Grazie, grazie!
My plan is to tweet/facebook at least one photo per day (international roaming è molto costoso). The rest of the pix will have to wait until I'm back and can dump them to my photobucket account.
Hey! Which came first – the FFC/TAP Silo or Facebook? You know where that one-photo-a-day should REALLY be posted.
Plus, you should find some free wi-fi somewhere, hotel maybe, so 2 photos a day might not be impossible or expensive. Come on, we're gonna live vicariously here.

Spike: No fair pulling rank! I'm making no promises about pix here as I'm not sure about getting to an internet cafe and I've not been able to post from my phone. Steerpike needs to fix that. (Then maybe I'll entertain the thought of going to Svalbard. That doesn't mean I'm going, but I'll entertain the thought... with tea & cookies.)

I'm taking my phone, kindle, DS and camera. Only the camera has actual backup rechargeable batteries. The kindle was just charged so it will last the entire month. Both phone and DS require AC, so I'm taking their chargers. If either of them blow up, I'm SOL regardless of whether or not I'm in the US or Europe. I like to live dangerously. I'm trying to decide if I should get my life-time supply of radiation by going through the reveal-o-matic or submit to the more intimate "I'm a sexual predator masquerading as airport security" pat-down.
A tough choice, it really is. Makes ya wanna kick someone or something - one kind of peeping-tom or another. But don't do that. You'd find yourself spending the next bit of time in Sing-Sing and not Siena-Siena.
Have a great time. I bet Tap-Repeatedly loves gelato. So you get to have 2-3 servings of it for each of us here. Like I said, we are going to be living vicariously. Our Gelato Hero.
Tangent/hijack of the day: I know that TR "...wishes its cat would stop vomiting on the carpet." I've got one better, or worse. My 14 year old cat just vomited a bunch on my sofa. Slipcover. Loose pillows with their own covers. 4 hours of vacuuming and laundry and ironing because the old gal couldn't get down fast enough. What a day.

I'll be thinking of you tonight from 6 pm --> 1 am PST as you pack & unpack & repack. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Remember: 50 lbs. And if you are just under, unless you consume a whole lotta fish oil tabs, you won't have spare lbs. for purchases. Less & Light. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Am I to assume we-all can follow daily reports on your Facebook page? (not that I know who you are there)
Have Bundles of Fun! And lots of funny stories to amuse us upon your return.
Sorta, kinda finished packing... except the stuff that I'll use in the morning (at which point, I'll spend the "down time" waiting on the shuttle packing/repacking [Image Can Not Be Found]) and my bag weighs in at a mere 36.5 pounds! Woo-hoo, 3.5 pounds under my target of 40! I've left no child behind... well, there is that pair o' jeans sitting alone & bereft on the bed but I *think* I'm wearing those (or another pair) for the SFO -> JFK leg.
Compression is an amazing feature.
Yes, you can follow my adventures on Facebook, if you're so inclined. I'll PM the info.

I'm back! Sort of. Posting from the Hilton in NYC. We fly home tomorrow morning at the freakin' butt-crack o' dawn.
Sorry for the lack of updates. We discovered that wi-fi in Italy came at a premium: first hotel in Montecatini Terme was 2 Euros for an hour (pretty good, but you had to use the hour all at one time, no logging off then back on); the hotel in Florence allowed you to use the hour whenever but it was 10 Euros for an hour. The hotel in Rome gave us 15 minutes for free. You could use the computer in their conference center but the price was outrageous and you had to find someone to open the room. And then there's the issue of Tap not allowing me to post from my phone. (fix that will ya?)
JB brought his laptop but his voltage convertor was for a two-prong plug and the power brick needed 3 prongs. He found one in Florence then promptly tripped the breakers in their hotel room and discovered that the convertor didn't work anyway. Returned and replaced it with another one which worked for two hours then burned itself out. Our conclusion was that the laptop was drawing more power than all of Italy is wired for. When we got to Rome, we found that the bathroom had an American 120v plug for electric shavers but refused to power up the laptop. We gave up using the laptop about that time and just updated Facebook and/or Twitter.
Tuscany was gorgeous! I've seen more art in the last 8 days than I have in all the years I've lived in SF. The David was simply incredible. I wish we'd had more time in the Uffizi in Florence - hell, I wish we'd spent more *shopping* time in Florence! Bought buttery soft leather handbags (2) and gloves, Murano glass earrings, 3 wool/cashmere Pashminas and assorted candies. Took the catamaran to Capri and tried every lemon product they produce (including limoncello). We ate gelato everyday (sometimes several times a day). Each morning began with a fantastico capuccino. I can't go back to American capuccinos as they're just not the same. How will I start the day?! How will I even contemplate American pizza unless I make my own?!
Once I get home, I'll upload my pix and post a linky. Now I gotta stay up to stave off jet lag.

So glad you had a great time, followed your itinerary via tweet-pics every day.
Yeah, electronics can be...difficult. In high school my family stopped in Florence on our way to relocation in Lebanon. I plugged in my hair dryer and blew out (blackened) the entire hotel. Since that day I am very careful about watts & volts & the capacity of converters (thank heavens, nowadays many electronics are dual voltage). Not to mention the inscrutability of plug pokes, sometimes more than one kind across a single country.
Agreed, internet in hotels can be brutally expensive. I usually go where students go, often a tiny store front just wide enough for a row of tables holding outdated computers running windows but not in English.
I'm not a betting person but I'll bet you guys are already talking about where to take your next trip. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Svalbard.
Welcome home (almost) Toger! It sounds like the trip couldn't have gone better. With a travel expert like Yapette to help out with planning the things you might not otherwise plan for, life must be easier. Now get home and get some sleep and consider the fact that you can blandly say, "Yeah, I picked it up last time I was in Italy" when someone compliments your handbag. 🙂
Also: I am in Pittsburgh right now and there is an oriental massage place just across from my hotel (which is otherwise really nice). It's called "Oh Happy Asian Massage."
I admit, I'm curious. Carnegie Mellon would probably refuse to cover it, but hey, that's what cash is for.
There are exotic adventures to be found close to home and far from it!
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
