Has anyone played A Farewell to Dragons? I did the first couple sections then stalled out. Playing along with someone here would be fun.

It's a party RPG. Steampunk fantasy. Bog cliche at the simplest but the story is odd and so far unexplained. The opening is amateurish drawings of the player rescuing a barely teen girl and bringing her to his apartment. No could can come of that, right? Instead of cops showing to arrest him the later freaks out and they run through the woods and end up in another world. She stays silent about what's going on and soon disappears. When she reappears she's apparently darn powerful and maybe not human. Everyone calls the player's character Lord and bows and scrapes in terror.

It quickly gets stranger. There's a treaty or taboo about messing with the Dead, who seem to be happily alive people on the other side of the river. People keep showing up and attacking (the fights are difficult from the start) and when defeated the player vacuums up their magical abilities and everyone alive bows lower in terror. Still no idea what is going on with the story.

It plays clunky, but I'm curious about the payoff. Any takers? It's on Steam; I bought it during the July deal. $30 right now.

You may be on your own with this one as Jen and Yapette duo'd this about six months ago over here.

I never got very far, either, mainly due to gaming lassitude. I'll play with you, Finky. Or at least make the attempt. I still have it installed and all of my game saves. I'll load it up later this afternoon and poke around a bit and see if I can pick up the thread.

Iam in Fang and have done one or two side quests. The main quest here is finish the air initiation. My guys are all level 12. My main guy, Victor, wears steampunk armor and uses a flamethrower of some sort. My real steampunk guy has mortars or something like that that lay waste to a buttload of enemies, but they are expensive to buy, so I only use them if there are enough enemies in the clump to make it worthwhile.

I remember now I quit the game because of the repetitive combat and constant inventory management. But it's fun again for however much longer...

Loaded it and level 9x3 & 8. Lead is sorta kinda tank, Outskirter has a crossbow, Rada sword & shield, magical jailbait has a sword. I'm sure there was a reason for that seemingly terrible decision, but heck if I can remember. Loaded game into combat with god knows what, air twiddling what-a-doodles, and she promptly went splat.

No hurry hon. Both got some catch up to do and some convincing myself I sufficiently want to see where this odd story goes to relearn all the slightly askew controls. We're in the same zone. I've probably got the same air quest but couldn't remember what the quest/journal key was and far too tired to care. Finished combat, picked corpses, saved & quit.

I played a couple of hours today and got my guys mostly up to level 14, nearly 15. The disappeared chick is back at a low level, but she stays out of the fray what with being a ranged fighter, so that's okay. I got a new chick who is high level, but I think she's temporary.

I got a couple of the more advanced skills, and they only show up in Russian on my quickbar. That is less than helpful!

In your zone now. Thought I was before. All around level 10 now.

Lost magical jailbait, gained steamgunner.

The combination was terrible. Run there->

Steamgunner sprints ahead, pisses off baby bears and dies. Main party runs as a pack, reaches and kills baby bears. Jailbait promptly sits on her ass for transcendental flight, showing up twenty minutes later. [Image Can Not Be Found]

The steam dude is one of my best guys! I put all of his skill points into mechanics and chemistry, and he now lobs bombs when he can (slow) and deals death with a chainsaw (super fast and meaty). But yeah, he was useless at first. I think I mostly just kept him out of the fray until he got some skills. Victor and the Outlander do well enough on their own.

My core four are at level 15 now. I also have two more, but I don't want to spoil ya. I am in a tunnel, and there are these enemies called Phantoms that are just brutal. They are fairly easy to kill, but they're hard to see. A couple of my characters aren't very well-armored against magic attacks, and they have gotten killed before I even knew what hit 'em. Well, not killed exactly, but you know... useless!

I played some more and got my main guys up to level 16. We're off to kill some monsters so the train can run again. I hope. That train so far has been pretty unreliable.

It worked! It really worked! I got a ride to Hunwhatever and am hot on the heels of the water initiation. The killing that needed to be done to fix it was brutal! Well, none of my guys got "killed," but we sure used a lot of resources. I had to start dipping into the potions, even!

One thing I like about this game is things once killed stay dead. No respawning. It sure made it a breeze to retraverse the tunnel.

Level 16s (Cat 17, delphic twat 13). Entered the zone to finish Water.

Magical jailbait is back for reals. Still infuriating, because everyone else has high movement so traversing any ground means five minutes of waiting for her or her not there if combat hits on the way. Cat woman joined and runs so fast she gets in trouble. This game desperately needs a way to lasso everyone to a group speed--or ditch the differences entirely.

Victor's still tanking, by which I mean he's well nigh unkillable, twice the health of anyone else. If they all go down he can slowly clear with moderate potion use, though it's not been an issue since I gave Steampants a machine gun. That guy kills half the mobs before they reach the party. Have to watch his health if flanked. He's the potion gulper.

I've put most points into passive abilities and improving armor usage. Otherwise there's far too much to track in combat with the lousy interface. It's a terrible game--really, put that barrel next to every spiral staircase so the drop is unlootable?--but I'm hooked. [Image Can Not Be Found]Its complete inability to tell the story of the world is strangely compelling.

I tend to put all of my points into offense. I wonder what that says about our real-life counterparts? I whip, you cower?

Last I left off, my guys were all level 19s, except for the weak sister, who is now merely one level behind the pack. School starts tomorrow for my younger, so my life will be in a minor uproar for the next week or so. I don't know when I'll be able to get back to the game. Soon, I hope. I was getting addicted.

I killed off all of the guys at the water college. That was hard to do. I also did the rest of the questing in that area and now have to go face down the water mage. I hope it's not as hard as the water college.

You whip. I wait until you tire, the better to have my way with you. So cute while you slept last night.

Mostly points defense/passive abilities and gear offense for my party though jailbait has infinite mana if she manages to show up before a fight ends. Not played since my last post. Been dorking around catching up on the current crop of indy games and Kongregate submissions (keep getting feelers for being a mod there; I'd rather stick my hand in a bandsaw). And playing more Warbands, though not the inifinite hours it shows--I leave the game running 24/7, pull up the window, play for fifteen minutes, wander off.

Now my guys are level 21. I beat the water initiation, which was beaucoup points and not as hard as I thought 'cause I was fortunate enough to hit it at the water anti-hour and hit 'em with bombs and flame, and then I beat another easy quest (one bomb, one fireball, 10 dead enemies) for another almost immediate level up, less than five minutes for sure. Was cool because a whole new pile of equipment became available to me at level 21. Now I await level 23 so I can get those uber skills at the top of everyone's trees. I have to go do some earth shit now to open up the earth part of Victor's skill paths. I hope.

I never slept last night. I was too busy inflicting pain and sowing discord [Image Can Not Be Found] Must've been someone else [Image Can Not Be Found]

I finished all of the initiations! My guys are all level 31 except the steampunk is 32 because I got him the experience-multiplier perk. They all have their most boffo skills available to them. Victor's skillset has a wee problem, though, in that his earthquake and firestorm spells will not cast. Kinda sucks, because I keep wanting to use them in those elements' respective hours of power, but Victor just stands there picking his butt. Not the first bug in the game but certainly the biggest!

Now we have to pass a test, which looks like it involves crawling through four dungeons. Fun, fun, fun!
