What's special about this sequence of numbers.

0 1 10 1001 10010110

Many things but here it is played to give a hint to the big one:

Fear I've asked this before but it's so neat who cares. [Image Can Not Be Found]

A fine guess but no. The answer has nothing to do with music but if you listen carefully to the sequence turned into music.... Here's a cleaner example: http://reglos.de/musinum/midi/.....urundi.mid

Pi is an irrational number. This is an infinitely extensible sequence but not a number. Even stranger, in it's way.

It's the Thue-Morse sequence. Bad trivia question but super nifty oddity (see below). New question: why is the Sphinx missing its nose?

Many of the mathematical oddities of Thue-Morse are above my brain's pay grade but some are easily understood. One is that music made from it mimics things like traditional gamelon or Bach fugues but it never repeats exactly. It feels like there's a regular musical structure, albeit a complex one, but it never resolves. I find it quite eerie, always on the edge of digestion.

Also, it's very easy to generate: 0 becomes 01, 1 becomes 10 on each step. In base ten 0, 1, 6, 105, 27030, 1771476585 and so on. Any part can be pulled out to reproduce the whole sequence.

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/T......html The image there looks at first glance like a simple repeating tile pattern but if you move through it carefully it's anything but. A different graphical representation mimics a mix of tall trees and saplings.

Numbers are sneaky. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Fell off when they tried to clean it up?

It didn't fall off. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I'd always assumed weather sand blasting the protruding member but it was the work of humans.

They weren't cleaning it.

For some reason I want to say it had something to do with Akhenaten... the religious reforms... trying to change the Sphinx's face to his... I could be completely off.

I have nothing to say except: stopping in after about a month away,  i am delighted to find you all are discussing why the sphinx lost it's nose.   Or maybe you are actually discussing something even more esoteric and that would even be better.

Wasn't it shot off by a cannon? By some European cannon shooters.

It was vandalism but Scout got it first. Jarrod was close enough but Scout takes the prize.

Soldiers in Napolean's army blew it off with a cannon because they had nothing better to do.

Take it away Scout, and backatcha Jen. [Image Can Not Be Found]

This is why, when we finally get our missile silo, the launch codes will only be released to a select few members of the community, no matter how long they've been around or how nicely they ask. I can't have someone launching one of the Tap-Repeatedly missiles some Tuesday afternoon just because they're bored.
