Yapette, I just saw a "better female faces" mod on Skyrim Nexus. Have you looked into it yet? Personally, it looked a little too "supermodel" for my taste, but maybe it would work.

I spent a couple hours yesterday trying to get the Skyrim 4gb mod working and finally got it smoothed out. Now this morning, the new 1.3 patch comes out and breaks the .exe file. I had to uninstall and reinstall the game. It's up and working fine now, though I had a second CTD this morning. I believe that is exactly what the 4gb mod addresses, those moments when Skyrim asks for over 2 Gb and can't do it. If Bethedsa is going to be releasing tons of little patches like they are threatening, it seems like it would be a pain to keep to have to reinstall this mod after every update. I guess I'll play on and see what happens. I read that Bethesda is going to add their own version of a 4Gb mod in an upcoming patch. The 1.3 patch did fix the erroneous resistance calculating though.

I'm at level 17 and have been doing the Mage College quests. I'm going to wander around the woods for a while now though. I don't want to power through this game too fast. Also, in addition to needing a levitation mod, I want my Acrobatic skill back.

Lydia is now wearing my old Steel armor and wielding a glass great sword. Sometimes I just hang back and let her soften up the mobs for me. I guess she is leveling along with me or even a little bit ahead of me. I'm getting bored with my Dwarven armor and it is nearly useless against hard shelled enemy tanks like boss highway bandits.

I am starting to run into bears. So far I've been able to handle them. They are cave bears so I'm guessing there are bigger, badder bears out there somewhere just waiting for me to get cocky.

I'm having a hard time focusing on a single or two skill trees. I want to try them all! Seeing as I'm not a fan of rolling multiple characters, I want all the skills on this character. I know I can't have them all though so I have to decide pretty quick I guess. I am having fun with the freeze shout though Lydia keeps jumping in front of me at the last second and catching the blast herself. Luckily she thaws out after a few seconds.

Looked at the females, if only. I'm an elf with features that will never mod into those faces, unfortunately.  Right now, if I change my race (which I can do via code), then I must manually type in and reset all my points (racially based & earned via levels/perks). Not willing to do just for a pretty face. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Other news, just got in Diablo 3 beta. Never played I or II, not my kind of game, but new & free = [Image Can Not Be Found]. Except the servers keep going down, probably due to an additional load of beta players (which includes me).

Color me jealous. I loved the first one, hated the respawning in the second. If my rig were newer, I'd be all over that beta. I could use some demon bashing right about now. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Toger, I thought of you when I posted that. So far what little I've played, no respawning. I'm like lvl 3 so that means nuthin'. Is this a game where one goes deeper & deeper down the same hole in the ground all the while killing & looting? If so, not for me.

Naturally I own Diablo I & II and expansion thingies. Two or so years ago installed #I. [Image Can Not Be Found] Little (due to olden days - 640x480? - resolutions) dude herky-jerky running in a field near a fence & a tent, then supposed to go underground? Not for this player. You say that like it's a bad thing. [Image Can Not Be Found] Yes, that is the premise. Didn't you like Titan Quest? It's a brighter, shinier Diablo clone. With Greek (or is it Roman?) mythology thrown in for good measure. [Image Can Not Be Found]

No, I didn't like Titan Quest but that doesn't mean I didn't play it. All the way through. [Image Can Not Be Found] Even the expansion. sigh [Image Can Not Be Found]

Why do vendors, wearing little more than underpants and wielding nothing more substantial than a steel axe, insist on running up to dragons in the middle of their townships to engage in melee?  I'm going to start stealing from them now in revenge, for making me re-load saved games just to keep them alive.

I leave the shop owning to you, you can leave the dragon slaying to me.

I've found the 4 gig mod to work wonderfully, and the patches haven't effected it at all. Sorry to hear it's giving you trouble Scout. If I were to only recommend one mod to people, that would be the one. Not a single crash since I got it.

Also, the easiest and best place to post images online is at imgur.com. You don't even need to create an account if you want to upload (though it doesn't hurt).

It's no thing, Armand. I've only had 3 CTDs in over a 100 hours of play so I've decided to live without the 4Gg mod for now. If I start getting crashes I'll just reinstall it.

BTW, here is a great bunch of hints and tips for playing Skyrim. Like how to warm up a lock before trying to pick it and how to get your companion to carry infinite loot. Highly recommended reading.

I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I got the strategy guide for the game. The thing is as big as a dictionary and about 700 pages long! Found it for about $20 on Amazon.

The first few nights I poured over it for a few hours, and it really brought back the feeling you got from computer games in the early 90's, with the massive manuals and neat hint books. Oh, the days before internet...

We may have to hold an intervention for Armand soon. I'm not sure he's been eating in the real world!

Lots of good tips there, thanks Scout. I didn't know about torches affecting lockpicking, that's quite clever.

