Armand, I know it's racial buffs and enchanted items as I tested them. Not sure about potions though. Like SP said, it's all resistance. Apparently the game no longer figures resistance correctly. The link I posted in my last post gives you a work-around if you don't want to wait for Bethesda to fix it. I assume they are going to release the new patch sooner than later. Apparently they are releasing the new patch for PC first. I guess we are the guinea pigs.

I haven't had the backwards dragon yet though I had two separate dragons attack Morthal in a 24 hour period. But then I'm hanging around that area right now.

I've been away from Skyrim for a while to do resurgent interest in Dark Souls, but I think I'll spend my Saturday playing (instead of spending my Saturday working on the site, which is what I should be doing.)

Scout, thanks for the info and link about rolling back the latest patch. As I'm still only lvl 3, buffs & enchanted items, and especially dragons, are merely wishful thinking but when I played a bit* on Thursday - opening the map made me dizzy, almost nauseous. Of course that made absolutely no sense. The zoom in/out to open/close did seem pronounced but I dismissed the effect due to illogical thinking. Now, I'm not so sure I didn't get the 1.2 patch via steam-stealth.

* still playing Dead Island (which requires being online for cloud-saving, a feature that is sure to play nasty with keeping Skyrim unpatched) and spent another beta weekend in Star Wars: The Old Republic (online). So many good games, so few nimble brain synapses.

And this borkening of resistances ... this affected console folk as well? I haven't noticed my resistance being off, but then I don't have a lot of it; just to poison and disease naturally as a wood elf I suppose. Would those outright disappear from my active effects list, or would I have to notice this through trial and error?

I battled my first blood dragon last night, it spewed fire quite a bit, and I drank a couple fire resistance potions, but I didn't really notice one way or the other if it was off.

I'm now level 22 or 23, and about 80 hours played. Have only visited four of the nine holds (Whiterun, Markarth, Riften, Falkreath). Riften has a lot of interesting people, but no interesting quests I've found yet really. I'm not venturing into the sewers to visit the thieves guild though, so I'm depriving myself through choice. Markarth, on the other hand, is a city rife with interesting issues to tackle. I've definitely changed the face of that city, for better or worse I'm not sure. But that's what makes choice and role-playing great then, isn't it?

The way I tested the borking of magical resistances was to summon a fire atronach and kill it with fireballs, to which it should be immune. Then let it kill me with fireballs, which it shouldn't have been able to do. Then I rolled back to the 1.1 patch and again summoned the fire atronach. This time when I hit it with a fireball I got the text stating that it was resistant to the spell. Couldn't damage it with any kind of fire spell. I only noticed it because I usually have 85% fire resistance and was getting burned alive suddenly. Mostly this affects Nords and Dark Elves and other types with racial spell resistances. And affects racial buffs, enchantments and potions. It's moot now that I dumped the patch. And I did read that it affected consoles as well. In fact console users were the first to notice it. If you don't depend on magical resistance to elemental spell damage, you wouldn't necessarily even notice it. It's most evident on the highest difficulty settings. I'm at default, whatever that is, so it took awhile to see it.

I'm at level 13 and seemed to have hit a point in the game where combat is getting very tough or maybe I'm just in a tough area. I'm wearing a full set of dwarven armor at 130 armor with the Steed Stone enchantment that adds 100 pounds carrying capacity and lets me run full speed in heavy armor. Though I'm casting a lot of spells, I'm spending a lot of time hiding behind Lydia. I'm also using a Necromancer staff to revive recently slain foes to fight for me too but I'm getting killed in one hit from Highway bandits and Falmers. I did finally manage to out-last a band of bandits by running out on the side of a steep slope where they couldn't follow and then hitting them with ranged spells as they slid down the hill. I'm doing a lot of running away at this point.

I'm up in Haalfinger, along the north coast, enjoying the view, riding a dead bandit's horse, and whacking mudcrabs, which, unlike in MW, can actually put up a fight. I watch two mudcrabs kill two low level bandits. There are some shipwrecks up here but I don't have any underwater breathing spells handy so I'll have to come back.

