I mean the other '... ". I'll have to find out how much a 15 foot HD TV costs, just to redeem some coolness. I shouldn't even try empirical short hand, the metric system has messed me up for life.
And for some reason we still have the 'quarter pounder'.

O Great Playstationius, we are greatful to have you with us again.
And praise to your servant, EB Gamesicus, for their bounty and having Borderlands for GOTY for $48 over the weekend.
We are truly thankful and blessed.

I've been shopping my game collection of late and have been playing, in no particular order, Pandora's Box: GOTY edition, Grim Fandango, Ballance, and Switchball.
I last played Pandora's Box a decade ago and I have game saves for Grim Fandango that span the decade. Maybe this is the decade that will bring me to the end of Manny's tale. 🙂

Me and my girlfriend are playing it at the moment and we're struggling. I hate the controls, I hate the inventory 'menu', some of the puzzles have been downright obnoxious and we've absolutely no idea what the story is doing. Disappointing considering how long it's taken me to get back round to it. All the best with it mrlipid!

Well, it's hard to say anything good about the controls or inventory. (And the alternative of driving Manny with a joystick seems very odd.) Some of the puzzles remind one of why that genre of game is no longer as popular as it was. The story is not helped by being stretched out with the previously mentioned puzzles. All that said, I love the world (art direction, set design, etc.) of the game, the voice acting in the game, and the musical score. There are moments (Lola at the lighthouse) that are incredible. Looking forward to finishing it and, perhaps, playing it again much more quickly.
I use cheats in adventure games like I do god mode in shooters…as rarely as possible though if I'm stuck, I use walkthroughs gladly. One of the reasons I think puzzle-based adventures died was so few devs could balance puzzle difficulty with gameplay. In most games you get credit for playing. You get more and better skills, better weapons, more party members, etc. The pay off is concrete and directly connected with gameplay. With puzzle adventures it's often just one puzzle after another with no other reward than the next puzzle. You never get to that point where you feel you're becoming the master and not the mastered.
I think one of the most balanced adventure games I ever played was Discworld II though it's been so long since I played it I can't remember why I think that way. I did write a review of it for FFC though.

Mm. Grim.
Awkward, yes, but there was something about Manny wiggling his little legs as he bounds around the Land of the Dead that made that control scheme worthwhile. And however awkward the inventory, I always prefer an atmospheric solution such as sorting through his jacket pockets to a gridded field and menu.
I am not sure I could beat Grim Fandango today. I simply don't have the attention span I did at the age of 12. I am too easily bored now by repetitive gameplay mechanics, however beautiful the art and story. I wish this weren't the case.
Good call on Discworld 2, Scout. I recall a similar feeling about it, it just.. flowed. It never ground to an unbearable halt and made me bored and angry as Monkey Island could. I never, ever want to traverse an entire island USEing GIVEing PUSHing and TALKing to everything, with everything, upon everything. Ever. You can't make me. NEVER.
I think best of the point and clicks, though, is Monkey Isla-.. No, it's FULL THROTTLE, and NO-ONE CAN ARGUE WITH THIS.
The lips are the same colour as the hair, implying they are in fact some kind of keratin sheath for teeth far longer and sharper than we expect. There are orange stains under the eyes - I'll take this to mean beneath those shiny white shields the eyes are the soft blue of the melange addict.
I'll extrapolate from this that mrLipid is, at all times, riding a sandworm.
