They also have this highway called the Deerfoot, I think, and it’s like Canada’s version of the autobahn. They also coat the outsides of their houses in stucco. And it snows in July and there are sometimes heat waves in the dead of winter because of chinooks.
GOD DAMN, I LOVE CANADA
We don't have enough stuff like that here in the States. We don't have poutine or Chinooks. Well I guess we do have Chinooks but whatever.
Tonight, though, tonight I will play Dishonored. That bridge is my bane! I will descend on Anton Sokolov like a Chinook Wind!

Alberta is Canada's Texas!
Played a little last night and manged to get inside the tower foyer. When I left off, Corvo was sitting on the ledge like a vulture trying to decide who to pick off first... which is pretty much what I was trying to figure out. Think we'll pay the State Torturer a surprise visit, first. After all, revenges solves everything.

I just watched Yahtzee's review and I'm filled with shame. Like him, after I saw that loading screen that said "if you're a big meanie shit will get real yo and there'll be rats and stuff," I started playing nice in an effort to reduce the chaos and get a Good Ending. But really I want to stab people in the neck. And now I'm conflicted.
Xtal, you finished and I didn't read your spoiler, did you get the Good Ending? Was it worth it? Should I go back to my neck-stabbing ways?

Ya well it ain't all that. -5F to 70F in one day in February (See Winter Olympics 1988) is nice if all you like to grow in your yard are shitty Aspen trees. Weeds with leaves really. And Stucco'd be nice if the houses were designed for it properly and didn't luck out from an arid climate that can hardly rain. When it does rain you get shit ugly rain stained stucco mess coloured acres of subdivisions all tied together by the 'Autobahn of the West' which is a great idea until it snows 4" and the city has 300+ accidents and traffic is pushed back to 466th Ave South.
Good riddance.

hmmm, maybe it's more like Arizona?

Steerpike, I've just started a new game where I'm going to be a mass murderer, so I can see first hand how advantageous stealth really is. I'm still a bit conflicted; I think the draw of a game like this is challenging yourself to play the hard way, which to me is stealth and not being seen (outside of the first 2 missions, the rest of the game I got "Ghost" and "Didn't Kill"). It did seem somewhat less satisfying playing through Coldridge just murdering everyone, but now that the game proper begins I've taken the Shadow Kill passive perk, so I'm hoping that makes it fun. I'll still go for stealth, but I won't have to worry about hiding bodies.
And I'm going to be totally ruthless, I'm going to kill every single person the game allows me without fail.
From what I gathered, it's not just that you get a more cheery ending (which I did), but when I arrived at the final mission it said "Kingsparrow Island (Low Chaos)". And it may just have been me, but the mission seemed relatively easy for the most part. Guards weren't vigorously patrolling, but mostly standing with their backs open for extended periods. My thought is that's the intended design for a low chaos play-through, where I figure for high chaos you'll have more city guards, more tallboys, and they'll have wider patrol areas.
I won't be able to confirm until I get through the entire game again; but I should do it much faster than the 20 odd hours the first run took because I've made a deal with myself that I won't reload my game for anything except deaths; first time I reloaded constantly because of damn perfectionism.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
Spent the last week in the Flooded district (xtal is correct in its boring-ness). Finally took out Doud... non-lethal, of course. Took me a while to figure out the best way to take him down since he had that guard in the room with him and any noise brought in more assassins.
What worked was possessing the guard, walking up behind Doud, releasing the guard, choking Doud while the guard puked his guts out. The guard recovered faster than I expected so I was forced to kill him to keep him from calling in reinforcements. Ooopsie!
xtal:
With regards to Samuel: I don't fault him for the betrayal as he did what he could to negate some of it. Could he have told me about it? Maybe. But, I get that choice would have been especially dangerous for him. I totally expected the other three to do what they did based on the Admiral's journal entries.
I've more or less stopped going out of my way to collect bone charms and runes as I've upgraded everything that I use/need.

