Spiffy new look, folks.  Clean, easy on the eye.  Nothing popping out at me.  No flashing fit to cause seizures.  Little if any pink - I hate pink.  I like it.

Thanks, Spike! And credit where it's due - our own Gregg B, graphic designer extraordinaire, created this swanky new logo for us.

I promise we'll stay away from pink. : )

DAMN! They don't like pink! My plan may take longer than first expected…

What's the third screenshot Matt? It looks like Omikron: Nomad Soul or Dreamfall, something like that. Hold on, is it GTA? G'ah. I don't know. Woe is me.

The forth screen shot, for a moment, looked like fire Mario attacking the Mother Brain…

After posting that comment last night on Lew's Fear Factor article I sat watching a play through of The Sword on Thief. Fucking hell, the level design is just unbelievable and I'd hasten to say Thief still looks, and most definitely, sounds great. I totally missed that section in Constantine's mansion where there's the miniature village and that giant oversized room. Shortly after that I loaded up XCOM: UFO Defence and restarted on the veteran difficulty: superhuman was insane.

Super Metroid is one of my favourite games of all time and so is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. So all in all, that little montage up there couldn't be any more spot on for me.

Hey, since the "Tap" logo links to the main site could the "4FC" logo not link to the forum home? It's always nice, clicking on big images rather than small text.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

Good eyes, Gregg, the third shot is from The Longest Journey. I figure we'll rotate them every now and then whenever the mood strikes.

Xtal, I have wanted to do that for a while now. I just need to figure out how. For reasons that are unclear to me, the forum software refuses to acknowledge that FFC graphic if it's hosted in the Tap filesystem, so it's actually hosted elsewhere. This may not come as a galloping surprise to anyone who's been around the site for a while, but I am, ah, not exactly the most technically proficient fellow in the world. So the general answer to any site change is "yes, we can do anything, but Steerpike needs to figure out how, and that will usually involve breaking the site, sometimes for days on end."

🙂

re: the TLJ image: Zack is such a douchebag!

p.s. Spike: every time I have looked at your forum avatar it has struck me with a vaguely familiar feeling, and I only realized where it was from this evening; sure enough I revisited what I thought was the source (a video in my favourites list on YouTube) and can see almost that identical image in it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....vTe1-a6Pdo

Best viewed around the 1:29 mark. I have no idea where or what that footage is from; only my mind relating it to the song played in the video, "Microscopic" by Gas. Can you tell me what that image is, and even where it's from? I mean, besides the fact that once the video zooms out I can tell it's in the southwestern region of Lake Michigan. I'm just wondering why it happens to be your avatar, and my curiosity is killing me…it just seems like such an odd coincidence.

xtal, yes, the Chicago lakefront.  I can't remember where I got the image, but it wasn't related to the video you linked to.  I think I did a Google image search for it.  It's been kicking around on my computer for about 5 years.

Why that image?  I was born, and grew up in Chicago.  I was allowed to wander alot as a kid - on foot, later on bike, then buses and trains.  I am a city rat.  Marriage took me away, and for many years I thought I really, really wanted to go back to live.  I've come to the point where I don't really want to deal with snow ever again if I don't have to.  That presents a dilemma, but trips back are good.  Specifically, I cropped that image to take in what I most love about Chicago.  The river.  The lake.  Navy Pier - which used to be a real Navy pier that you could fish off of.  It had a bait-tackle shop that smoked fresh caught fish and sold it.  Yum.  Marina City - the 2 circular multi-function towers on the north side of the river.  I became a teenager the year they were completed.  At the time, and for quite a while, I couldn't imagine that anyone would want to live in such ugly buildings.  Much later I learned that Marina City was a "first" in many categories.  Now I see them as icons of modern Chicago architecture much like the Sears (now Willis) Tower (yuck) and the John Hancock building (not quite so yuck).

So the image links to my past, but it also speaks to my future.  Those who need to know (it's in writing) know that when I die I am to be cremated and my ashes are to be dumped in the river off Wacker Drive between State and Clark streets.  That way I will travel inland (the Chicago river flows west FROM the lake, and not TO the lake as is most common), then both north and south when the river branches.  Since I am rarely mushy or sentimental, I see this as my final "Ha!  You couldn't get rid of me that easy!"

Thanks for the explanation.

Ahh, I'm yet to play that apparently epic game. Can't wait! Image rotation sounds good as well.

Spike! That's MY gauntlet! How dare you!? Just for that, you have to run the super deluxe gauntlet: [Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found] Pink is my favorite color!

Damn!  Now I've gone and angered the Queen.  None of us would be here today if Jen hadn't kept the lights on for so long.  I humbly apologize.  Now, like so many of my prejudices, the pink one only extends to me.  Pink is a fine color for all who love it.  Pink is the color of some beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  The color of blushing cheeks.  Bougainvillea.  Casual wine.  Ice cream.

Even so, as far as the super deluxe gauntlet is concerned, I'm running as fast as I can.   [Image Can Not Be Found]

Ya gotta tell us what games the images are from!  I only recognize one of the newest bunch, but a couple of others look interesting.

Spike, I thought it would be best to wait until I had Yapette's blessing before revealing anything. You never know when individual disapproval will force the complete redesign of a banner.

Left to right, they are X-COM, STALKER, Suspended, Metroid, Citizen Kane, and Morrowind.

Citizen Kane isn't a game of course, but you can't go wrong with it. : )

I don't know for sure but I have heard Yapette is holding out for 100% subsidized WOW subscriptions for life for all residents of Texas before she gives you an unqualified yes vote.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

My two penneth on the changes: I'm not a fan of justifed text. It just buggers the tracking up making words look oddly spaced out as it has with 'games' and 'media'. I'd prefer them right or left justified. And I know I've massively increased the tracking on 'repeatedly' on the logo but the other options looked a bit pants really!

What would the header images look like if they didn't have effects on them now they're less tinted back? I also like those cheeky single pixel white lines separating the images. Nice.

You know, I just couldn't keep up with the pacing of Citizen Kane and got quite lost so didn't really appreciate it as much as I ought to have. There's nothing like watching one of the most important films ever for the first time and wondering what the hell just happened.

Confession: I've not done it with any other game, promise, but I watched a speed run of Morrowind despite not playing it :-S I couldn't help it. It took something like 7 minutes to complete it. Absolutely ridiculous. It's here for all who are curious...

Scout, you took the words right out of my mouth (trite but true): bold pics balance bold TAP. I didn't say it but I thought it.

Funny you should mention WoW in the same sentence. Amusing because I can't count the typed-without-posting replies I have written (mentally or with keyboard) in response to Lewis B's Freedom Doesn't Exist article. Let's just say he hasn't met the WoW players I know who, like me, don't play as he thinks everyone does.

I'm watching your posts Lewis B.  🙂 So many strongly opinionated* writers at Tap-Repeatedly. [Image Can Not Be Found] Myself among them. What I have wanted to do for a long time is find a counter-weight to my opinions so we can create a Point/Counterpoint column. In the 70s (the olden days before many/most of you-all were born), 60 Minutes featured such a segment and I see on Wiki that Saturday Night Live did a takeoff. Great stuff, I love the fine art of argument.

Where was I? Oh yes, I approve the pics.  I have never disclosed, but my undergrad major was art.

* What tickles me about so many of the expressed opinions is the global, all-encompassing nature of the belief. Which for me is an invitation for pin-pricking.[Image Can Not Be Found]
