Back on topic, I have recently reconnected my antiquated PS2, and started playing some classics such as Area 51 (voice acting by David Duchovny no less), the original half life and The Punisher - which would never get a release on the PS4 now with Marvel licensing things now. After all, when your latest game is Lego Marvel Superheroes, you really don't want to go back to a game where you can feed a Mafia thug's head into a wood chipper.

I don't know. I think it would be funny to see little Lego bits flying everywhere.
But think of the children!

Anyone have their eye on Wolfenstein: The New Order releasing later this month? I really liked Return to Castle Wolfenstein which if I recall was received rather mildly. I'm not sure if this will bear any similarities or go for a grittier take (please, no) but it's on my radar for certain. If I can afford a PS4 by the end of the month it may be my first purchase there (it's on 360/PS3/PC too).
I haven't looked into the new game too much but I'm hoping it retains the supernatural craziness of RTCW and doesn't fall in line with today's shooter expectations; I'll take a fringe product like Spec Ops or Killzone 2 please!
How sad is it that the new Call of Duty series is called Advanced Warfare?? I look forward to its challenger, Battlefield: Contemporary Fighting.

I've never been into Wolfenstein, so no. I am, however, optimistic about Bound by Flame, out for Playstation 3/4 and maybe some other stuff on Friday. Thoroughly unoriginal when it comes to the world and story, perhaps, but it looks like it could be a well put-together ARPG nonetheless.
With the whole premise of being possessed by a demon, I only hope the demon speaks in rhyme.

I'd say be cautious, xtal. Gregg and I played it at Eurogamer and we were not amused. Principally I recall the level design was quite iffy, to the point that booth staff lurked behind all the players to lean in and provide unsolicited headphone removal followed by advice on where to go.
I considered saying "grab my headphones again and you'll lose the hand," but I'm really not that intimidating a person and I don't think I could have carried it off. So I said, "gotcha," and went where they told me.
In any case, it's always hard (and unfair) to judge by a fifteen minute expo floor experience, but what I saw was pretty uninspired. Nazi robots, mostly.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
Well that sounds pretty strange about level design. But I think I'll play it unless it's universally derided as something awful. RTCW wasn't that inspired either but I enjoyed it's out-there-ness. It had the quality of a game that was simply re-skinned and rejigged from something else. Sort of like that bad Clancy "adaptation" Sum of All Fears, which I liked despite its crappy. . .everything.
I need to shoot something soon and there's no telling when People Can Fly's new game will be out, or if it involves shooting anything.

With the help of some gift cards I got a PS4 on the weekend (yay) and am checking out the free games I've acquired via PS+.
Resogun is neat; it's basically the same game as Super Stardust HD but not as three-dimensional, and with a worse soundtrack (Seriously: video game techno music is the worst; it seems to be the haven of unimaginative people who have no refined taste in any sort of music. With that said, Rez sucks. Also: (mostly unrelated) Sound Shapes is below average. Yup!) Fortunately, Resogun's gameplay is interesting enough and has enough challenge to warrant some investment.
I also downloaded Dead Nation without having any idea to expect. I didn't know it was a top-down isometric point-and-shoot game, very much like Alien Swarm. The first two levels that I've played were a lot of fun, and there's co-op which I'm excited to try out because Alien Swarm! I think it's for only two players (I could be wrong) but it's got to be a blast either way.
Has anyone played Child of Light? I tried the demo and it commits the awful sin of dropping you into some random mid-game chunk of gameplay where you have no idea what's going on, what the controls are, who the characters are, how the game plays, or what your objectives are. You are dropped into the middle of some level with birds and people talking gibberish at you. It has made me seriously weary of a game I was quite looking forward to. Oh that gorgeous Ubi Art engine!!

I've been playing Child of Light on PC and really enjoying it (I'm currently a little hung up on the final battle, which is a tough fight). I think it probably works better with a mouse than twin sticks (I tried both on my computer) but overall I really like it. Beautiful game, affecting storytelling, lots of rhyming.

Oh my.
I own Dead Nation on PS3 after it was gifted to me for the hacking incident, but I've never wanted to play it solo because the co-op looked fun.
Haha, finally, someone else who doesn't fawn over Rez! I enjoyed it visually and sonically, but... the gameplay I always found pretty dull. Props to Adam Freeland's 'Fear' and the killer sample of California Soul's awesome strings.
