Since the dizzying heights of my birthday post about a month ago I’ve changed my mind on the name of this musical interlude featurette. The phrase “I can feel the epicness flowing through my balls” did originally make me laugh, but now… now it’s just a questionable YouTube comment. I feel so dirty.
Anyway, since I can’t think of a witty name I’m putting the onus on you funny bastards to come up with something better. In the meantime, I’ve got a bit of history and some Lotus III music for you courtesy of ‘Arizona’.
Lotus Esprit: Turbo Challenge on the Amiga was one of the first racing games I remember playing and bizarrely it was created by Gremlin Interactive in Sheffield up the road where Lewis B and Mat C live. Gremlin had a string of hits through the 90s with the Premier Manager and Lotus series but were later responsible for the first ever 3D football game Actua Soccer. Interestingly, in 1996 Gremlin acquired DMA Design (creators of Lemmings, Walker, Hired Guns and Grand Theft Auto, now known as Rockstar North) and three years later were in turn acquired by Infogrames. Unfortunately the Sheffield studio was closed in 1999 and demolished. However, two companies rose from the ashes of ‘Infogrames Sheffield House’; Zoo Digital and Sumo Digital. The latter of which have gone on to develop many successful games with Sega and are now currently working on the Doctor Who adventure games with Charles Cecil.
So there you go. The Lotus games featured some brilliant theme tunes, but I always preferred Lotus III’s and this is probably the best version of it on the internet. It has to be. Take it away Arizona.
YEAAAH!

Absolute F-in’ class. I always thought this theme tune was class and probably one of my faves of that era, maybe second behind Cannon Fodder theme music.
