When URU came out I just had Macs, and URU was PC.  A couple of years later I had a PC that played many games quite well despite its underpowered graphics card.  But I bought URU Complete Chronicles.  No matter what I did, the game crashed or froze within the first 10 minutes of play.  By the time I had a PC capable of playing URU I had pretty much lost interest in it.  I'd finished the 1-5 Myst saga and moved on to other things.

Steam is offering the Chronicles.  Still only for PC, but who cares?  I'm not sure I really want it, but some part of me says that it's a piece of Myst lore, and I loved the Myst worlds so much at the time.  I read Jen's review.  Wondering what others remember about their time playing URU - that is if they did play URU.

Even now, when I hear that Myst "ohm" sound, I get goosebumps.  But maybe the time for Myst has passed.

Uru = [Image Can Not Be Found]

In my experience attempting to play was clunky, ugly, limited, dumb. Oh, and boring. I tried online & off.

I too get chills hearing Myst's baaaroooomp music but Uru in no way felt even vaguely related to Myst of old. At least for me.

I still keep the discs just in case someday, post-brain wipe, I decide to try again. Never say never. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I really liked Uru. It is quite a departure from the regular Mysts, though, so adjust your expectations if you're going to give it a whirl.

Jen, did we play the same game? [Image Can Not Be Found]

With two impressions like that, how can you not try Uru?

Aw, hell.  For less than $10 I think I'll try it.  Who knows, you might both be right. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I don't know if we played the same game or not, but I do agree with you that the online portion was clunky and dumb. I thought the SP game had some really good puzzles, though. Not that I can remember any now...
