My momma always said “itch.io is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you’re gonna get”. She wasn’t wrong, but thanks to some handy search tools it’s easy to get some real treats. This week’s treat is Totemori, a local multiplayer… uh, tot’em up? Tot’em up. Yeah, that sort of works.
Joel Goodwin of Electron Dance and I see whether it all stacks up.
Totemori is just lovely. It’s local multiplayer-only for up to four players and you can even create teams. Vicious bots can be added too and there’s a very welcome option called ‘clumsier bots’ for kids. It’s a really well rounded and beautifully presented package that’s free. As in, monetisation-free free. I discovered it on itch.io but it’s also available on Steam.

“stacks up” oh my god gregg
Bwuhahahaa, yup!
This game looks delightful and adorable, I love it! It’s so nice to find a free game that has such good production values and depth. I could see Totemori being a huge hit at a semi-drunken party, particularly with a very large display.
I was watching The Good Place the other evening and a character said of croquet: “it combines the two greatest elements of British sport… whimsy, and restraint.”
Side by Side also has ample whimsy and a surprising amount of restraint. Those are some intense games you guys play! How do things never get physical during heated matches, when you’re sitting side by side like that? An elbow to the ribs can go a long way toward a victory…
