’s Ok. Also get the Asura and Sylvari capitals and the new trait revamp, and the revamped pet system. That’s all the suggestions I can think up right now! Good luck and I’m so jealous!
hello and congrats on getting into the beta.I for one would like to see skill traits , mesmer gameplay , mesmer pvp , asura starter zone , silvari starter zone, some dungeons if they’re available , or anything you might find interesting
Hi I have 2 requests. First WvWvW, how is that working out in beta? Secondly I’m very interested in RP tools. Are you able to sit in chairs, chatbubbles, emotes, etc.
Sylvari and Asura starter areas, and Mesmer.
Great to hear that you’re in!
I always wanted to see something other than the standard lineair paths people from the demo’s tend to follow. I would like to see some exploring the edges of the zones instead of the common DE’s. The highest mountain or the deepest sea cave, thats what I would like to see!
I hope you have some extra time to visit some awesome spots never seen before. Have fun! 😀
Ranger stuff and Norn wolf transformation please 🙂
it would be great if you could show the charr character creation in-depth such as all fur and color options etc and some warrior footage thx!
Need some Mesmer footage both PvE and PvP for sure
WvWvW, Thief/Mesmer gameplay, maybe Zhaitan? : P
[…] Guild Wars 2: Unleash The Beta! | Tap-Repeatedly […]
I TOLD YOU LEWIS, I TOLD YOU YOU’D GET IN
Enjoy! I want a full report.
It would be great if you could find out how our character’s level affects the scaling of the Personal Story.
Does the Story content scale to our level?
Do we scale to the level of the story content?
Is there no scaling for story content? Can we under or over level it?
Lots of character creation, especially Norn and Sylvari! Also just randomly run around and see how well the game flows, maybe you can find hidden events etc
You bring in the visitors like nobody’s business, Lewis! Oh, and, ahem, good luck on your journey. (I still giggle when that “I’m Free” article pops up in the Tap at Random sidebar – tee hee)
Any time Lewis even thinks about Guild Wars our traffic goes through the roof and the site crashes. Patience, new readers! If you get an error, we’ll be back soon!
Maybe we should just become a Guild Wars site?
I’m really just curious about the core gameplay: How dynamic is combat in practice, how do traits work and how much do they impact combat and character build, how dynamic are events in practice (i.e. do you just see the same content over and over, does it just feel like questing after a while). If they let you PvP, I’m very curious to hear some extended impressions of the conquest mode.
I guess this means I’d prefer you focus on playing one profession intensively, rather than spreading yourself thin and trying to see every profession and racial starting area. But I see where that’s at odds with what others want…
Either way, no pressure! 🙂 One weekend isn’t very long to spend in an MMO…
I’d like to know what the cross character inventory system is like on an account. Is it similar to the GW1 system of moving items between Xunlai Chests or is there a more robust system that lets items be moved to/from any character on an account while playing?
Also, since there is now auto attack, is there any Team Fortress 2 style audio feedback that indicates a successful ranged hit?
Just for the crazy potential, can you use an xbox controller to move through the world?
Have a great gamegasm, Lewis. I look forward to your report.
just a thought but if you have time could you map out the new traitsystem if it has been implemented in the beta ? and also if possible let us see some of the newer pvp areas
Hey, any info about mesmer, WvWvW or dungeons would be great my friend. I am so excited with this information so good luck and have fun!!
It’d be great to see how some of the familiar areas from the Prophecies campaign look 250 years later, at the time of Guild Wars 2. I’m really looking forward to seeing how historically significant areas like the Great Northern Wall and Thunderhead Keep have fared over time.
Please cover as much as the Mesmer as possible. Many of us would appreciate it!
Gratz Lewis! Be sure to bring us as much and awesome coverage as you can! I really envy you, but then again, your article have been superb so it’s good to see you’ve made it in! 🙂 Have fun!
Congratulations!
That is all.
How to get into beta next month? I kid, I kid.
