Or am I somehow not using it correctly?

I'm trying to find the thread on the Kindle (I know someone has it) and wanted to continue said thread. When I search for "kindle" I get the following error message

Fatal error: Call to undefined function sf_esc_str() in /home/steerpike/webapps/wp/wp-content/plugins/simple-forum/sf-header-forum.php on line 312

And this is not the Toger Effect! [Image Can Not Be Found]

edit: no caffeine yet, please forgive my title typo

Yeah, I've tried to search a few times recently and I get that too, Toger.

Hmm, a new Toger Effect.

I'll look into it.

EDIT: by "I'll look into it," I of course mean "I will ask MrLipid to look into it."

I get that too. Could this be that Steerpike Singularity I've heard whispers about? Or is the Toger Effect mutating?

Jen has one.

We have the capacity to search? Before? Now but unable to? I've always laboriously & unsystematically opened thread after thread after thread after....

Unfortunately, a side-effect of our pro-derail policy is we can never find things. Kind of like my cupboards & closets. Reason why I do not use drawers. Open topped & see-through containers make for easier discovery.

Yes, the search worked before; thereby rendering our thread derails immaterial. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Steerpike, you'll notice that error message specifically calls out your name, thus it becomes the Steerpike Singularity. (thx Scout!) [Image Can Not Be Found]

*edit: took me a minute to make the connection to Yap's first sentence meaning. Damn, I need a vacation!

I can't remember if there were multiple Kindle or Kindle-mentioned threads, but here's one of them:

../reach-out-and-touchipod-touch-that-is/

Had to find it the old fashioned way - reading each post that looked likely.

I think I'll blame the broken search feature on Gregg B.  I think that after he created the new TR logo he was so pleased with himself that we went and created a black hole at the center of the TR/FFC galaxy.  That's where the search feature went.  I think that the second "G" in Gregg's name stands for gravity.

Spike-girl, your linkage is broken. But I did get enough of the title of the link to know which thread you were talking about. Thanks!

*edit: and always blame the broken stuff on the new people

*Edit*  I tried the new link and it works.

Should have done it the right way the first time.  Anyone interested will probably have to copy/paste the link in their browser.  The thread was started on April 28, 2009.

Last October I bought the 3rd gen Touch – 64GB, that wonderful volume & pause toggle on the earbud cable.  Love it.  Much "funner" than my 1st gen.  Still don't want to read books on it, but I'm drooling over the iPad.  All that iPhone/Touch multifunctioning, and a larger format that will be much better for reading at length.  I think I'll have to wait for the 2nd gen, though.  The budget just won't allow me to be a 1st adopter this time.  And maybe waiting until they shake the bugs out is a good idea.  Still not interested in a one-trick-pony, and that is what the Kindle seems like to me.  Then again, not everyone wants all those functions.  Some say potato….

I have $$ winging its way to me and it's my birthday this month... so, I'm trying to decide which I want more: PS3 or Kindle.

I'm kinda leaning towards the PS3 as it does "everything" according to its marketing dept. [Image Can Not Be Found] Okay, it does two things that I would like: games and blu-ray. Kindle would be nice, but my phone functions as a smaller Kindle wannabe so I'm thinking I really don't need a dedicated Kindle.

Discuss!

The decision would be an easy one for me----a PS3 [Image Can Not Be Found]. I have to have one for the new ICO-like game plus Uncharted 2 is sounding good. I'm sure there will be others. I will be waiting for the release of my most wanted game, but I will be getting one. Being able to use it as a Blu-Ray player makes it even more desirable.

I almost got an Xbox 360 last time I had discretionary $$$, but it doesn't play Blu-Ray and I needed (well, needed is perhaps a tad strong a word, but you know how it is) a Blu-Ray player that would download from Netflix. So then I almost got a PS3, which plays Blu-Ray but won't download from Netflix. (Or vice versa.) So I ended up spending half the money on a dedicated Blu-Ray player that downloads from Netflix. I don't really game that much anymore anyway, and when I do, it's on my Iphone, DS, or pute. About in that order.

If my PS3 was a girl I would marry it. Or at least ask it out. If my 360 was a girl I'd ask it to wax, then leave my home.

Toger, Kindle-app-via-iP(x) may sound not so great, but I really enjoy Kindle on my iPhone. The screen is crisp and clear, easy to read; the page swooshing is thumb-simple. I know the screen seems small, but once I actually read something on it, SIZE DIDN'T MATTER. It worked great.

With the PS3 you get Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, and Uncharted. As awesome as the Kindle is, it's free as an app on iP(whatever).

From a nepotism standpoint, all of my brother's novels are Kindle-available. BUT you can get them on your iP(x) and still enjoy Demon's Souls!

Boooo Kindle!

Hey Jen: If I'm not mistaken the PS3 does stream from Netflix now. The Wii is supposed to get it, too. (if it's not already available)

I have been using my iPhone w/Kindle app and it's very nice. It was one of the first apps I picked up. I especially like the preview feature so I'm not dropping coinage based on the paragraph on the back of the book. Can you believe it, some of those lie! [Image Can Not Be Found]

I checked out some video of Valkyria Chronicles and I might like that, especially since combat is turn-based. And I love me some cel-shaded graphics. I do so want Last Guardian, but I haven't heard anything lately and that concerns (annoys) me; however, GameSpot tweeted about a Last Guardian-like game coming this summer: Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom that looks interesting.

You guys just affirmed my pretty-much-already-made decision. I will soon be a PS3 owner. Thanx!

I put the Netflix-enabled Blu-Ray player in my bedroom. When Wii gets Netflix (which reminds me, I should check because it might be ready now), I will be able to watch Netflix downloads in my living room as well. Because I already have a Wii. How sad is that, no PS3, no XBox 360, yes Wii. I guess that makes me a (*gasp*) mom. What's worse: I play Wii Sports and Wii Fit on it.

Well, it appears to be a moot point at the moment: PS3s are sold out everywhere, including Amazon. Should have pulled the trigger this morning. Amazon does have them available from their marketplace sellers, but the prices are stupid inflated. Guess I'll have to wait, but I can still stockpile games. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I was checking Amazon today as well and was wondering where the $299 PS3 we were discussing a while ago went. Is there really a shortage? Glad I'm not in a rush to buy.
