Am I crazy or has it been a while since we've seen Helmut? He may be my arch-foe, but I do love the guy. Helmut, is all well?

I hope the big, bad wolf didn't blow down his house of straw.

He's waiting for a snowplow to clear a path to the house, and for the utilities to be restored.

Okay, I'm still worried. Spike, is this an official State Of The Helmut?

Everything's good. Had a couple weeks off to prep the house for arrival. In a bit of a dark place, having spent a month in a 300sq ft. hotel room with 2 children under the incredible 24 hour stomping lady. WTF do you need at 3:00am that you couldn't have fetched at 2:00 am  or 2:24 am or 2:38am?

And we have moved into this new house and it's unsettling for all. But I found the box containing my steering wheel that's been packed since last April. That's something isn't it? Am I still on staff here? Did we get a tv or fridge or anything for the tunnels yet?

It's always incredible to me that a lot of people staying in hotel rooms have no concept of the fact that their elephantine footsteps may affect people below them. Last hotel I stayed in, the people above me stomped about early in the morning while kids ran up and down the all outside my door yelling "Let's go skiing!" at seven o'freakin' clock in the morning.

Glad to hear you're finally ensconced in your house of straw, Helmut!

I didn't catch this the other day Steerpike.  My pov is that we are all family here.  We may not always love each other [Image Can Not Be Found], but we will always look out for each other.  Especially those who live in the frigid North where communication can get dicey at times.

Did we get a tv or fridge or anything for the tunnels yet?

Soooooooooo glad you're back Helmut.  We missed you.  Next month we will consider the TV.  This month the debate is about the acquisition of a PS3.  As for the fridge, we just put the potables outside the door.  That should keep them cold until at least June.

Edit:  Congratulations on the move-in.  It will get easier, especially if you've already found the bottle opener and corkscrew!

We've had to pack those away again already [Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found]

When you find the camera send over some pics of the (almost?) completed house.  If you sited the house correctly it will probably conceal one of the silo entrances from the rabble quite nicely.  Or does your house hide a portal to....

Steerpike told me you'd been building a house of straw and I meant to ask about it. So, what is this house of straw? Straw?!

Me and my girlfriend have been refurbishing a house for the last 7 months while living at my parents. We think the place was formerly a den for disgusting man-beasts and other abyssal creatures because it was in dire need of well, everything. We've stripped the wall paper and replastered throughout, had new radiators, new electrics, new interior doors, new skirting boards and architraves, new kitchen, new bathroom, new floor tiling, some new windows and exterior doors. It's been a massive undertaking for two first time buyers and DIY noobs but it's been a great learning curve. I can only imagine what building a house is like...

Helmut's House of Straw progress can be found here. I think the original pics with the bales of hay were lost in the FFC pogrom or I didn't dig deep enough.

Perhaps so, at least when you have toddler minions at your disposal.