I also cleared out my first big Dwarven dungeon, Mzinchlaleft. Really reminded me of Morrowind, with all the heavy Dwarven cogs and misc. metal junk laying around. There was supposed to be a wizard in there but I couldn't find him. Found the the key to his room on a guard but no wizard. Maybe I have to trigger a quest first. Hopefully the dungeon won't respawn.

I have my house in Whiterun all decorated now and it even comes with a bedroom for Lydia and an alchemy table. No enchanting table though. I have to run up the hill to Dragonreach to use theirs. Since I'm a Whiterun thane they seem happy to oblige.

Right now I'm working on upping my enchant and heavy armor.

I came across my first bugged quest that I can't complete - placing a wapred soul stone into dwarven convectors and heating them up.  Guess I'll just hold onto it until it gets fixed in a patch.

Still trundling along, although I've continued a little further down the main series of quests.  I've slowed down at levelling a lot, and am at lvl 44 at the moment.  I thought I'd see a lot more daedra running around than I have - but I haven't seen any that haven't been summoned yet.

I was thinking of changing my style of play, and going for as high a spell resistance as I can, and spending more time in melee and improving my armour skills, but if the resistances have been reduced, I'm not sure I want to go down that path!

I have a major, major problem.

Last night npcs were looking at me funny-like but not the same as when they all mentioned I looked sick (which took me days before I learned to look in the magic menu for negative status effects). This time I looked, no negatives.

Hit F for first person view. W.T.F.!!!! An arrow is stuck in my head!

Ok, no problem, I feel fine so it must be in my hat. Removed the hood, looked again. WTF, the arrow is still there. Could it be stuck in my hair?

No way can I play for the next 50 levels or 100+ hrs. impaled by an arrow. Even if I don't look at me, I'll know.

Do I start over with a new character? [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]

If someone can explain how & where to upload it, I will gladly take a screen shot.

Maybe just try and sleep it off? Or wait for a couple of 24 hour cycles?  I know Lydia had a frost dagger stuck in her neck for quite a while. It would go away and then return and then go away. Finally it disappeared.

Yapette, I upload photos to photobucket. Once you have a photo uploaded there, you'll see a dropdown menu. Choose "copy link". Come over here and start a post. Click on the "insert image" and you'll see a little box where you can paste the url. You can see the pic before you post the reply.

Slept 10 hrs so I could take a pic in daylight…arrow still firmly in place.

Discovered I have an ancient never-been-used Flickr acct, uploaded the pics to that. First time I tried to post a link, all I see is a tiny icon, not the pic. This is my second attempt.

OK, Flickr doesn't allow direct image posting or something yada something, let's try a link to the Flickr page.

Ta-da, that works. There I am with my ugly green face enhanced by arrow.

I think I need a new me. This one is ugly and I don't mean missing rosy skin and golden locks. I loved me in Star Wars: The Old Republic where I was yellow ocher with brown spots on my head dangles (a Twi'lek ).

Jarrod, you having any problems on PS3 yet? Like I've said, I think I'm around 80 hours in. My save file is in the neighborhood of 6MB. Nothing yet, but I wouldn't be surprised. The longer I played Fallout 3 and New Vegas the worse they got with crashing.

This problem must be pretty widespread, because after scoring it a 9.5 IGN are now openly declaring Skyrim (on PS3) a broken game and essentially calling for some heads to roll at Bethesda. It's all a bit dramatic, but even a slobber machine has rules, so they must be barking with some truth.

After saying I wouldn't join them, I've joined the thieves guild. I feel a bit dirty and awful, and tempted to erase all I've done for them. It's sad when I walk by NPCs and they tell me I have some nerve to come up to them.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yapette, I can't see your arrow in the head character. Did you look for the arrow under the Attire menu? Maybe it's a hat.

That horse I found standing by a dead bandit? I took it for a ride along the coast. When I got off to fight a mudcrab the horse levitated then zipped back over the horizon like it was shot out of a cannon. I went back and found the horse and tried again but this time it just started walking back. I jumped on and then off and wham, bam, boomerang horsie. [Image Can Not Be Found] I do love Bethesda, but sometimes the weirdest shit happens in their games. (Luckily, only one crash so far on PC at 65 hours. I have my fingers crossed. New Vegas was pretty much crash free for me, though Fallout 3 had its share of nasty CTDs.)

Poor Yap. I have to laugh.

