I'm finally at what I believe is the top of Tai Young Medical.  That was fun getting to this point. Lots of challenges and I especially liked laying mines in the path of the roving turrets. There was a woman who locked herself in a room and I have a problem now with a hoard of guards entering below me. Nothing I have tried has worked very well but I have more tricks in my bag. I wish the game had some real armor. I'll try the dermal armor and see if it helps.

Edit: I didn't try the dermal armor yet but got by the guards with mines, grenades and vents.

Toger, after the fact, I read how you handled the situation. That never occurred to me and it would have been so easy to do. I was expecting the door at the top of the stairs to open. Next time I'll investigate the possibilities.

I'm in Montreal.

I think Mat mentioned this earlier, but I love how there's so many different ways to handle situations in this game!

I'm getting back to this game after more than three months and it is a bit hard remembering all the controls. I got Taggart to talk and met Sandoval. We just left Detroit and crash landed in Hengsha. I'd like to save Malik but my ammo supply is really low. I do have grenades and will try that. Why is it so hard to get ammo for my pistol? Lots of revolver and shotgun ammo available but I don't have either weapon.

Later...I couldn't save Malik. Just not enough time and it was sad to see her body later on. I was lost in Hengsha as usual but I did remember where the weapons dealer was. Of course He didn't have squat. In the sewers now heading for the goal.

Pokey, I was able to save her only during my second playthrough when I was not so lightly packing. There are some large enemies that attack the copter soon after you load in the area and you need to take them out swiftly. Emps and gas are great for this if you have some. I was able to alternate sniping the snipers and nade'ing the ground forces in quick succession and that did it for me. I tried laying down a bunch of mines, but one (if memory serves) tends to blow the others up if they're too close together.

Helmut, maybe some heavy weapons would have helped in the rescue but the game didn't give much time to accomplish it, especially with all the enemies around. I finished up Hengsha, doing just one side quest, the corporate one, was a stowaway on a ship and am trying to rescue friends in Singapore.

I tried several times to save Malik, but was never able to move fast enough nor did I have the heavy weapons necessary as I usually only traveled with the stun gun and silenced pistol... and I very rarely, if ever, had (enough) grenades on me.

I think they made that scenario way too difficult for most players. I've found that there are usually different solutions for tough situations.  When I was heading toward one of the scientists, I had to cross a large room with a couple troublesome guards. After trying to sneak directly across and failing, I realized there was a stairs just around the corner that easily bypassed them and I also could have used cloaking to get by. I don't use cloaking enough. You can even pass through laser panels using it.

I picked up that big laser rifle in Hengsha and am saving it for a boss. Now if I can just figure out how to use it. I'd better practice before I really need it.

I've defeated Jaron, but it was a struggle. Lots of running. I used two weapons and about all my grenades but finally took him down after many tries. I hope he is the worst boss in the game because he was pretty tough. Now to rescue Megan.

Well Pokey

You are tempting me and make me wonder.   I guess I have to give this game a try.  Kay

Kay, I enjoyed it since there are many ways to play it. You can sneak or blast your way through. As a last resort, I just ran. The guards will only go so far, unlike Thief, where they would never give up. Use cloak when you get it. It comes in very handy. There are areas of the game where there is no conflict, so you can just explore.

I think I missed a big section of the game. After seeing Hugh Darrow, I went to the broadcast center because it was the only thing listed to do. I evidently missed Taggart, though I heard a message after climbing some stairs, but there was nowhere to go except for the broadcast center. I also missed Sarif. Guess I'll head back the way I came and see if I can find them before I go to the end game.

Okay ya'll * ahyuck dunce * ... I am playing DXHR finally, yes! I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this game a lot, but let me tell you: this type of game is HORRIBLE for someone with whatever level of OCD I have.

The first mission (not the tutorial) probably takes the average person 1.5 hours to complete. It took me somewhere from 4-5 hours. Dammit, I secretly loathe when a game gives me the ability to drag bodies around to hide them. Even though I know there are no patrols that are going to walk and look behind this couch here I just feel that it's not good enough, and I have to drag every body from across the level into some storage closet. And I have to hack every single computer and do it perfectly. Ugh.

I'm going to try my best to fight these compulsive urges, because it actually hinders my enjoyment of the game somewhat. Aside from my own difficulties, it's a lot of fun.

Oh, two things: Adam Jensen's voice = lol. Really? How do you speak so low and raspy constantly and take yourself seriously, dude?

Second thing: WOW. When I heard about this really terribly portrayed black character I thought it's probably a thoughtless overreaction, because video games somehow warrant those. Wrong! Leiticia, or however you spell her name... OMG I actually cringed when I heard her speak. That was a really poor choice whomever let her dialogue and particularly her accent/drawl/whatever slip into the game. That's exactly the kind of shit I don't want to be on my TV screen when "real life friends/peoples" are around me; such a terrible stereotype of black people (and southerners, or wherever she's from I suppose) and an unfortunate opportunity for detractors to lambaste games. Oh boy, I really hope I don't need to talk to her again. At least you make her happy by giving her beer rather than buckets of chicken.

If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever

xtal, you obviously don't know enough black people who make their living snitching to the cops in exchange for beer. laugh

I wasn't offended in the least simply because I realize that some of my peeps do, in fact, speak that way. It may be a stereotype, but alas, it's based in some truth. Some of us may cringe, but whatcha gonna do?

I did manage to find Taggart and Sarif but I had to check online to get their general location. Seems like I should have had an icon for them. I finished the game, which was rather easy, and saw all four endings. I don't know what that was at the end of the credits. I ended with seven praxis points unused. Glad I had some when I hit that bridge near the end and was able to program the turret.

I really enjoyed the game. It is the kind I like to play. If there is another Deus Ex in the future, I'll be getting it.

Downloading now. I didn't think I had this game and went to buy it but it's in my library. After all this time, it feels free.

Seems like there is a small contingent of Tappers playing this now...at least xtal and Pokey and maybe kay. I haven't played anything since Witcher 2 so my combat skills are rusty to say the least.

You are going to love it, Scout. I bought it last February when it was $10 and finally got around to playing it. You probably bought it at the same time.

Pokey, I think I did buy it then. If I remember it was a killer sale.

Finished the prologue and signed out at the helicopter. Reading the comments I remember they farmed out the boss fights. Hopefully I'll be able to keep my ire under control as I do love me some Deus Ex. Hard is fine but dumb is dumb.

My first air vent! I'm trying to sneak through the first facility. Just figured out how to use the map and what that little arrow/number at the top of the screen means. I can see how enticing it would be to sneak through this game. Starting to get a handle on the different ways to move around in a crouch, hopping from box to box. I killed the four guards right at the first entrance but have been sneaking ever since. Spending a lot of time watching guards so far. Trying to find different weapons, etc.

Just finished the first boss battle. I took Mat's advice and got the Typhoon augmentation and maxed it out. One frag grenade + one shot from the stun gun + one Typhoon, repeat with stun and typhoon and bye bye monster-fist guy. I'm in Hengsha now. I think I've maybe shot a total of 6 NPCs so far. Mostly using silent takedowns, stun gun and dart gun. I did max out my inventory so I could experiment with weapons a bit.

Good move, Scout. Typhoon can get you through the boss battles even if you're almost all stealth otherwise.