I'm now 103 hrs in ... no end in sight. Working on getting my Sneak maxed out w/ Thieves guild stuff; the final ability in that tree sounds almost game breakingly awesome (crouch and enemies lose sight of you, bahaha). Solitude may be the most magnificent city I've seen yet in Skyrim. Winterhold from afar also looked impressive. Whatever the artists for this game were paid in bonuses, it can't possibly be enough for what they've done.

I'm surprised you haven't tried to force me to buy it. 😉

I'm geting freezes/crashes about every 3rd or 4th save at the moment - save file size is around 8.5 mb.  If the new patch doesn't address this issue, then I may have to shelve the game for a while.  I save pretty frequently, maybe every ten minutes or sooner, and having to restart my PS3 every 30 mins or less and re-do the last ten minutes of activity takes the fun out of the game.  I've turned off auto-saves as well - I'd walk through 3 doors and the game would lock up.

And Armand, I intend to get the guide as well!  I just haven't gotten around to it yet.  For games as big as Skyrim, it's very hard to stumble across all the awesome it has to offer without help.

Steerpike: I've thought about recommending it to you (Gregg, Luke, and my buddy Mike all love it too) but you just don't do enough multiplayer gaming for it to feel appropriate. If you wanted to join in on some good fun though, pick it up!

The Metaphysics of Morrowind

This is a very interesting read on some of the metaphysical and 4th wall elements of the Elder Scrolls series, primarily focusing on Morrowind. I think all fans of the series will really enjoy it.

God, this game is playing like heaven since the 1.3 patch came out. No crashes, no stuttering, glorious graphics, huge firefights without a hiccup, smooth as butter. Best PC gaming experience since New Vegas. (knock on wood). I just hit level 30 and whoever said dragon fights were easy must have been drunk and mistaking mudcrabs for dragons. I spent 15 minutes running around hiding from a Frost Dragon at the College at Winterhold, trying to stay out of his jaws. Also have started conjuring as a way to handle mobs. One big ass Frost Atronach in the doorway and I can take a seat and hum Purple Rain while filing my nails and listen to Lydia sigh out of boredom. I now have a staff that summons a Dremora Lord but have yet to use it. The combat is will well balanced with every third fight dicey if I win or lose. I have all kinds of expectations of failure, personally and save accordingly. If I had to go back and replay an hour every time I died in this game, I'd have long ago uninstalled it.

I haven't grinded any at all other than once to smith some daggers to enchant and sell. I'm really digging enchanting rings and such up to 500 gold. I need to get into the Thieves Guild and start selling some. I wish I hadn't said yes to every "take out the gabage" quest ealier cause now I have an unwieldy list of misc quests. Seriously, there needs to be a better way to compartmentalize quests and trunk inventory in my house. I open my trunk and I get a four screen long list of crap I have to scroll through. Otherwise, I'm loving this game.

My only complaint is how console-centric the controls in Skyrim are. I read that the controls were optimized for an Xbox controllers but plugging one into an PC rig kills the FPS, not that I would let a console controller in the same room as my PC. Ah well, each to his own. Personally, they'll have to pry my keyboard and mouse from my dead, cold fingers. The day they stop making games for PC is the day I stop playing video games.

The controls are definitely aimed to the console crowd, Scout, because I've found them quite good on PS3, and I didn't understand the interface complaints at launch; I don't know if that controls identically, but if it does, it is indeed suited to console controls.

It's unfortunate, and one of several reasons I do a lot more gaming on my PS3 these days than I ever did in the past.

I'm also quite glad to hear your game performance has improved since 1.3 came out. I haven't downloaded that patch yet but will hopefully get to that this evening. I still haven't encountered the game-crippling issues that many have, and my save file is now over 7MB, but more time will tell. Hopefully this patch and future ones prevent myself and others from ever seeing problems initialize.

Had 2 CTDs last night so maybe the curse is creeping up on me after all. I think I will reinstall the 4Gb mod again and hope for the best.

Also, I just got my Black Star and new Ebony Armor. And my summoned Dremora Lord is a hoot. I will probably eventually get bored with him but for now he has benched the Frost Atronach.

Also, I thought I had lost Lydia in a dungeon while on the hunt for the Asura Star. I cleared the place without her (just me and old Dremora Lord guy) and went back over it room by room, wondering where the hell she got to. Did I accidentally send her back to the house? Nope. Did I accidentally dismiss her? Nope. Did I accidentally kill her? Not that I could see. Finally broke down and used the console command to take me to her location and there she was, standing in a hallway I had walked down at least three times before during my search. She was on hold, waiting for me to command her to follow me. Either I'm closing in on dementia faster than I thought or it was a glitch.

My smithing is finally up to 100% but my enchanting leaves something to be desired. I did wait until I had leveled up to 30 using combat skills before powering up my smithing so while the foes are tough, they are nothing I can't eventually beat.
