Southeast Asia has me stymied.  All I can think of is manzanilla, as in olives, but they couldn't be an official fruit in Asia, could they?

Not common in US stores? I would have thought since the Dr. Oz show began airing that every "weird" fruit formerly unbeknown to US citizens is now readily available.

I'm gonna take a wild guess ... Togerfruit?

Togerfruit is never available in stores.

And only because I just saw this in the grocery store: horned melon

Was looking for mangosteen, official fruit of Thailand. Jarrod was half right twice over because mango is half the Anglicized name and it is distantly related to the mango. Picture here: http://www.bangkoktourguide.ne.....m (scroll down). I'd like to sample mangosteen but doubt it'd compare to a nibble of forbidden Togerfruit. There are samples worth being cast down and out.

Horned melon is cucumber bland with a touch of sour but they look super cool when cut open.

Two unmatched halves make for success when I'm out of clues so take it away Jarrod!  [Image Can Not Be Found]

There are two types of acetylcholine receptors (in neurotransmitters), each is sensitive to a relatively common substance - what are those two substances?

I have no clue   [Image Can Not Be Found], so I'll guess sugar and salt.

Jarrod, you must have come across one of your old biology textbooks in your unpacking.    [Image Can Not Be Found]

haha - no, I just found this interesting back in the day when I was studing, so it kinda stuck.

One of the substances, and the activity to 'ingest/imbibe' it is pretty common.

The other is a little less common, and it is illegal to 'ingest/imbibe'.

And I realise that I suck at asking questions, I usually go either too hard or too easy [Image Can Not Be Found]

Ok, no takers - there is a muscarinic receptor (that's sensitive to magic mushrooms, which is why you trip on them), and a nicotinic receptor (that's sensitive to nicotine - ie cigarettes...  that's why you get all keyed up when you smoke).

In the original Tron movie, Flynn comes across a small being where he quips, "great, another mouth to feed".  What was that creature?

SOooo many years since I saw the movie that I remember little.  How about PacMan?  Would have been the right era.

Hmm shoot, been forever since I saw this.  I am going to guess Sark.  Though I think that was a character and not a creature.

While I would love to have seen Pac-Man in Tron, I don't believe he made an appearance (unlike Mickey Mouse's silhouette).

And Sark was indeed a character, the main bad guy, and sheriff of the MCP's digital Nottingham.

This creature/thing could only reply with two words, 'Yes' or 'No', if that helps.

I'll guess with a random word in my head:

Oomingmak.

xtal is that really a word?

Ok, it's name is based on the most basic digital element of storage.  Anyone else want to take a bite at it (see what I did there?) before I scuttle the whole she-bang?

Really, I thought there'd be far more Tron fans on Tap...

Tron was at least 25 years ago.  Cut me some slack.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

I do know, however, that the word you are looking for is "bit".  If there was a character of that name in the movie, I surely don't remember it.

(Having typed the above, I'm hoping that your  "take a bite"  wasn't meant to evoke "byte".)

Jarrod, I highly doubt it's a word in the Webster's sense. But you'd have to ask Elizabeth Fraser: it's the name of a Cocteau Twins song. It makes me envision an evil (more evil?) Oompa Loompa.

[Image Can Not Be Found] Spike's right, it was called a 'Bit'.  A bit is the most basic element of a 'Byte' - if memory serves, 8 bits make up a byte.  They can function as either 'one' or 'off' (or ones and zeroes).

There are two bits in Tron - one is in a tank with Clu, Flynn's orange tank-driving program, and another comes to Flynn's aid when he pulls together a recongizer, giving him (very limited) advice on how to fly the broken thing.  It was a flying orb that changed shape depending on whether it was saying 'yes' (an orange pyramid thing) and 'no' (a red spiky mass).

Incidentally, I believe the original Tron was one of the first movies to make such drastic use of CGI.  It was nominated for special effects, but was disqualified.  Sadly, in the day, they felt that using computers for special effects was cheating.

@ xtal - work looks like Oomygod at first glance [Image Can Not Be Found]

Thanks Jarrod.

On December 3, 1967 Louis Washkansky, a patient at the Groote Schurr Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, was the first human to undergo a successful type of new surgery.  What was that new surgery?

Another December 3rd first:  Georges Claude first exhibited two 39' (12 meters)  long, bright red, neon light tubes to the public at the Paris Motor Show in 1910.  Prior to this time, small tubes were used in scientific experiments in labs, but Claude gave the public their first look.
