The blue melty ones or the blue electrical ones? Both throw artifacts, but in the original STALKER if an artifact's not lying there on the ground, you don't have to worry about it. Only in later STALKERS is it necessary to prod anomalies to get them to throw their loot.
You're amazingly fortunate, Spike, or you have nerves of steel. The Lumpen One is a Controller, one of the scariest and most disorienting foes in the game. You only ever encounter... three? Four? Not many. I wonder if it let you be because your gun was holstered. In any case, given your ammunition problem, I'd avoid engaging it if I were you.

@ Steerpike… I go back into that tunnel again to retrieve Strelok's weapons stash which I couldn't carry before. I'll also go up the ladder in daylight to get the lay-of-the-land and see just where I need to go from there. Then I'll go back at night to progress. If the Controller again leaves me alone with gun holstered, I'll know that that is a possible way to deal with them in the future. Or maybe this first one was just old and tired. I meant the blue melty ones. There were quite a few of them in the tunnels, but none appeared to contain artifacts.

Spike: My problems were really with the last 3 or 4 hours of the main story missions. I don't know if I got the same bug as Scout where I was constantly in danger of dying from too much radiation, despite going through a lifetime supply of rad drugs. This coupled with the whole thing being a non-stop firefight, and finally culminating in an unbeatable game was pretty upsetting. I really liked everything up til that though. The game world and atmosphere are great, it's just some of the less than friendly user elements.
Armand, it sounds familiar…[Image Can Not Be Found] I definitely had some kind of glitch. On top of the ever-dying Marked One I was getting X-Ray Engine errors on game launch. More and more I had to reboot until last night it refused to launch period. Googling indicated it's a wide spread problem. This morning I had to uninstall everything and reinstall. Had a scare when I accidentally deleted all my saves as well. Luckily my system wisely backed itself up last night so I was able to restore the saved games files.[Image Can Not Be Found]
This is twice now I've almost lost this game to a meltdown. I do think it's sort of cursed.

I've been playing New Vegas to help recover from the trauma of this game, and man if it doesn't feel like an even better game than the first round of playing it! I can thank STALKER for giving me a new appreciation for it! 😉
I understand that feeling. I am not totally back to this game. But whenever I try, I feel this game is beyond me or where I want to try to go. And New Vegas sounds like a nice place to go to recover. We shall see what I decide to do. Kay
Imagine life with no hypothetical situations.
Whew! Relief! Got through Agroprom, got the briefcase, and hightailed it to the Bar.
I think I was very lucky. This afternoon when I went back into the tunnels to retrieve Strelok's stash I got the stash then fast-traveled to the Military Entrance. That took me to the end of the tunnels where the Controller is. This time he killed me. My gun was no match. Reloaded a save, got grenades ready, and took him out with 2 of them. First sorta lucky break.
Tonight I fast traveled from the beginning of the tunnels to the Military Entrance, but instead of dumping me in the tunnel with the Controller, I exited outside. About 11:30PM. Not as dead-dark as it was last night because there was moonlight. Big gun in hand, I low-crouched my way from cover to cover. I could tell which building I need to enter because of its size and proportions. Up. Up. Only 2 soldiers in the hallway. 1 grenade. Job done. Got the goods and zoomed out of there. My second lucky break was getting in and out before encountering more than 2 soldiers.
Got to the Bar. Got rewarded and accepted a couple more jobs from Barkeep, and one more from one of the patrons – Family something. Since I had stuff to trade, and lots of rubles, I tried to trade with every person I met. Some had the ammo I wanted, so I am flush for the moment. I'm not certain of this, but I think the bar patrons had better prices on a couple of the things I bought than Barkeep. I'll have to recheck that.
Got 2 nifty Stalker Suits in 100% condition. I hope to move up to better garments soon.
By the way…my Military guys, both at the railway crossing, and in the tunnels, respawned. I'm guessing that those at the post on the road south of Cordon will have respawned too, but I'm not gonna go look. I got what I needed at the time from them, and now I have other options.
Bedtime for this tired Stalker.

