Since everyone else is playing XCOM, I'm sure I'll be talking to myself
Haven't gotten far - spent 2 hours getting out of prison and have just now gotten to the sewers. My plan is to go full-on stealth... barring Arkane deciding otherwise. From the little bit I've seen, I'm getting a Thief, Bioshock, DX:HR vibe, only steam punk. Where else will you come across a clockwork bomb? I'm still getting used to the controls (360 - don't judge me) and have gotten stuck on scenery a couple of times, but I think that's more me than the game as I've never been good with 1st person view.
It's pretty.

Two more hours and I'm out of the sewers.
The rat swarm. Ewww!
Every body I found I approached with trepidation fully expecting them to suddenly appear behind me... Like slicers. :shiver: I've met with the loyalists and been fitted with my metal mask.
When do I get my powers? I want power, people!
I accidentally killed a guard - really! It was accidental! - I took him down with a sleeping dart and the dope fell in the water. Oopsie!l

Met "the other"? The "unknown one"? Whoever. The point being I've got Blink, finally. Found some runes and picked up Dark Vision and the higher jump ability, as well. I think I'll save Possession for later. I'm in the midst of my first quest, but have been sidetracked by one of the optional quests - granny bags wants her "gentlemen callers" to leave her alone. Completed that and she wants something else, of course. I have what she wants, but now I'm not sure if I should give it to her. Bad things could happen... Decisions, decisions.
Note to self: do not carry unconscious bodies where people can see you. Silly NPC.

Yeah, I'm still getting my head around stealth and making the best use of that blink power. I've got that upgraded, done all the sidequests in the first mission, and actually killed my target - but I left so much of his big office complex unexplored I think I'm going to try it again.

Okay, gotcha.
I'm amazed you have to hold a button for that - especially such an inconvenient one for long-term holding. Or do you just need to hold it when you want to lean?
In general this game feels like one that would play well on a console, though Arkane did a really good job with the PC options. The way you move, the most important powers, all seem like they'd work hitch-free on a game pad. Possibly even more hitch-free than with M&K; I'd love to have more than one power and one weapon active at a time, though I only have the two hands.
Impressions coming today, time permitting.

You have to hold it when you want to lean. I can "scooch" up fairly close to boxes, bales, etc and stay hidden without holding it. Now that I think about it, using Dark Vision pretty much negates the need to lean out and look as that power allows you to see through objects and you can see guards and their field of vision.

The PC system requirements are crazy. 64-bit XP is supported but 7/Vista (64-bit) are recommended.
What's weird to me is that the high requirements don't seem necessary. I have a pretty solid gaming rig but not top of the line these days, and I don't think Dishonored has ever dropped below 59FPS when it's capped at 60... and that's with everything on and maxxed out. I have friends who're holding off on buying the game because they fear they don't meet the requirements. Part of me wants to say "you'll probably be fine," but I don't like to do that because some games just won't start if they detect your hardware doesn't cut the mustard, even if they'd run fine.
I wish they'd release a demo so people who are on the fence could test their rigs.

I'm still in the first mission. Cleaned out Galvani's residence; in doing so, I've discovered a little trick for taking down 2 or more roving guards: it seems when a roving guard goes missing (due to his having been subdued and stashed in a closet, trash bin or dark hidey-hole) another guard will take up his patrol. So, I camp out in the same place I bagged the first guard and pick them off like sitting ducks. I can wait all day for that!
And I'm getting better at aiming Blink. So much so that I was using the tops of the light poles to travel across some areas.
Steerpike, since you're ahead of me, mayhaps you can answer this question: I forgot about a rune near where the boatman drops me off for the start of the mission. Can I double back for it? Will the missing guards respawm? I've just released the captured loyalist on the other side of the second light gate.
Pokey, grab the game for PS3? Then you won't need to worry about system specs? It's definitely Thief-y.

Togs, I'm pretty sure you can double back at any point within the mission - I'm not 100% sure, since the switch from the streets to the Overseer's Compound is kind of... bigger seeming, but I'm betting you can.
So far as I can tell guards do not respawn, not even zone to zone, and are broken into two types: those who have a basic patrol they stick to, and a handful in each area that seem to have the run of their zone. Their sudden appearance can make it seem like they respawn, but I don't think they do.
The rune by the Boatman is tricky to get using all stealth; those guys dumping bodies really command the area. Be careful!

hmmm, I may backtrack for it, then.
Last night I continued forward and got into the main building in the Overseer's compound by entering through the sewers. Yum. The sewers were far cleaner than the damned kennels! Found a note about a loot stash in the kennels and had to walk across a bunch of dead dogs to get to it. ewwwww! That was damned creepy.
In opening the incinerator door, I noticed there was a swarm of rats in there. When I opened the door, I jumped up on the pipes, waited for the rats to leave, looted the room and then left the kennels thinking to double back to where the guards were dumping the bodies. Only I got distracted... came back to the kennels - completely forgetting about the swarm of rats! - and got a mite chewed before I realized what was happening. Thank the stars for Blink!
Did you find Campbell's secret room? I did. If I'm understanding one of the notes correctly, Campbell needs to be severely punished. With extreme prejudice. Vengeance solves everything.

I did find his secret room, observing it first by entering through the sewer as you did. The assassination objective is really cool in this mission because of the decisions you have to make. I managed to achieve what I think is probably the best possible outcome, but it took a lot more effort.
Rat swarms suck. I have had limited success tossing corpses near them, so they go to that rather than at me, but they strip a corpse so fast that you don't have much breathing room.
