There's a status bar of some sort in the lower left corner?! I should really pay attention to the HUD. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Well you certainly are a big fat damn help! [Image Can Not Be Found]

My mods change how leveling is calculated and completely overhaul the HUD so what you see isn't what I see. But that status bar is somewhere for everyone, I think. Only it's not shown in the manual's HUD pic although everything else on the screen is.

I'm always here for you. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I'll have to closely examine the HUD next time I play as knowing when a weapon is about to bite the dust would be most helpful as I'm not used to the whole weapon's-degrade-over-time mechanic. That's too RL for me. Remembering to open my inventory and actually look is too much work. Like trying to figure out my fame. Or my standing with the average citizen. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Getting advanced in the repair skill was critical for me and it was the only thing I bothered to buy training for. The problem with repair is that you need something damaged in order to repair it, and that means fighting and letting yourself get hit so that you can get some damaged stuff.  Getting to that essential skill plateau (40 skill points?) where you can repair magic items was a real PITA.

My only foray into the point of no return endgame was cut short because I forgot to stock up on repair hammers. I had 57,000 gold pieces and when I crossed the dimensional barrier to save the world some ass-bucket back home had forgotten to pack the hammers?

The last few times through the Oblivion gates, I was a runner. With enough endurance you can skip most of the combat just by running. Once you get out, don't sell the stones! The gate stones are a great source of magical enchantments for items. Better than anything you can buy/make for a long time. But if you go this route, you need to be able to repair magic items or you just create an expense for yourself.

I have no problems getting hit. If this game were about just getting hit, I'd be level eleventy-hundred! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Now, if I could only convince mine enemies to stand in one place while I hit them, I'd be on to something.

Thanks, Helmut. I went the repair route in MW. For my lvl 1-12 foray into Oblivion last year I figured what the hell, I'll be rolling in gold so let blue collar blacksmiths do the dirty work. Guess that won't work in lengthy dungeons & gates, huh?

Never forget....I'm running mods that change what annoys me. My rate of weapon degredation is not the same as Toger's. [Image Can Not Be Found]

In MW I also crafted magical stuff & created spells. At lvl 12 in Oblivion, never got where I could do better than drops. I am loathe to go the crafting route again as all the possibilities, plus stacking effects, paralyze my ability to decide. Maybe I'll try to simply the process by pre-planning one mighty shock (?) (paralyze + shock?) staff and one mighty fire-based spell. Fully cognizant that I'll be royally screwed facing shock or fire resistant foes.

A merry good evening to everyone.

Last night a door in Fort BlueBlood kept closing while I was killing the Boss. When it does (a known official glitch), the door won't reopen by any means while insisting it needs a key (which does not exist).  After reloading & killing the Boss 5x (even trying to delay his auto-conversation by invisibly running by him to get through the door), I was near despair. Finally, thankfully, using a code to insta-move me outside the Fort worked.

Now, tonight, I seem to have caught the Anvil Bug. I cannot exit the town via gate or access the harbor by foot without crashing to desktop. I have been here before with no problems. What I have done in the 30 min. before these continual and persistent crashes is complete a step in a major mod (Kvatch Rebuilt) and begin the official add-on Knights of the Nine quest line. Something in there contaminated my 1s and 0s.

Or, it could be that in my long ago, prior visit to Anvil when I threw twelve human hearts in the grass in the Anvil Bay area cuz they crashed my game everytime I tried to sell them at the inn next door that I crapped up something. No clue where I got 'em, most likely ages (and levels) ago from someone who attacked me on the road (Tamriel Travellers).

Within the 30 minute save I can't use (or else live forever within Anvil's walls) I reached lvl 7. [Image Can Not Be Found]

You know, I had a lot of crashes in Anvil on the 360 version of Oblivion. It seems to be a buggy town.

Twelve human hearts?? Yap, what have you been doing in that game?