By the mission of confronting the Lord Regent I also abandoned the search for bone charms and runes mostly. Which upgrades did you go with?
I took the following: Blink 2 (who wouldn't? best ability in the game by far!), Agility 2 (looking back, Agility 1 would have sufficed, as I only cared to jump higher, not run faster (I was in sneak mode 85% of the time, to which Agility 2 didn't apply)), Dark Vision 2 (I waited till the end to go to 2 but it turned out to be more useful than I expected - second most essential ability in the game), Bend Time 2 (so, so, so good, it's never uncool to stop time completely) and simply because I had leftover runes, Vitality 2, but since I never engaged in combat, this was entirely useless. Would only be worthwhile if you play as some kind of blundering brute.
On Daud:
That was a really tricky room, it took me many attempts. In the end I blinked to the top of a book shelf in the room, waited for Daud to light a cigarette and for his guard to momentarily turn his back, blinked behind Daud, choked him, froze time and choked the guard in the room. Without freezing time or using sleep darts I don't think you could handle that situation non-lethally. I liked how freezing time before dealing with Daud actually backfired on you since he too has the powers Corvo does.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
I went with pretty much the same as you with one exception: I took Possession 2 simply because I had the runes to burn. Becoming a rat and/or fish came in handy as I got in/out of a couple of places using it. You're right in I never really needed Vitality 2... except for the couple of times I fell from a rooftop. Clumsy R Us.
Possessing Daud's guard was the first time I used it on a human because I'd already tried stopping time and possessing him, to no avail. I should have suspected he'd have the same abilities.

I forgot about Possession. I took that also. The only time I possessed humans was Kingsparrow Island. Somewhat useful, mostly just fun though...it took too much mana to use, which is why I liked playing the game mostly using only Blink and Dark Vision, they both refilled your whole bar if you waited a few seconds.
The idea of the rat tunnels was neat though, I saw them all throughout the game, so it's great that there were even more options.
I wonder if Arkane will try something similar again or move on with their next game. With a bit of polish I think they could attract a good chunk of the mainstream playing, say, Assassin's Creed games. Dishonored didn't quite compare to them in scope, but what it lacked in some of the grandiosity it made up for in focus. Personally, I think Dishonored could have been even more stripped down. Still, it's left me thinking about it a lot, which I can only say for about one in five games I play.

I think the Boyle mansion party is where the game really picks up steam; all missions before required mostly patience and some skill, but this one ramps up the skill and quick thinking required, in my opinion - report back at once with your thoughts, SP.
Edit: Actually, thinking about it now, this mission was the most Thief-esque in the game. Prowling through bedrooms and stairwells knowing you were inches from being caught ... hmmm thrilling stuff.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
I liked the party mission because I didn't spend the entire time skulking about!
Finally, finally made it out of the flooded district. I hate the sewers (I got lost during the underwater bit), hate those freakin' river crusts and weepers who appear out of nowhere due to noise. Granny Rags is a confirmed nut job.
I'm back with the loyalists.

I finished the Boyle mission last night. Loved it. The extravagance of the party was great. Listening in on the conversations, slowly getting closer...
...I also like that the nonlethal options for the main target have a very sinister vibe to them. I went with it for the Boyle mission - I figured this lady hadn't done anything terribly evil (while the Pendleton brothers deserved to die for their treatment of Emily). Still, I got a very "Boxing Helena" vibe to the nonlethal option. Both it and the nonlethal fate of the Pendletons made me think that in both cases, the parties involved might have preferred to be dead.

It's really difficult to resist the temptation of reverse-engineering those Tesla coils to fry baddies, isn't it? During a non-lethal go-round that is. I did it a bunch of times just to hear their screams, then reloaded of course.
Tip to developers, who I'm sure are all reading this thread: for all of your console games where you choose to allow a manual save option, make the damn Select/Back button a quicksave feature! Some game did this, I forget which, but it was wonderful. I quick saved every 10 seconds for no reason other than I could. A quick press = save. Hold it down, it brings up a simple yes/no quick load prompt.
You're welcome.

I rewired one of those Arc Pylons once. It was evil fun for a minute. You, know, revenge for frying my ass with the self-same Arc Pylon. Then I reloaded.
So xtal, when you got to the top of the lighthouse:
Were Pendleton and Martin alive? In my ending, Halverson had killed them before I'd gotten there and was just ranting/raving at their bodies propped up at the table.

Same for me.
Unless I misjudged the situation it looked like he poisoned their drinks. I left him alone and explored the whole area before dealing with him ... it was odd that there were still items to collect in the roof area and rooms above it. Unless playing the game with high chaos causes you for some reason to go up there ... it's just items sitting around that are essentially after the endgame point. Weird. But yeah, like a response I posted earlier (maybe here, maybe Jakkar's post, I forget?) it ended abruptly, to my slight disappointment.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
I started this yesterday and have made my way through the prison and the sewers and am resting up at the pub. My biggest problem was trying to jump over the counter in the prison. After many attempts, I realized the window was closed. The game looks great with my upgraded computer. Should be a lot of fun. I am trying to play a stealth game.