Nice work, Spike! For what it's worth, you've crossed the threshold. At this point you can/should linger and do quests, have adventures, and not worry about ammunition. It shouldn't be a problem ever again. Your next key job is to get a scope for your favorite rifle!
I'm sure you're doing this already, but given that endless-radiation bug Armand and Scout encountered (I'd never heard of it, but STALKER's buggy enough that I totally believe them), you should keep an assortment of saves in case you need to go back a ways.
One thing about radiation is that most artifacts give it off - your armor will protect you from some, but mostly armor is for environmental radiation. Radioactive artifacts should be countered with other artifacts that eliminate radiation. Urchin is a good example - I believe it's -30 radiation, which works all the time, so you can have up to +30 radioactive artifacts equipped, and it will also quickly reduce your radiation level in hot areas. Of course, artifacts always take away something of equal or greater value to what they give. With Urchin you bleed like a stuck pig.
I guess those military guys do respawn after 24 game hours. But you probably won't be going back to the Cordon much, so it's not a big deal.
Congratulations on defeating Agroprom!
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
@Steerpike...In the first couple of days of playing I thought that the +/- numbers given for the artifacts meant percentage. I put one on my belt and couldn't figure out why I was quickly dying. Now I only use them for trade. Sid often has a job that requires one of the artifacts. If he will buy my artifact for 1650 RU, for example, my reward for turning the same one in for a job will be about 2000 RU, plus I get vodka or something else to boot. So I'm saving some artifacts for him, and trading the rest. There are SO many artifacts to be found around Agroprom. It's worth going back for them from time to time.
But I haven't found the Urchin one yet.

Kay, the fast travel is ESC-something - you'll see it in the main title screen, at the bottom. As for repairs, I think the first person who can do it is the Bartender in Rostok. You can't access that area until you complete the Agroprom mission. However, there are one-use repair kits to find - be sure to read the instructions carefully, since they were kind of hacked in.
Spike: cash is nice, but you'll come upon a time when you'll almost certainly need artifacts. They can give huge increases to health, reduce the fatigue from running while overburdened, protect you from this or that... I recommend hanging on to one sample of each, just so you can mix and match when you like. There's a handy box in the bar at Rostok that you can store your goodies in. They'll be safe there, and it's a convenient central point.

Kay: press "esc", then when you are at the load/quit/save page press
the "J" key. You will get fast travel options. This isn't like
Fallout where it is easy to fast travl over long distances. You have to
fast travel in stages. For example: if you are in Cordon and want to
travel to Garbage, you hit "esc" + "J", and end up at Garbage. But if
you want to travel from Cordon to Agroprom you would have to "esc" + "J"
to get to Garbage, then "esc" + "J" again to get the Agroprom option. I
think the choice to go "long distance" is available for some locations.
Within an area, such as Agroprom, you will have a couple of options as
you will find out. It's better fast travel than no fast travel at all.
Only problem is that at each stage of traveling you have to wait for
the game to load that new area, and this game, with the Complete mod, is
awfully slow to load.
When I start the game for the first time in
the day it takes 1 min. 40 sec. for the game to load. Loading a save
is shorter, as is using "Quit Game" instead of "Exit to Windows". If
you need to take a break from the game for a bit, just quit game and the
loading time is much shorter when you continue your game after your
break.
Steerpike is correct. The repair kits are one use only.
The only 2 I've had were looted from dead bodies. I guess there are
more of them out there, I just haven't found them. Now that I have
accessed the Bar I can use the bartender for repairs. I bet he charges
mucho dinero for those repairs. I think that I'd rather count on
finding more of what I need and not having to pay for repairs.
"…you just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake."
For repairs you can also go to the Freedom camp in the Army Warehouse area, adjacent to the Bar area. A guy called Screw will also repair armor and weapons and he is a little cheaper than the Barkeep or Skinflint (also at the Freedom camp).
Bring Screw a vodka and he'll give you a scope and good deals for repairs.
I'm finally back in the bowels of Lab x18. This is my third run at it because of bugs. I almost have the map memorized at this point. I think I have some sort of hardware incompatibility creeping in via the Complete mod.
Armand and Scout have had huge bugs and I feel sorry for them. I don't think I'd be willing to try to continue playing if I had to jump through so many hoops to do so.
But I have run into a few small bugs. The latest was when I was completing a job for one of the patrons in the Bar. I also had a job for barkeep. Got to the location of the patron job, got the item I needed, got the Completed message for that mission on the screen. Got back to bar and looked at my PDA. It showed that I hadn't completed the mission that I had, and further, that I'd completed the item quest for barkeep, and had his item, which I didn't. The problem extended to my conversations with those guys. I guess those quests will remain in limbo.
Then there's the freezing on walking or running which isn't a big problem unless I'm running from a pack of dogs or bloodsuckers.
