You can always pick it up once the battle starts. It's just that you're usually otherwise occupied. You might be able to pick it up and crouch behind it while aiming, but Jaron always tends to throw a lot of grenades and you usually want to be somewhere else rather quickly when that happens.

Turret: 1; Jaron: 0; aka "say hello to my li'l friend."
Dragged the turret from the atrium down to the lower level and inched it carefully out the elevator so as not to trigger the cut scene. Angled it slightly to the right as that was my intended "kill zone." Swapped out my stun gun for the combat rifle (alas, I'd only been carrying that since my arrival in Singapore so I didn't have a lot of ammo for it; hence my need for automated help). Lobbed an EMP grenade, fired off a couple o' rounds and ran and ran and ran. Somehow I managed to keep Jaron on the inside of the walls, while I ran around the outside. Keeping Jaron behind me after throwing a gas or EMP grenade made him visible long enough for the turret to track and fire. Took me 4-5 tries to get it right. Yay, me!
The cutscene with Reed: I'd forgotten Jensen had eyes! If it'd been me, I'd have locked her lying butt in a closet somewhere and gotten the scientists myself. Do not trust that girl, Adam. Plus, I'd known from the beginning her big "secret" as it was telegraphed in the opening cutscene.
I'm in Panchea. Jensen doesn't have a lot of luck with flight, does he? Chute failure?!

Anyone else get a Bioshock vibe while in Panchaea? I think it's the discordant music and the whacked-out worker bees. I keep expecting the dead bodies to jump up and attack me while my back is turned.
Got the code from Darrow (the Andrew Ryan of DX) last night. Skulking around in the lower tower I completely missed seeing the robot "dog" until I flubbed hacking the security hub. How do you miss something that big? [Image Can Not Be Found]
Had to laugh at the placement of the LIMB clinic. Nice bit of dialogue to explain its being there.

Fini!
After the difficulty of defeating Jaron, the final battle was more denouement than boss battle. That final room reminded me of the scene from Chronicles of Riddick (movie) on Helion Prime when they're using those creatures to probe his mind. Creepy.
I admit that having to deal with the mobs of crazies annoyed me more than anything. Most of the time, I'd either skirt by them (if I could) or gas them (if I had gas grenades); however, that final bridge full of them was the final straw and I ended up programming the turret to take them out. Expedient, but not how I'd been playing the rest of the game.
I ended with about 5 praxis points left to distribute. I would have had more, but I applied points thinking I'd need them for the encounter with Jaron (typhoon) and never used them.
I watched all four endings and even waded through the credits for the final scene. I knew Reed was trouble. I'm assuming that's the lead-in to the original DX? (I've not played either of the others)
All in all, I quite enjoyed myself! Now I can concentrate on Skyward Sword.

I have started this game and am really liking it. The first Deus Ex was one of my favorites. Just got by the first boss. I gathered all kinds of weapons and ammo thinking it would be a tough battle. Then I got too close on the first try and he grabbed and pummeled me. The next try, I hit him with a grenade, a couple explosive barrels and finished him off with a few shots from my sniper rifle. I was surprised when he died. The room with the turret just before the boss was much harder. It took me forever to clear. I'm back in Detroit and looking for an arms dealer.
Toger, I love games that let me be stealthy, so I am doing that as much as possible. The tranq gun comes in very handy, though it is hard to use most weapons since you die so easily. I did have to do that in the last big room, but later I found there was a much easier path. I am busy clearing up the side quests in Detroit before we head out again.
I invested heavily in the tranq rifle early on, before I saw its shortcomings (enumerated above by Toger), and by which time it was sort of too late to switch to something else nonlethal. For this reason I generally just pummeled people into submission in order to save the inventory space.
Later on I went all Man on Fire because of a certain incident and the idea of being nonlethal fell by the wayside. You know what doesn't take up much space and has a great range? A 10mm hand cannon, baby. Pow!

The stun gun looks like it would be useful. I haven't found one yet, so may buy it. Right now I am mainly using the pistol with several upgrades which make it even more effective, also the tranq rifle, and the combat rifle. Nearly done with all the side quests in Detroit but will check out areas to see what I can find. Maybe the armory in the police department. So far, the tranq rifle has worked out well for me but am using it less as time goes by.
I got my stun gun from David during the flight to the warehouse in answer to the questions about whether I wanted to go lethal or non-lethal; short or long range... unless I found it in Jensen's safe. Or, I could have gotten it as part of a pre-order perk.
It's a shame my brain is all mushy.

Pokey, without spoilers I'll say this: everything bad you've heard about the boss battles is true. You're still a little ways from the first one, but in general I'd recommend keeping a few spare Praxis points on hand, or investing in Typhoon, or at least knowing your way around a large weapon, so as to spare your sanity. The combat rifle should do the trick but it'll take you a few tries. Hang in there.

Steepike, I have already defeated the first boss without much trouble. I am back in Detroit after the FEMA building. Are the rest of the bosses any harder? The sniper rifle worked very well against the first one. I had the combat rifle as backup but didn't need it. I agree with having a few praxis points saved just in case.
Apologies! I didn't realize you were that far along.
If you've seen one boss you've seen them all: massive firepower is the only solution, be it Typhoon or a mega-gun. Other variables have effect, but in the end it's about ordnance. A significant disappointment in an otherwise fine, fine game... but not enough to be a dealbreaker.
Looking forward to further adventures!

Not necessarily. I took down the first two bosses using the stun gun only. It was satisfying to say the least.

I finally made it to Hengsha. Detroit took a lot of time finishing up the side quests and checking out the town to make sure I didn't miss anything. I think I found every shortcut and collected a lot of weapons to sell. I did the penthouse in Hengsha and just finally found a way out of the Alice Pods after dying dozens of times in my wanderings. I had left my upgraded pistol in one of the storerooms on a side street and didn't want to lose it. I have 10 praxis kits even after getting just about everything I wanted. Off to the Tai Young Medical building next.
Edit: Seems I have to finish up all side quests before I can go to Tai Young.

Really? Wow! I can't imagine.
Pokey, you're past the first boss now but I owe you a self-facepalm. For some reason I'd forgotten all about the loathesome first boss and described strategies for the loathesome second one. Though I must admit, given Toger's revelation, my advice may not be that good to begin with.

It was Helmut who clued me in on the stun gun:
Something odd though, this time the first boss was felled after a stun gun shot. I thought the stun gun was a strictly passivation tool, but it must do some damage as well. I had a bunch of stun gun ammo, so I alternated between stunning and more traditional forms of damage.
I couldn't manage swapping weapons so just stuck with the stun gun.