I would really love to see some Asura Thief gameplay. I wanna see how some of the skills work with such short little fellas. I am really curious about how the Leaping Death Blossom skill will work, as in will they actually jump over taller characters?
Also I would like to see if the mob still insta-turn towards you, because thats something that really bugs me. Also movement, how smooth the camera follows your character, etc.
Have fun Lewis!
Since no one has covered this yet, try to get a complete list of elite skills? We’re missing those on the wiki. I usually go straight to the skills and traits section on the wiki, but having armor and weapon stats would also be nice. On top of that, I’d like to know what the armor can be modified with and how. i.e. Runes in GW1.
As always, keep up the stellar quality, looking forward to the discoveries on monday, and have fun…lucky duck.
Congrats Lewis! I think a small portion of your coverage should deal with some of the smaller details in the game. Maybe things like your favorite armor/dye looks, locales, etc. I figure a lot of the bigger sites and reports will focus on a lot of the big stuff that we’ve seen a significant amount on up to now (which is fine btw as things have changes and been iterated upon). And as you’ve probably noticed the fans have appreciated your more detailed and in-depth interviews moreso than those general and generic ones the big sites produce (which again are great for reaching newcomers, etc).
A lot of requests, Lewis, I don’t know if you’re going to have time, but I’d like those TPS reports on my desk Monday morning, 08:00 sharp.
Thanks,
Your boss
Congrats to the opportunity, here my suggestions (again):
AI:
I’d love to see a lot of different enemies and their behaviour. The ranger-pet ai would be interesting too, does it still die like a fly?
Minigames:
There are 30 in the game, mostly in cities I believe, we haven’t seen a lot of them
Eliteskills:
I’d love to see Norn-Transformations in motion. We have only a picture of wolf-, raven- and snowleopardform yet. We haven’t seen the new skillbar that comes with it, how they look like in motion and how the transformation itself looks like.
Mesmer-Gameplay:
It’s the profession we know the least, haven’t seen actual point-of-view gameplay.
Dynamic Events inside Dungeons:
We heard of those, but it would be interesting, how they play out. Are they only a small side-quest or are they like big chainevents during the 5-man dungeon.
Challenge:
How does the backscaling turn out in terms of difficulty. Is it too easy and no challenge at all, to go back to lower level areas?
have fun! 🙂

@topic:
forgot the new trait system, we still have no information of it. How do we obtain new traits? The new trait-interface. etc.
hmm the guru-guys tell us that they will only experience tutorial/starter-areas.
suggestions if this is true:
1.) Trait-Interface
2.) if it’s possible to visit the main city: try to find the minigames and have fun
3.) It would be nice to see the impact gear has on scaling, so you could go to a lower area (if you are >lv10)
-) and show the “effective attribute” numbers (green) on the character screen
-) then put off a piece / pieces of gear and compare those numbers
4.) you could try to find a skill challenge
(before you start playing, check your skill points in the skill-window… some people in earlier demos suddenly had skill points and didn’t knew where they got them)
…
Remember, you can check out all traits and skills if you create a character and sent it right into competitive PvP, so I ask you to check:
Engineer Tool Kit skills and Elixir Gun skills (portable mortars and other crazy utility skills if possible).
Mesmer of course!
Guardian Spirit Weapons in action! (and other utility skills).
Different Ranger pets (flying ones specially).
Thief stealh only skills.
Oh well… just play everything, but most important of all, have fun!!
I laughed my ass off when I saw that Guru deleted your thread. I’m going to assume they were worried about the competition since they got their hands on Curse’s invite…
I realize your restricted to three races. I would like to see the NORN city or Home instance no one really has footage on the Norn City. Also anything that happened with the Hall of Monuments if you can see that. They say like 1/4 of the home city is specific to your accomplishments. However everyone in the Press last beta everyone picked Nobels because no one wants to be a street rat or common folk see if you get a different part of the city if your a poor person.