She could tell you, but then she'd have 13 human hearts. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yup, 12 human hearts: 000000000000

Gathered from inventories of mod-created npcs. As a poor newbie I figured to make a quick profit. Now they are scattered on the grass. Last night when I re-picked them up to re-dump them somewhere out in the wilds, I crashed on teleporting out of Anvil. If that won't work after I fix crashing, Plan B is put them into a container that periodically resets. Thus destroying them forever. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Steerpike, after seeing via forums my problem wasn't unique, I wondered how 360 players deal with repeated Anvil crashes?

Sometime, very very late, while reading what shoulda, woulda happened if I play Knights of the Nine instead of biting the bullet/saving my sanity & simply uninstalling....I realized the add-on pack might be borked. 1) I should have met & talked with guards outside the Chapel but there were none. 2) inside the Chapel was plenty of blood but not a single body. Yay! KotN (a notoriously buggy official add-on) is the probable evil doer.

The biggest problem I recall having in Anvil was the game freezing on the load screen as you tried to enter a shop near the town's main gate. I also noticed that objects would often disappear from my inventory when I was in Anvil.

During my PC play of Oblivion I almost never went to that city - I was a Cheydinhal resident - and so never experienced any problems.

Welp, the computer&monitor moved to the weekend house with me.

Current house temps @ 86F as the central AC unit fan went kaput.

Two dinky window units normally used as “assistants” when we arrive for weekends are currently laboring to partially cool two small rooms.

T—-> 4 hrs —->maybe a save that won't crash if there's even a mention of Knights of the Nine.

How many AC repairpeople who will work in an attic fixing an AC when the temps outside are 96F (where the attic is probably 20-30 degrees hotter) do you think fit on the head of a pin? Anyone?

Many hours later, no happiness in Tamriel. Still crashing randomly after minutes of play. Although I can manage to get into and out of Anvil now. Knights of the Nine+patches & Kvatch Rebuilt remain suspects. 🙁

This is beginning to become a game within a game within a game. I fear you are going to get trapped in a wormhole soon Yapette, doomed to play ever more resistant iterations of Oblivion for all time. Sorry to hear about all the bugs with this sucker. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I am still OK with Oblivion.   Moving along.  Working on quests.  Trying to upgrade my skills.

As I listen to you all I know I am a novice at these kind of games.

But for now, I am enjoying myself so I will keep going.

Countless hours, one hundred and thirty new saves, and four obsessional sleepless nights later, I may be able to continue by rolling back to a save three days before my fatal CTDs. Still suspect negative synergy between Kvatch Rebuilt & Knights of the Nine. As soon as I begin one then the other, I start to crash.

However, last night's obsessions produced a new hypothesis. Streamline settings allow players to set cache purgings...mine does so when entering a new area. Which on reflection, means purge upon using a city gate. Bingo! Crash to Desktop! Today I will mess with Streamline.

Steerpike, if you read this, I am considering a column about mods....not the problems, but perhaps which, why, how. I won't review them as I don't enjoy value judgements. Right now I'm thinking about names: Moderately (something) or (something) Moderately or (something) (in/with) Moderation. Cart before the Horse (name before content) as I wish to delay indefinitely writing anything. [Image Can Not Be Found]

That's a great idea, Yap! Think of this Mod column as a further step on the thousand-mile journey away from the dark memories of your thesis. The people of our villages will sing songs about you!

Will they sing the songs while drunk or sober? There's a difference in meaning, you know.

Both.

I maintain that once I get the time to set up a Tap-Repeatedly podcast, we should all do at least one drunken recording. Perhaps we could all sing songs then!

Helloooo, anyone out there? I have a gaming question.

In Wrye Bash (creates patch merging many mods & other stuff) I opt to wear many rings & amulets. That ability conflicts with another option to show rings over gloves &/or amulets over robes/armor.

Except, I used to have a lovely (mod) amulet showing. I was also running another multi-amulet/ring mod before I learned about the Wrye option.

So, googling about, some players advise turning on a setting in the “CS.” Finally, my question: whatever is “CS?” Never heard the term.

Won't help me as I must either reinstall the mod & hope jewelry appears or (heaven forbid) wear only 1 amulet & 2 rings. For sure, I would like to know of what this thing CS.
