Played a bit up to the first level up. It feels quite different from previous Gothic games.

I played up to the first level up as well, Pokey.

I'm bummed they dropped the Nameless one for a whiny kid with a pre-balding frontal hair lid and a mom. And a girfriend. Wow…does he work part time at Office Depot too?  I liked Diego. I found the voice acting sort of disturbing and the whole thing just too colorful for a Gothic. I guess there is a European color scheme vs US color scheme button. Will look at this when I go to finish the demo today.

This is a big U-turn from the whole Gothic brooding atmosphere, uprooted protagonists thing they had going for them. Ouch. I'm smelling bargain bin buy.

Hopefully I'm wrong and this will pan out to be a decent game but right now I'm thinking bleak thoughts.

My impression was this must be a Loot Demo. By the end I was buried in stuff. Arrows & bolts with amazing abilities, multitude of scrolls & spells, weapons of every variety and more buffs & heals than I could use in two lifetimes. But not a single merchant to be found.

I didn't mind the non-gritty world - in fact when the graphics were at their most detailed, I was amazed. Problem (I had) is they didn't stay that way but seemed to deteriorate over time into more mushy & less crisp.

I was bored silly in the long dungeon to the point of needing to take a break before reaching the end.

That said, I'll buy it if only for graphics.  And the loot. If I can use a weapon that glows with fire and cast spells strong enough to fry, I'm in.

I'm a bit pessimistic about the game. So many cut scenes and all the dialogue. I just wanted to explore, but spent most of the time talking. Risen was more of a Gothic game than this is. I'm not getting the Gothic feeling from this so far, but will finish the demo and likely buy the game when released.

Suspect I'm near the end of the demo. It controls reasonably (mostly, archery clearly wants me to pick up the XBOX 360 controller vibrating in the empty Kleenex box that is its home), so I may actually play it. Fantasy peanutbrittle story but I never got over wanting to beat the creators of 2 to death with my mouse so I can only say it doesn't feel like a Gothic game because a domesticated animal didn't instagib my character.

It looks alternatively great and.... OK, when did new games start insisting on this crisp foreground/heavily processed blurry background thing? Metro, same. Companies finally have the tools and players have the hardware to render everything and the go-to idea is making conversations look like they're happening on greenscreens? [Image Can Not Be Found]

PS If you're cold on the demo already, quit while you're ahead. I happily deal with voice work that sends most fleeing but the witch's dialog and (English) performance is a barrel full of staples shoved over Niagra. Every cackle a prick and so, so many of them.
