I don't know if this deserves its own topic but if you're one of the 8 people who hasn't played Portal you now have absolutely no excuse: it is free on Steam, for both Mac and PC.

Here I am…one of the eight!
Not only can I not jump (effectively; I can jump) but my sense of where* will crack & drain out my ears in Portal. Or so I'm guessing.
That said, free is free.
I'll try. [Image Can Not Be Found]
* "Where" being that which-end-is-upness needed to prevent becoming utterly disorientated and/or throwing up. Which is why I love maps. In 2D.
P.S. Edit: forgot to say, Thanks!
P.P.S. Edit: Did Planescape ever arrive? Canada--->Houston takes 7 days or less. Houston--->Canada can take forever.

I finally created a Steam account today because of their new Mac client. Eventhough I can be either a Mac or a PC, I prefer Mac and am glad that more games for it will now be available. I had no problem creating my account or installing and running the client, but when I clicked on that big red button to get Portal I got a blank screen. Tried a few times more and gave up to go eat dinner. I'll fuss with it some more tomorrow. Looking forward to Wednesday as Mac new-release day on Steam. This could be fun.
Aside: How cool that the Humble Indie Bundle pulled in almost $1.2 million. Only a bit over 30% of that went to the charities, even worthwhile as they are. I think that just goes to show that many of us love our Indie developers and love to support them so that they keep making more games for us.

Spike, Steam is usually very reliable, but as you can imagine they have all kinds of problems on the day of a big release. I bet if you try again today it will be fine. Good luck!
Yap: I hope you enjoy Portal and don't hurl. Your sense of humor will definitely dig that game.

Early this morning I read that Steam was, indeed, overwhelmed yesterday. So I downloaded Portal today with nary a problem.
I, too, am one of The 8, and with a game backlog (7 or so that I am still looking forward to playing, but after Fallout 3 there is a huge pile of "I think I will now find this one boring"), I will continue to be one of the 8 for a bit longer, but really looking forward to Portal, and also more Mac games. I lift a glass to Steam. [Image Can Not Be Found]

You're right, Gregg. They're the lucky ones. For Toger and Yap and Spike, this will be the first time they play Portal.
...of course, on the other hand, they've had to live the past three years in a world without Portal.
Oh, to go back… I remember the evening well. I played a bit of Episode 2 out of a sense of responsibility, but stopped quickly and went to Portal. About three hours of unadulterated bliss later, I was in the last test chamber. I looked up and realized I'd forgotten to turn the lights on. It was very dark in the house.
Savor it! Savor every moment for there will never be another first time!

Holy Crap!!! I'm one of the 8 also! That means fully half of the 8 people who have yet to play Portal are common posters on this wonderful website. [Image Can Not Be Found] Wowzers...
I always meant to buy the Half Life 2 Orange Box, as I wanted to play through Half Life 2 plus expansions also of course in addition to Portal. But for the cost of free ...... I'm game to try out Portal now. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I guess I have to stand up and say I haven't finished Portal. In fact I'm not even sure I like it. For some reason I have a hard time getting into it. Even my nephew was shocked and made me watch him play half the game in about an hour. It looked like fun but something about it doesn't click for me.

Last night I got up to holding my Holey* Weapon then.....wtf? Is that me or someone else ahead & behind? WTF is next? I need my rails a tad more defined, at least at the wtf-beginning.
Putting me one foot in Scout's camp. 'Cept he loved Chewy: ESC from F5 & I couldn't stand it. So there's no pattern or consistency.
