Listen up, kids: Edge and others report that a leaked document from SEGA strongly suggests that Sony intends to sell all PS2 games as downloads for the PS3 on the Playstation Network. Why SEGA? Well, the document suggested that Sony is courting them as well, to sell Dreamcast games on the system.
We all know that Sony patented a software emulator for the PS2 a couple months ago, and that given the Cell architecture’s computing power there’s no reason the system couldn’t emulate a PS2 entirely in software. The whens are still unknown, but it looks like backward compatibility – of a sort, since you’ll have to re-buy all your favorite PS2 games – is upon us.
What the hell is Sony smoking? No, no, no. I have a huge PS2 library and if I need to re-purchase all the games I haven’t finished or even opened I shall be a crazy, angry woman. Take heed, Sony. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.
i’m with ya there, toger!
Did anything ever come of this?
Not like it affects me much … I own one PS2 game.
Not as far as I know, xtal. Right now only PS1 games are for sale on PSN, I think.
