I got Blink and then headed out on my first mission. Did a quest for Granny Rags to get a rune but didn't like the sound of the second and I had been warned about her. I did head over to Dr Galivan's to see what I could loot. Now I am trying to find my way to Campbell. Went into an underpass and got attacked by rats and no way through. I did free Griff in that area. His prices are so high that I was ready to lock him up again. I can't find any way around the second light gate, so maybe I'll have to find a way through it.
Later...I did get through the light gate and rescued Martin. Now to get past the tall metal gates. I have level 2 Blink and level 1 Dark Vision
Ack! I have Campbell in the chair but I can't find the branding iron. It is not in Archives and the instructions say it should be stored in the interrogation room. I wanted to go the non-lethal method but I may have to kill him if I can't find it. I enjoyed the last part of the mission with the stalking and then choking all the guards in the mansion. Reminded me of Thief.
Of course I found it right after I posted. I didn't realize there was a second floor to the interrogation room. Searching for bone charms before I return to Samuel.
I am really enjoying this game and yes, Blink is wonderful. I finished House of Pleasure mission, though I did have some trouble finding my way around. I visited Granny Rags at the end and all the Weepers in her area were dead. Wonder what happened? I did see some guards running that way, so I guess they killed them. Made it a lot easier for me.
I got Emily out of the place early and then looted and got the combination from the artist. I took the stuff from the safe and then gave Slackjaw the key. He didn't complain. I had a lot of cash to buy some upgrades and more sleep darts. Heading out on the Sokolov mission.
It took me a long time to get across the bridge and shut down the searchlights. I was very confused on where to go next. I am at Sokolov's place now.
The bridge part was great but so confusing for me. At times I was turned around and heading back. I was mainly on the bridge deck, though under or over may have been easier. I didn't even see the spotlights till I turned around and looked back. Then I used the small platforms to climb.
Sokolov's place was hard in the first area. They kept seeing me.
The party was fun and I talked to someone who told me who Lydia was very early on. I sent her off on a boat ride but I see I missed a rune right next to that area. I accepted the duel and got the guy with a sleep dart before he could fire.
I climbed to the top of Dunwall Tower and talked to a mechanic but I can't find the moat that he said would make it easier to get around. The Tallboy makes it hard to explore. Maybe I can find a rat to possess.
Turns out I was standing right beside the moat. Used it and am inside in a ventilation shaft.
It's been fun, but now nearing the end in the last mission. Just have to get in the lighthouse. I was just above where the lifeboats are located, choking guards thief-like fashion as they come down the stairs from the roof, when I noticed my pile of six guards was actually two. What is happening? Are they respawning up above? This could be a never ending cycle!
The flooded district was unpleasant but managed to get through it. I just stole Daud's key and got out of there. He was too hard choke or use a sleep dart on. Instead I made use of possession of a rat. I took the easy route in the Tower as well after trying to get through hordes of guards.
The home base was crawling with enemies, which surprised me. Once I got in the pub, it was much easier.
I started playing this game a little bit the other night. I'm still trying to decide how to play it: controller or mouse/keyboard. Other than that, I found the beginning pretty underwhelming. Cardboard cutout characters and contrived conspiracy plots. Also reminds me too much of Bioshock (not in a good way). Still, I'm willing to give it a chance (I haven't even escaped from the prison yet).
Rule #2: Double-tap
Ah, the old controller versus mouse/keyboard dilemma. I'm experiencing the same thing with The Bureau - every time I settle on one, it feels like I'd be more comfortable with the other. In the end I still don't feel quite right sitting in front of a PC in a home office with a controller in hand, so I tend toward the MK. And usually that works out fine. But my affinity for consoles, particularly the PS3, has grown so much in the past three years that I often prefer that model. I'm pretty sure that when I build my next PC, it'll be based on some sort of Steam Box concept, essentially an uber-media center out in the living room, and I'll just keep a more regular one for "work."
Botch, the great strength of Dishonored is the setting, particularly the visual mood. It does have a bit of cardboardery to it, but Dunwall is so entrancing I suspect you'll get past that soon enough.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
OK I started over and made it out of the prison and through the sewers. Things were going well and then I entered bizarro world and met a creepy dude and got some magicky powers and a beating heart. Didn't really see that coming.
Now I'm on my first proper mission. That Granny Rags is even creepier than the Outsider.
The powers almost make this game feel broken. I'm just getting started and I feel nigh invincible, in a good way. Who can hope to best me when I can teleport around and slow time and turn people to ashes and see through walls? Who would ever even bother equipping the pistol again after getting all these other cool toys?
I appreciate a game with confidence enough to start slowly. And now that the candy store has opened I'm really digging it.
Rule #2: Double-tap
Anyone know how to get through some doors that are flat on the ground near the hound pub? I think there's a key, but don't know where they are. There are two runes now, but they seem to be underground somewhere. Man that alley looks like city-17
edit: I just got the mission for the weepers, and was handed the key so there you have it.

Yeah I remember that, I did the exact same thing as you Helmut "There are things down there so I must get down there! But how?!" "I can't progress any further until I get down there! What if I don't come back here? Or the items disappear later?" "Oh, the next mission allows me to get down there, derp."
The end stretch is most definitely the worst part of Dishonored; by "end stretch" I mean everything after the point where you're captured and dumped in that river. Before though there was some great stuff; going after those two brothers (it was two brothers, right.. I forget) capturing Sokolov, Kaldwin's Bridge and, my favourite, the masqued house party.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