Thank you, Toger, I knew when I posted that link was difficult to see (faint blue? can't links be bold black? [that is not a link, btw])

Had to laugh at myself, the perpetual Elder Scrolls Re-starter. Especially when I hate replaying content so I never replay games. I'm on my third character at lvl 1.

With Star Wars early access starting 12/20, I'm wondering if I should stop playing Skyrim. Wait for the inevitable face mods once the Construction Set/Creation Kit is released in January. No matter what I do now, my female character remains painfully butt ugly.

I can't tell by that picture, Yap, is your pain-immune character a Nord woman? My wood elf is particularly gruesome looking, but I think the frightening look suits someone who can shout like a dragon. Elves seem to have always been lacking in the looks department in Elder Scrolls games, but if you ask me it was the Khajiit and Argonians who looked the worst in the past, even still in Oblivion. In Skyrim they finally look fantastic, in the classic sense of the word (the only way I use it, dammit!)

Ah, yes the famous TR invisible link. It really is annoying.

Yapette, I think your character looks hot. Much better than those star wars worm heads…[Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found]

I don't know why Bethesda is holding up the construction set. Though if anyone wants to make a flying horse mod, I'd be the first in line. I want levitating back. It would be esp. awesome in Skyrim, zooming around the mountain peaks. Dropping apples on the archmage's pointy head.

EDIT: Here is a work around for arrows stuck in heads in Skyrim, which apparently is a known bug.

I have an arrow stuck in my head and it won't come out.

Scout, Scout! Thanks! Thanks to you I will: a) avoid replaying content a third time and b) be forced to play with (Ugly) Frowning Green Face (xtal, she's an elf of some sort other than the red-eyed variety). Or not. I downloaded someone's starter save with a decent Breton face. Alas, this will/would be my 3th Elder Scrolls game as a female Breton due to alternate racial uglies.

My head-snakes female had (beta characters don't carry over to release) the cutest lil' face. With that face I could ignore both her teeth sometimes appearing outside her mouth hole and her head dangles which might be mistaken for giant dreds if one sits far back from the screen & squints. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Damnation! Tweak, tweak & more tweak. The infamous Tweak Guide by that guy came out today. Here's a link which I *was* reading earlier but now it won't load. Maybe overwhelmed by thousands of players such as I who need. to. know.

Sorry about the links, folks, they seem to have gone all not-underlined again. We've got a platform changeover coming up and I'll add that to the list of stuff that needs done when we migrate.

Scout - Yes!  Bring back levitation!

xtal - I don't think things are getting too screwy with my game.  My save files are around 7.5mb at the moment.  The game has frozen twice in my time playing (close to 60 hours now), so that's not too bad, considering.  One bugged quest, one dragon flying backwards, one dragon I killed didn't evaporeate nor was lootable, and my mask often disappears, leaving me with an empty hood on my shoulders.  All-in-all, I don't think those are too major considering the time I've poured into the game.

I've moved on from Elder dragons to Ancient dragons.  They pack a bit of a punch, but can be dispatched in much the same way as other dragons, it just takes a little while longer...  I've been sticking with the main quests for a little, and met the leader of the Greybeards, which was pretty neat.  Oh, have you guys noticed that when dragons crash into the ground, they leave big mounds of dirt in their wake?  I'd seen the dirty trails before, but thought nothing of them, then I fought a dragon this morning, and as it crashed, a trail of ground destruction erupted in its wake.  Very nice touch indeed.

Oh Yap,

I just checked in and saw the picture of you with an arrow in your head.   If I had an arrow in my head,  I would be very concerned and so I can understand why you might be.  I have no advice.  Recall,  I was a character in Oblivion who became the Arch Mage while essentially knowing no magic at all.   But I will remember you in my prayers tonight and hope that arrow doesn't lead to migranes.

Another vote for Levitation! Spent most of MW skyborne wearing my constant effect pants.

Watch & grin.

This video illustrates why I am proud to be a gamer.

Edit: thanks for your prayers, Kay. They must have worked as the arrow disappeared from the very save in which I took the picture last night. Retro-active power-of-prayer, awesome.

I spruced up my face using ~ and showracemenu but couldn't actually change my race as the resulting stat changes would crap my save. With patience, in another month someone will probably have a beautiful face mod and I can do a real makeover.
