As to what Fink is saying, one of the charming little quirks with Morrowind is that none of the npc merchants carry any real money on them. They all have what we would call "chump change." This leads to the player holding onto anything worth more than 2000 gold as no merchant will have enough money to buy the crap off you. Mods that give merchants more money help this a lot!
As for companions, it's not until Fallout that Bethesda games get regular companions. Prior to that, you only got short term followers who either got stuck in things, got lost, or died a lot.

Eeeek, you guys are so far ahead of me. Can I count the game as played & finished when I get all these mods installed? [Image Can Not Be Found] I'm still trying to rejoin (read as relearn how to play) Divinity 2: Ego Draconis where I left off almost a year ago. My brain can only be stretched so far.
I did find a notebook (of the paper variety) where I listed all that guy's mods & checked them off. Which means somewhere I have them. Former main house now-at-the-lake computer has both old XP and new Win7 hard drives. I betcha the mods are there cause I sure can't find them at home. So far. But I'll keep looking or start downloading all over.
…
Thanks for the list Armand, great guide for finding the best of the best. (seeing as how you've done all the work!)
Yap, do you use Dropbox? The free one is free and the paid one is worth EVERY PENNY if you use multiple computers. I've never tried installing a game on it, but it's just a folder so theoretically if you installed MW there and did your mods there, both your PCs would remain synced. The beauty of Dropbox is that you're working locally and it syncs up whenever anything changes. If Dropbox were a girl I'd marry it.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

Steerpike, I signed up for Dropbox a couple of months ago thinking it would solve all my problems. Then seeing how puny the freebie size, I didn't go further. Archiving MW or Oblivion or Fallout3 mods takes more GBs than freebie Dropbox. Over 5 years of commuting I've accumulated alternate methods (thumbs & Passports & burning disks). Maybe time to rethink.
I don't understand registries & game installations & external drives. I have WD Passports (external drives) that could be carried from house to house. How does one install a game to C: drive (registry) with files actually on another (like say an internal E: or an external)? And could the game then be installed to another computer C: drive but use the orginal external files? I think not.[Image Can Not Be Found]
All of above are reasons I am trying this MW install on a notebook. With a skinny widescreen aspect ratio the original MW would not have dreamed (of).

Back to mods. Sorry all, but I'm going to use this thread as a place holder/resource & just maybe Armand the Expert will suggest mods to meet my needs like he did with a "Move Your Butts" mod. [Image Can Not Be Found] (breath)
Comparing "that guy" (must come up with a better name) & Armand's and my wish list, I need the following personal Game-Breakers:
Remove Cliff Racers (this I can find)
Regen magicka faster
Time mod to slow down day/night cycle (I see that guy has a ring mod which would mean I'd need an Unlimited Ring mod)
Unlimited rings & amulets (definite cheat)
No glow enchants
Join all houses (guilds)
Real signposts (or similar to read signs)
Months & Days into English from Tamrielish in the menu (T)
Leveling Mod - can't stand vanilla, assume there are mod options
Robes over armor
Magic regen mod

I'm not sure about the join all houses mods. I didn't know there was a limit. I have a lot more experience with the guilds though than houses. I found this one, but don't know how good it is.

As for leveling mods, you are on your own there. I have my share of problems with the Morrowind leveling system, but stick with it as it has it's own charm. Don't blame u for wanting out however, as it is a giant headache.
As for installing identical sets of morrowind game/mods on two different PCs, it may just be more trouble than it's worth, but here is how I'd go about it.
Copy all mods into the data folder of the first install. This doesn't include self installing mods with exe. extensions. Then copy and paste the entire data folder to an external hard drive, and replace the data folder on the second computer with the one including all your mods. Once this is done, install all the self installing mods on each computer individually (in case they effect content outside of the data folder.)
It may just be more trouble then it's worth though. If I were you, I'd just play the game every other week and avoid the headache. : )
Good luck guys! Morrowind was a lot of fun, but as I played it on xbox I never got around to modding it. I created a little house and did some other basic modding tutorials in Oblivion, which was fun but far too time consuming. On a slightly different note, I saw a mod for Oblivion that recreated the world of Morrowind, which looked lovely! They had pretty much all of the places and NPCs, but I don't think they had any quests in there.

