There are folks saying that the iPad will lead to an explosion in adventure gaming. Others aren't so sure. Thoughts?

I'm thinking huge iTouch right now, simply because I don't feel its as innovative as some of Apple's other recent products. The price seems reasonable, but it's more expensive than a netbook and thus doesn't seem suitable for a living room laptop.

The iPhone/Touch have really done something to revivify the adventure genre, as touchscreens are natural environments for point and click. But this thing just doesn't seem to have the same panache.

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

Unless some cool feature show up down the line, I'm going with huge iTouch for the nonce.

I had a go on my brother's iPhone recently when he was playing Beneath a Steel Sky and the controls seemed very strange simply because there's no pointer to hover over things so you find yourself tapping all over the screen. Pixel hunting (thank god) is virtually impossible. Also the touch screen is optimised for your finger which, unless you're strange, is attached to your hand and that tends to get in the way of the small screen. We tried my DS stylus but that didn't work at all.

Looking at the size of this iPad makes me think that it could be ideal for adventure games but unless it's seriously successful then I can't see them making that much of a splash. You never know though, people like these shiny new multifunctional devices and this could become some sort of casual 'around the house' sort of device rather than a sit down computer or a phone.

It's the splashier version of the iPod... basically it's the iPhone without the phone part.
