25 hours of space adventuring, in a gorgeous 2.5D setting? Sign me up.
BlazeSky has taken up 19 hours of mine and my sons time so far. It’s an intriguing indie title that borrows heavily from the likes of Asteroids or Wing Commander, throws you into a gorgeous galaxy, and wraps it up with 25 hours worth of fully voice-acted gameplay.
Its officially in Early Access for $19.99 and despite its infancy, is incredibly polished. I’ll freely admit I wanted to instantly zip around on a Y axis when I first jumped onboard, but it quickly becomes apparent that the approach Double Robot have taken just…works.
My son and I have been playing BlazeSky together every weekend and despite his age (6), he’s been loving every minute of it on an Xbox controller, thanks largely to its simple controls. Most mornings we login, zip around space, run some missions and grab a new ship. That works perfectly for us, and likely many others as well. Here’s its latest trailer.
“Early Access is going to provide a unique opportunity for feedback from real players all over the world”, states Lead Developer, Will Iverson. “I’m looking forward to hearing from everyone on everything – the story, the features, and gameplay balance. I can’t wait to share the world of BlazeSky – a modern science fiction open world environment – with fans of science fiction new and old.”
