Country hey? India and China would have to be the highest... or are they nations? I get confused easily. Anyway, marching along in ignorance, let's say South Africa, Mexico, and... um... Japan?

China, India, US, Indonesia and Canada. (Canada always gets short shrift.) While searching for books recently I came across Canadian History For Dummies. My first thought was "Huh?" Then I thought "Well, duh, of course Canada has history." I have a friend in Toronto, and even I sometimes shortchange Canada. I mean, Poutine, come on. Who wants to eat french fries covered in cheese curd and beef gravy?
So I'm adding Canada to Jen's list in hopes of making Canada feel a bit better about itself.

There's a place here that does poutine with duckfat. Expensive but one hell of a lunch. The curds add texture, no real flavor. It's a very Jen meal and…
You've got it Jen! [Image Can Not Be Found]
The top twenty in order are China, India, USA, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Russia, Japan, Mexico, and then a bunch that surprised me: Philippines, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Germany, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Democratic Republic of Congo and Thailand.
Canada is #36 with a population matching that of a couple of the world's largest cities combined.
The old USSR would've been in the top five. India would be the largest had it not been carved up in the 40s.
Vaguely related, this is a great time waster: http://projects.nytimes.com/ce.....rer?ref=us
grooowrrrr! [menace menace] rrrrowwwr!
Wow, no effing clue, but that's cool. I'm going to stick with the South American theme and guess ... Chile?
And trust me, everyone, poutine is fucking brilliant. I live within a 7 minute walking distance of 3 shops that specialize in poutine. Two of them have "Poutine" in the name of their stores. The word "poutine" is apparently not even a word on these English-bastardizing American forums!
French fries + cheese curds + gravy is the greatest concoction of all time. Here are a few variations for the adventurous types:
- Pulled pork poutine
- Bacon poutine
- Curry chicken poutine
- Montreal poutine (this includes shaved Montreal smoked meat + mustard + topped with a dill pickle)
- Chili poutine
- Nacho grande poutine (tomato salsa + sour cream + guacamole + jalapeno peppers)
- Country style poutine (chicken breast + double smoked bacon + sauteed mushrooms + caramelized onions)
It's good soul food. By that I mean it's good for the soul, but not the heart.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever

I'm so sorry if I offended you, xtal, or any of the other wonderful Canadians who are a part of the TAP family (Oh, Helmut. Where are you?). I guess poutine is an acquired taste. If I'd grown up with it I might love it too -although I would have given it up before now in the interest of cutting my total fat intake (how boring is that?)
I, myself, love, LOVE cabbage and brussel sprouts cooked in many ways, but noone else in my family does. To each his own.
I shall now go praise poutine from my rooftop! [Image Can Not Be Found] And maybe, just maybe, I should go buy a copy of Canadian History for Dummies as I am clearly in need of it.
