That really sucks, and it sure makes you question the agenda of a web site whose apparent purpose is to gather opinions and redistribute them in an easy-to-digest manner, not censor them. Readers can decide for themselves what to judge as "shock value" versus quality; sites like that should be regarded as guides, not tomes of sacred, ineffable human knowledge. Bleh … off with their heads.
It's also funny that the site was de-listed due to the infrequency of reviews, as if that somehow compromises the quality of them? Ha ha that's golden. The first thing I usually think when seeing an out-of-date or late review is Hmm, perhaps there was some care and thought put into this? Wouldn't that be something! ....That or Holy shit this person doesn't have a boss and deadlines! Maybe they actually enjoy life and/or playing games.

When I re-approach Marc I intend to take that very attitude. He'd prefer frequency over quality? Every day I read stuff from my guys (and gals) and thank my stars that greatness is more important to them than speed.
That doesn't stop me from relentlessly bullying them to post, but hey. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
xtal I thought GTA IV was so awful that I sought ANY bad review out there because I couldn't believe the critical world was falling over itself to praise it. There were a lot that bashed it for not being as fun as the others but I hadn't played the others so that definitely wasn't the issue. Steerpike's review was what I needed to believe there were still some sane people left criticising games because it highlighted many of my own issues with the title that for some reason had been completely ignored be nearly every other reviewer. It was incidentally the review that drew me to this site. Granted, I had to read a lot of Google search results to reach it but it was well worth it. I lost a fair few days perusing through the FFC review archive as well. There is some great stuff in there.
I didn't know Tap had been on Metacritic and Game Rankings actually. What a shame the site was pulled. I think I've seen Tap on Moby Games a few times.
I whole heartedly agree though with the quality over quantity thing, just take my example above. One thing I like to know with a reviewer is firstly who they are so that I can identify their work but secondly what other stuff they like, to gauge their tastes against my own. UK Edge magazine reviews are just by 'Edge' so I don't know the personality behind the words which are often quite sterile and sober anyway.
I ended up getting the PS3 yesterday. I bought the bundle with the HDMI cable, Bionic Commando and GTA4. BC is trade-in fodder, of course, but I'm not sure whether I'll trade in GTA4 or not yet. It may become a guilty pleasure - but some parts of it are just so tedious.
With regards to the games you guys mentioned, I checked out the local EB Games, Game, JB HiFi, Myer, Target, and Big W (the last three are department stores, I think, and I'm not sure whether you have them).
I couldn't find hard copies of the God of War Collection; Demon's Souls; or Folklore there to check out.
Uncharted 2 was still release price. Best deals for the others I could find was:
Little Big Planet, Batman Arkham Asylum, Valkyria Chronicles, and Motor Storm Pacific Rim for $50 (UD$42.50)
Dead Space, Heavy Rain, and Prototype for $80 (UD$68)
So if I can get between $25-30 for a trade-in on Bionic Commando, those other games quickly become achievable.
Others I saw and might be of interest are Mirror's Edge, Armoured Core 4 (I do love my giant robots), Riddick Dark Athena, inFamous, Force Unleashed, and Burtal Legend, all for $50 ($UD$42.50) or less.
I've downloaded a couple of demos, and so far Ghostbusters looks like a lot of fun. And I'm really tempted by a Mega Drive collection of ol' favs like Golden Axe (I love me retro too) for $40 (UD$35). And I get paid on Friday, so hopefully I'll trade in BC this weekend for something a bit more decent. Oh, and Magic Carpet from the original PSOne is like $9 (UD$7.50) at the PS Store - so I'll have to snap that one up for sure.
Thanks for your advice so far, guys [Image Can Not Be Found]

