Is that where cichlids come from?

Sorry 'bout delay. Some lovely women yelled at–I mean gently reminded me–me for leaving this hanging.
Jen's close enough and on the hook. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Cichlids are the second most diverse group of fresh water fish, with an estimated fifteen hundred species. 800 species are unique to Lake Malawi. Another 500 unique to a second African lake. There's never been a full catalog of either lake and the numbers are probably on the low side. Think Darwin's finches massively multiplied. Instead of beaks changing, it's fish from two inches to three feet. Malawi is a Great Lakes size place where all parts of the ecology have evolved from one base fish.

PS Jen, if you knew the answer without searching to move things along, color me even more impressed with your delightfully corpulent corpus

I just watched Planet Earth 😛 and I had a fishtank once.

"Flim-Flam," "Gossima," and "Whiff Whaff" are all alternate names for a game whose trademark was first registered by Parker Bros and is now owned by another company. What's the game?

The Lake Malawi dive sequence in Planet Earth is swoon-worthy.

I've never heard/read those names before.  Whiff Whaff sounds like a game like badminton that uses something like a shuttlecock or birdie.  But since you said trademark, I'm thinking it must be a board/table game, so I'll go think about it some more.

It wouldn't be something like a precursor to Pong, would it?  Whiff-Whaff, Flim-Flam...I sense back-and-forth of something.

Someone suggested Badminton… how about Ping-Pong?*

Steerpike, you're right, it's Ping Pong. [Image Can Not Be Found] The name was originally trademarked by Parker Bros in 1902 and is now owned by Escalade Sports. I guess that's why they call it "table tennis" in the Olympics.

Thanks Jen!

This is a picture of the asteroid Apophis:

Apophis became notable a while back for possibly hitting us in 2029, though it now looks like the chance of an actual impact are less than 1 in 250,000. However, on the day of our close shave, Apophis will be visible with the naked eye, possibly even during the daytime. That makes it significantly closer to earth than  ________.

Svalbard? (You had enough dashes for Svalbard.)   No?  I'll think on it some more.

Not Svalbard either, though I'm totally moving there once I find a job and a house with wireless internet.

Looking at "close" in the other direction, do you mean Mercury?
