Edge Games has released a public statement regarding the Edge trademark infringement fiasco, and though it’s unpleasantly formatted there is a lot of interesting reading there. In the meantime, the IGDA has finally acted, as a corps of disillusioned members (using somewhat less than unsleazy means) finally got enough signatures from members to force a special meeting, the purpose of which is to discuss the removal of Tim Langdell from the IGDA Board of Directors. Beloved-of-TR-Industry-Reps Darius Kazemi and Dustin Clingman will serve key advisory roles on the panel that’s been formed to figure out how to arrange the meeting (there’s nothing in the bylaws yet that sets out a procedure, so we need a meeting to figure out how to meet).
This is likely to get uglier before any pretty materializes, and the debate continues to rage. Tap-Repeatedly, your source for three to eight day-old news, stands ready to keep you informed.
What can I say, I was on vacation.
I’ll just say what I usually say in these situations: your trademark law is crazier than a bag full of recti. Then again, seeing people bring military grade firearms to political rallies and this merely being an exercise of one’s constitutional rights reminds me that it’s not only the trademark law that could use some rethinking in the ol’ US of A. Anyway. Being allowed to trademark such a common word is bizarre. But this article here sheds a lot of welcome light on the issue http://ezinearticles.com/?You-Can-Trademark-a-Lot-More-Than-You-Think&id=453370