Jarrod, if you like action games that give you an incredibly over-powered player character then you would probably enjoy Force Unleashed. It's honestly probably a 6/10 game at best, but most Star Wars stuff that doesn't involve Jar Jar Binks and Hayden Christiansen gets a pass and ends up appearing better than it really is, these days. But hey, that's also why there are demos: try before you buy.
Gregg, if you go spelunking on Metacritic you will find Four Fat Chicks reviews nestled up against some old forgotten classic sites like Adrenaline Vault and Happy Puppy. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Demon's Souls may be tough to find in stores simply because Atlus was its NA publisher and they tend to do small runs thereby making their games a pain to find after the initial rush. If you don't mind going on-line, Play-Asia still has region-free copies available.
On Saturday, I was able to grab a new Valkyria Chronicles for $19.95 at GameStop. According to the clerk, it's been flying out the door since the new price point. Still no PS3 to play it, though.

Up until an hour ago, Gothic 2 NOTR.
I thought I was screwed as I hit an access violation at the end of the final boss battle. Fought it 5 times until I could kill the undead dragon in about 30 seconds. Finally thought to escape out of the boss dying movie which dropped me successfully back into the game so I could finish it up. I spent 88 hours total on this game! Not bad for 14.99 from Steam. That is 17 USD cents an hour.
Finally on to Dragon Age Awakening in the next day or two.
Fallout 3 - still. I've got about 510 hours in the base game, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and as of last night, Operation Anchorage. I still have The Pitt to get to. The base game and the 4 add-ons cost me $69. That's 13.5¢ per hour, and I'm not finished yet. What else besides games can give so many hours of fun for so little? Gotcha beat, Scout. I've been trying to find something to scratch my gaming itch ever since I finished up the Awakenings expansion. Everything seems to pale in comparison (I love/hate when that happens). So, I started playing Rune Factory Frontier (Wii)... it's Harvest Moon with dungeon crawling. We all know how much I [Image Can Not Be Found] Harvest Moon, so I should be happy for a few weeks tending my farm, wooing a life partner and killing/training monsters.

It's even worse if you frame it like this: Spike spent over 21 real time days wandering about in the wastlands of Fallout 3. Six months ago she'd have denied that even being the remotest of possibilities. [Image Can Not Be Found]
WoW does this at login, tells in the chat channel how many (24 hr) days spent playing. I avert my eyes so I won't know. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Alas, except for WoW, my interest in a game drops near zero after a mere 30 hours or so. Reason why my progress to endgame in Oblivion (+ Shivering Isles) has been draggin' on since last summer. A twenty hour game is way too short, but anything beyond 50 and I begrudgingly trudge to the final boss.
Nope, haven't explored all of main game Fallout 3 but I do still have it installed & backup saves archived for safety. And I will buy the DLC when I find an unbeatable deal for all four.
Still truckin' with DA:O - up to around lvl 12 at the moment - couldn't guess at my playtime... will have to see if I can find it when I get home. Still enjoying it [Image Can Not Be Found]

Because I'm lazy and don't want to start a new topic, I shall post here:
I just traded in my DSi for the DSi XL. Once it's done charging the battery, I shall report back. What I can tell you now is that the difference in size of the XL itself and its screen compared to the Lite/regular DSi is worlds apart. I may actually halt the "going blind playing hand-held games" affliction!

So what did you think of it? Does the screen seem a little less sharp? I could put up with a bit of that to get a much larger view. I checked one at Best Buy but they had the brain game loaded and it was hard to tell much about the resolution.
I honestly haven't had a lot of time to check it out. I did load up MillionHeir for about 5 minutes to see if I could tell the difference. (it's been so long since I'd played it, I couldn't tell. [Image Can Not Be Found] ) There may be the tiniest bit of sharpness lost, but I could be seeing thing. Now that you've reminded me, I shall check it out right now…. I'll be back.
*edit: I loaded Time Hollow: text seems to be the teensiest, tiniest bit less sharp, but the graphics themselves appear to be the same. I can live with that because I can hold the screen much further away and still see everything. It's about the weight/size of the original DS which I liked because I have big hands. I don't forsee getting hand cramps holding this one.