Okay so last night after getting into a modding flap, crying to Armand over Steam and having a nice relaxing bath, sanity crept back in and before I knew it I was dual wielding Wrye's Mash, Yacoby's Reorder and the TES conflict detector. I even had some success ironing out a problem with a herbalism mod.
Now I've got the methodolgy down this seems more fun now. I was just getting really stressed on the learning 'hump'.
Armand, in the end I went with Galsiah's Character Development (GCD) v1.08 mod. It seems well documented, popular, solid and unobtrusive. As a newcomer I don't strictly know what I'm doing but I don't want to be backing myself into a corner because I chose the wrong things to specialise in – let me know what you think of this mod.
- Have NPCs ever stood infront of a doorway for too long? A 'move'
command will now be available in the topics list. If the NPC likes and
respects you enough, they will move out of your way.

I may add Armand as a friend on Steam if only to sob. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Why are we doing this again? I feel like I'm back in the days of early post DOS.
I used mods w/ MW (thanks SO MUCH for listing utilities, Gregg B, only one of which was familiar), and Kobu's leveling rang a memory bell.
Otherwise, I am overwhelmed. Armand, back in MW days there was nothing like "omods?" Mods seem to be .esp plus other loose files. Any way to convert to a tidy bundle (to manage) with the mod manager? What about pure texture files that get plopped in manually with no way to remove//uninstall? For Oblivion I converted those to (phony) omods….what are you doing?
I may be forced to take a mental day. Of rest. [Image Can Not Be Found]
BTW, I'll probably go with Kobu's again or the most basic I can find. All I want is more than minimum points for attributes without micro-managing what I must do to make it near max.
My approach to adding mods may not be as calculated as the two of you. For texture mods for instance, I just drag them into the data folder and hope for the best. 😀
So far it's worked out okay, minus the strange bump maps on all the trees and rocks (so need to deal with that,) but otherwise everything's worked out fine. I just backed up the data folder before installing any mods just in case it all went sour. Feel free to add me on Steam though Yap, and ask if you need any help. I will do my best, provided I'm available, though really, I'm no expert, just persistent. Not to mention despite the frustrations involved, I sort of enjoy the process and challenge of it all.
My steam account name is bluebogle.
Morrowind was wretched on Xbox. It was the first game I bought with the console, along with KotOR, and I thought it was absolutely the worst thing I'd ever played. I walked off a boat and picked up a pencil or something and some guards chopped off my head.
To hell with that then.
And that's not too different from how a crab ended my short journey in Oblivion. I was just not meant to find good fortune with The Elder Scrolls.
Side note/observation: have any of you actually ever a) played or b) completed Morrowind without mods? Can I then take that observation one step further to say: then really, has no one here actually ever played Morrowind proper? Ha ha, you silly gooses! [Image Can Not Be Found]
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
Oh yeah, I played the game through without mods twice over.Had no idea how modded it was until years later.
I also turn down the difficulty a lot when I play morrowind as it can be pretty unforgiving.
Finally, I unisntalled the game and started fresh with the mods based on the page Yap linked us too. I like how orderly everything there is, and am hoping the game looks even better when it's all done.

Me, me, me. Sorta. I did briefly add a companion mod but deleted it pretty quickly. It was just too annoying to bear. Can't you just feel the smugness oozing off me? [Image Can Not Be Found]
There are RULES in Morrowind, xtal. Rule number one is don't take people's shit in front of them.
This game can scar you. I still remember trying to escape the Ashlands with a flock of cliff racers pecking my brains out the whole way. Someone finally suggested I swim out. Duh.
